5 Times North West Slayed a Tutu

5 Times North West Has Slayed the Tutu

It is never too early to begin your journey on the road to fashion epicness. As proven by Kanye West’s cutie pie daughter, North West. This week a video of North went viral as she walked along in a parking lot passing by paparazzi uttering, “I said no pictures.”

North may not have wanted the attention but it was hard not to look due to her super stylish ensemble. North is enrolled in dance class that may also lend to her fabulous tutu outfits. However, West has been seen rocking the tutu sometimes accompanied by designer jackets by brands such as Balmain even outside of class. Therefore, it is safe to say that little North enjoys the look and she should because she looks absolutely adorable. For this reason, we present 5 times North West has slayed the tutu.

Rihanna Showcases The New PUMA Eskiva5

Looking to take your shoe game to a whole other level? Then, it is time to look to the badgal herself for the pair of sporty sneaks that you are going to want to cop before the holiday rush. Rihanna can be seen flying high in PUMA’s latest release, the PUMA Eskiva.

Now we are only going to warn all the sneaker heads and kicks lovers out there once. If you want to get your hands on these bad boys you better put your bids in now. Remember Rihanna’s Creeper shoes sold out in just three hours! Of course, it is of note that the Eskiva is not a collaboration between Rihanna and the popular brand. Rihanna is a brand ambassador with creative director responsibilities, however, in this case Rihanna is just on modeling duty.

Nevertheless, everything that Rihanna seems to touch seems to sale. Therefore, do not sleep on the Eskivas or you may be watching your friends walking around in them instead.

Personally, we are fans of the Eskiva Hi design because of its more modern feel and look than the average sneaker. However, there is a Mid style for those who are feeling the Eskiva but prefer a more normal shoe height. Check out a few more photos below and be advised that the shoe is available for purchase.

#1 Mistake When Growing Black Hair With Wigs

#1 Mistake Growing Black Hair With a Wig

Arianne’s (right) hair growth after 7 months

For thousands of years women have sought to have hair that can be truly deemed as a “crown of glory.” Women have tried natural remedies and have even attempted more unconventional methods in order to lengthen their strands. For instance, in ancient Egypt the fat from hippos, snakes and crocs were applied to the scalp in hopes of encouraging hair growth. Cleopatra is also of said to have recommended an concoction of ground up mice, bear grease and horse teeth.

Now before you go laying mouse traps it should be noted that Cleopatra’s suggestion didn’t work so well and her lover Caesar turned to fashion to hide his receding hairline. You may recall this prominent figure wearing a hair wreath and now you know why.

This just goes to show that hair growth has been an important issue for centuries and women as well as men are willing to try anything to attain length. One method that is used frequently in more modern times is growing out hair by wearing a wig. I personally have used this method and with much success. My hair went from damaged and above my shoulders to healthy as well as to the middle of my back.

#1 Mistake Growing Black Hair With a Wig

My natural hair after I stopped wearing wigs

Growing hair by wearing a wig was successful for me because it allowed my hair to “breathe.” We do some much to our hair via heating tools, rollers, you name it that sometimes it can be beneficial to give your hair a little vacation from all of those contraptions. I have found that by wearing wigs especially if it matches my natural texture, I can reduce the amount of heat used on my hair and encourage it to grow faster. In my experience I have found that the more I just leave my hair alone the more growth I achieve. Therefore, it is no wonder why women have flocked to get braids or sew-ins to grow their hair. Such styles allow locks to grow in a controlled and protected atmosphere.

However, there is one mistake that can completely blow the wig technique that will actually have you losing hair instead of growing it. I know because I made this same error and I would like to help you avoid it. Whatever you do at all cost, DO NOT FORGET to care for your hair underneath your wig.

Now I’m sure you are thinking but Arianne that’s it, that is so simple! Yes, it is but it is something that often goes to the wayside due to the ease and simplicity of wearing a wig. Wearing a wig will have your hair styled and ready to go in minutes or less with you out the door.

For example, for blending reasons I prefer to wear half wigs because I believe it gives you a more natural look since part of your own hair is visible. This also gives you more versatility to change up part position and your hairstyle in general. When I was wearing wigs I would part my hair leaving some out near my crown while pulling the rest back into a bun. I’d then slide on my wig and get on with my day. A process that took five minutes tops even on a bad day.

When I originally grew my hair out I was like a well-trained military general. I was militant about applying leave-in conditioner plus a hair oil every single day. Or I would wet my hair to add moisture then apply my Mane N’ Tail conditioner to keep my strands well-nourished. I would do deep conditioning treatments as well as hot oil treatments and scalp massage. The result? My hair grew several inches in mere months.

The problems came when after I achieved my desired length I became quite laxed in my hair routine. I wasn’t so consistent and eventually my lack of care began to show. I lost literally palmful chunks of my hair and I also experienced my fair share of shedding. My tresses also became dull in appearance with the development of split ends.

