Apple Before Bed-How to Win the Late Night Snack Battle and Sleep Better!

Apple Before Bed

An apple a day may keep the doctor away; however, have you ever thought about enjoying an apple before bed? Believe it or not, but this sweet little fruit could be the answer to a lot of your dietary prayers. How so?

Well, first of all, apples have a lot of health benefits to offer us. Benefits such as:

  • Improves hair growth
  • Boosts skin health
  • Helps in weight loss
  • Fights inflammation
  • Enhances cognitive performance
  • Reduces cholesterol
  • Prevents eye problems
  • Boosts overall immunity
  • Strengthens bone mass
  • Can help reduce/prevent diabetes, cancer, blood pressure, dementia, liver issues and protect against asthma
  • Enhance bowel bowel movements
  • Support urinary tract health

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg; in order to name a few things! However, research is constantly revealing more and more health benefits to eating an apple. Some are even viewing apples as a “fountain of youth” for both men and women.

However, the title of this article specifically mentioned two things: late night snacking, as well as being able to sleep better. Can apples really do the trick to help in such areas? Yes! Read on to learn exactly how!

So it’s 12 a.m. or later; and you are starving! Or, you’re trying to maintain a certain weight but you struggle with wanting to nosh on something, anything; even if you don’t exactly really need it. Don’t worry. You’re not alone.

Late night snacking is an issue many of us struggle with. The good news is that you can win the battle by reaching for the right snack. And apples fit the bill! Why?

Well, for one thing most snacks you might want or go for are probably loaded with a LOT of sugar or fat. Plus, you don’t want to have a whole entire meal so late because it can affect your sleep patterns and the extra calories could end up going straight to places you don’t want it too. Not good.

Nevertheless, Apples are the complete opposite side of the spectrum. They are healthy and nutritious for you. Therefore, by eating one of these instead of a big fat piece of pie, cheeseburgers, chicken, cookies or a bag of chips; you will save yourself from unnecessary weight gain.

Plus, when you look at what’s inside an apple it makes even more sense! You see, not only are apples a good source of fiber (something to help you feel fuller longer); apples are a great low GI snack. What’s so cool about low GI snacks?

Well, Low GI foods like apples may help regulate blood sugar levels, so that you don’t spike, causing you to feel SUPER hungry. Remember, the higher your blood sugar rises, the louder those cravings and hunger pangs might become. Which is why apples help save the day to help you not overeat.

Moreover, Low GI foods can do more… they can also help improve sleep quality. How do apples accomplish this feat? Simply put, there are specific components found in apples, including melatonin, potassium, and carbs, that may affect sleep quality.

Furthermore, apples are a good source of potassium as well as vitamin B6 which both aid in sleep. In addition, apples are also a great source of vitamin C with about 10 mg per large apple! Vitamin C helps you sleep better because it helps manage your blood sugar, lower blood pressure and even improve your breathing.

So what have we learned? Apples are good for you! Great when you’re hungry at night and if you’d love better sleep quality. Therefore, grab an apple and keep the doctor, extra weight and lack of Zzz’s far away!
