When she speaks, it’s always a mic drop. Princess Meghan was all smiles, looked stylishly gorgeous, as she discussed a plethora of topics with a distinguished panel of amazing women. Today, we’re briefly recapping Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex headlining SXSW Opening Day Panel with Katie Couric, Brooke Shields, Errin Haines and Nancy Wang Yuen. The conference celebrates the convergence of technology, film, television, and music. SXSW took place March 8-16, 2024 in Austin, Texas.

To kick off the festivities celebrating and empowering women of all backgrounds, creeds and ages. Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, as well as journalist Katie Couric, are introduced at the keynote “Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen” at SXSW at the Austin Convention Center.

Meghan got things going by helping all ladies to see their immense value; and the advantage of a good support system. That they matter and can achieve, as well as reach new heights despite challenges. The Duchess states,

“Your voice is not small, It just needs to be heard… Representation matters in terms of if you’re a young girl and you see yourself in a position of power or strength or leadership you can believe that is possible.

Whether you’re a 9 year old girl or a 90 year old woman you can absolutely continue to make the change that we all need.

Amongst the privileges I have in my life – I have an incredible partner. My husband is such a hands-on dad and such a supporter of me and our family and that I don’t take for granted. That is a real blessing.”

Furthermore, during the panel, Meghan also briefly touches on unkind bullying. She gives a quick glance and insight into her own experience with this growing issue. She reveals,

“The bulk of the bullying and the abuse that I was experiencing in social media and online was when I was pregnant, with Archie and with Lili, and with a newborn with each of them…It’s not catty, it’s cruel.

Social media isn’t just a mental health problem, it’s a public health crisis… In the digital space we’ve forgotten about humanity.”

Very true. We are now living in a realm of “keyboard warriors” and “cyber bullies.” With no end in sight.

However, the Duchess is not allowing any negative actions of some to damper her spirit or prevent her from moving forward. Something we all must learn to do. Moreover, she is encouraging everyone instead to go for their dreams; remembering that there is enough room for everyone to get a “piece of the pie.” Also, that others should not fear allowing additional individuals into their successful, established spaces. The Duchess mentions,

“The key thing that I think needs to be focused on in terms of equity is that it’s not a zero-sum game. Just because someone else has the same advantage as you do it doesnt mean that you are losing anything and actually create an environment that is so fair but also inclusive where people feel as though they have a seat at the table, as they should.”

Well said. Being fair is not harmful. It allows for an even playing field for all to flourish. Great panel, great event; and wonderful words of wisdom from the Duchess of Sussex.