Therefore, what is the hair lesson to take away from my hair growth experience? Whether you are wearing extensions or wigs always continue to give proper care to your own natural hair. Moreover, once you achieve your desired length continue to keep up the good hair practices that got you there. As I have learned the hard way, hair journeys are never ending and if you deviate off the right path you  can suffer some bad consequences. So then, stay focused because your hair will either reward you or punish you for the way you treat it.

Supermodel Sharim Diniz Attends Balmain for H&M Fashion Show

Supermodel Sharim Diniz Attends Balmain for H&M Fashion Show

23 Wall St. of New York City was the biggest style party of night thanks to the arrival of Oliver Rousteing’s Balmain army. Some of the biggest names in the modeling world came out to stomp the runway in the Balmain for H&M collection show highlighting designer fashions that are more “affordable” for the average fashionista. What exactly does affordable mean in relation to the BalmainxHM collection?

Keeping it totally 100, the high-end collaboration contains designs well over the $500 mark, however, do not despair if your dream is to own a Balmain creation even if the wallet isn’t as fat right now. Every last piece of collection will be available for sale beginning on November 5th and will include several pieces under $100! So then, even though this dreamy match up between Balmain and H&M is not the cheapest collab we have seen from H&M there are still plenty of styles available that will not completely break the bank.

Nevertheless, besides world renown beauties strutting their stuff down the catwalk there were plenty of stunners sitting right in the audience partaking of the show. One being the drop dead, I Wanna Hate On You But I Love Your Style SoFreakin’ Much, Sharim Diniz. Sharim looked too beautiful for words in a yellow Balmain dress as she supported her dear friend Oliver. Diniz took to social media during show stating,

“Supporting my favorite designer from all times Oliver Rousteing…”

“THE BEST SHOW EVER <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 CONGRATS OLI!”

Her sentiments rang true right along with several other celebs who felt the show was very successful as well. The only part of the night that broke our hearts is seeing The Backstreet Boys being inducted into the Balmain squad. Nothing against the boys, it’s just that we are NSYNC fans (LOL), but in the spirit of fashion we are willing to let it go.

VIDEO: See BTS Footage of Serena William’s Harper’s Bazaar November 2015 Shoot!

VIDEO See BTS Footage of Serena William's Harper's Bazaar November 2015 Shoot

She won’t stop, can’t stop and we absolutely love it all! Serena Williams has conquered the court, the catwalk (as a model and designer) and has even blown away the masses as a major magazine cover girl. Williams has been on numerous covers this year including Vogue back in April as well as when she dropped the proverbial model mic by doing the splits for New Yorker magazine (August 2015). Serena Williams has solidified herself as being a true queen inside and out!

We feel the need to quote Drake here for just a moment… clears throat… “You know it’s beauty when her smile is her best curve.” Serena truly does have one of the most beautiful smiles in the game, but we love her for ALL of her curves too! Besides, her stunning physique it is Serena’s personality and drive that also inspires and influences women the world over.

VIDEO See BTS Footage of Serena William's Harper's Bazaar November 2015 Shoot2

For their November issue Harper’s Bazaar is celebrating women who are not afraid to be daring. In a very honest interview Serena discusses how she feels confident in her profession because she has been at since the tender age of 3. Moreover, she goes on to say that she believes some people were born to do a certain thing and she has not missed her calling because she was born to be a tennis player. With 21 Grand Slam titles under her belt it is very hard to disagree with those statements. Nevertheless, Williams did admit to one fear in particular stating,

“Every time I go down a red carpet, I get a little nervous. I’ve done it 20,000 times, but you’d be surprised. I always have to take a deep breath before I go out there. Put on a brave, bold pose.”

We would have never even guessed that by the way Williams looks like so relaxed on the red carpet. However, goes to show that all of us are humans and deal with some sort of anxiety, but it is impossible to be strong enough to overcome them. Along those lines Serena mentioned what being daring means to her by saying,

“Daring to me is taking a chance but not doing it blindly. A very calculated chance. Think of amazing women like Sheryl Sandberg and Oprah Winfrey—they’re daring, but they’re not jumping off a building without a parachute, you know? You have to be smart about it. You can’t be afraid to be a pioneer and take a chance and speak up and just be bold.”

Amen to that Serena Williams and may we are continue to trek through life being daring and taking chances for the better. Want to see a Behind the Scenes look at Serena Williams Harper’s Bazaar photoshoot lensed by Douglas Friedman? Keep scrolling…

Fashion Notes: Yes, white after Labor Day is okay ladies. We just love Williams’ white Ralph Lauren jumpsuit paired with sandals by Christian Louboutin.

3 Most Important Tips to Applying Falsies

3 Most Important Tips to Applying Falsies

There is not one Instagram famous lady who doesn’t know her way around a tube a glue and a pair of falsies. False eyelashes have definitely come more in vogue due to the birth of the selfie, yet applying as well as getting them to stay in their lane can be a bit tricky. If you would rather avoid looking like a distant cousin of Cruella Deville, here are the 3 most important tips you should keep in mind when applying those falsies!

  1. The Right Fit- Like a pair of jeans if the fit isn’t right you are in for one uncomfortable ride. Always make sure before gluing that the lash strip fits your lash line. Everyone has different eye shapes and lashes right out of the packaging will not always be the correct length. Therefore, it is essential to trim lashes to ensure that the strip does not extend past the outer corners of the lash line.
  2. Wet is bad, Dry is Good- One of the main reasons that falsies come off is because they were applied to lids that were not clean surfaces. This means that concealer and shadow can not be in the way either. Such products can create a barrier between lash strips and the skin causing the adhesive to not work its magic thus making the strips lift. Always ensure that skin is completely dry or free of products that may get in the way of the glue being able to attach the lashes properly.
  3. Less is More- It may be tempting to use more adhesive thinking that more product will equal more strength and staying power, but do not be fooled. Your face is not a 3rd grade science project and all that excess adhesive will most likely look like one big excessive mess. Always dab on a thin layer of glue beginning with the inner corner that will rest the closest to your nose. If you tend to add too much glue when you are free-handing it with the tube of glue, try applying adhesive to the lash strip using a Q-tip. The cotton swab will help to prevent too much adhesive from being applied to the falsies.

Beauty and the Business 2015

Processed with Moldiv

We had an amazing day at this year’s Beauty and the Business event held in Los Angeles, California!

Attendees and guest speakers were not just from the west-side, but came from all over the U.S. ranging from Chi-town to Atlanta, Georgia. We were completely blown away by the transparency of the various panels and spotlighted entrepreneurs. They possessed a genuine positivity to help one and all achieve their ambitions of being a beauty (inside and out) and succeeding in the career path of their dreams.

One moment that we shall never forget is when a gentle soul by the name of Octavia approached the microphone during an Q&A session and revealed her struggle of doing all that she could in her power to put herself through Cosmetology school.

Octavia had put in so much work and effort to see her dream realized, but just could not seem to get over life’s hurdles. All that stood in her way was $700 in order to start her schooling. Octavia in tears poured out her heart and asked the panel what their advice would be for anyone trying to get ahead, trying to be like them, yet can not seem to get there no matter how hard they try.

At that very moment, something that we had NEVER seen before happened that would change this woman’s life forever.

Several business owners that were a part of the event began offering to pay for a portion of Octavia’s training. Within seconds $300 had been raised and by the end of the event Octavia had ALL $700 necessary to begin school!

Octavia’s journey resonated with so many in the audience that a huge portion of attendees were in tears and erupted in applause over Octavia’s prospects of achieving the education she so badly desired for so many years.

Beauty and the Business 2015-2

Octavia and Taryn Tarver

We were moved by Octavia’s story as well and approached her about staying in touch. Her determination and strength to get in front of a crowd of people and ask for help is truly inspiring. Therefore, we are happy to announce that we will be sharing Octavia’s journey through school as she keeps reaching for the stars.

It is our hope that her story will inspire you as well to never stop reaching higher because you CAN get to where you want to be if you stay grinding, strong and be fearless.

Expert panelists as well as speakers included Juntae DeLane, DeeDee Kelly, Chris Gees, Taryn Tarver, Gloria Williams, Malaika Paul, Monique Lauren Peters, Dr. Kari Williams, Rita Owens, Ardre Orie and D.L. Master Barber.

The event was hosted by the fabulous Melissa Hibbert who was also our May 2015 covergirl for our big beauty issue. Melissa’s as well as her well-chosen associates freely gave of their knowledge and strongly encouraged all to network.

Beauty and the Business 2015-3

Melissa Hibbert and Panel Number One

The overall theme and thrust of the event helped visitors to realize one thing… you are not going anywhere without hard work. Every happy ending on stage was the result of trials, tribulations, sweat, working for free, doing favors and believing in one self. Knowing one’s worth, value and talent was another important facet of making it big.

Many shared with the audience that they literally had little to no money when they started out, but they hung in there anyway. What helped make these experts so relentless in their quest for success? It is because they knew they possessed the talent to be someone and they were not going to let anything, not even negativity get in the way.

Isn’t it true that sometimes the biggest enemy or person in the way of our own dreams is ourselves?

We loved how each expert eloquently articulated that fears must be put away and one must look within and believe that they are worth the journey. So then, if any of you are working toward your own definition of success, we admonish you to not give up. You are close to the finish line and we are all waving you in for your trophy.

Missed Beauty and the Business 2015? Don’t forget to attend next year, but until then here is a quick video highlight of the event…
