Black Kitchen: All the Inspiration and Tips You Need to Take the Plunge (Continued)

So then, what are some of the things about a black kitchen that may be a con? What is something that people may not tell you until it is too late? Well, one thing to truly consider is flooring.

Now while a black tone floor can look ultra luxe and chic, the clean up aspect of it, is not. Black hue floors are some of the toughest flooring options to maintain a “clean” look. While of course, if you regularly scrub your floors they will be fresh and fab. However, what we are saying is that such floors easily show dust, dirt, etc. So then, in your quest for a spotless looking kitchen, you may drive yourself a tad bit crazy attempting to keep spotless appearance.

Nevertheless, if that small cleaning detail does not alarm you, then fire away when incorporating them into your kitchen design aesthetic. Many find that uniformity far outweighs maintenance. Plus, black on black is dramatically glam and if you choose to go that way, you will certainly make a strong visual statement.

Furthermore, being a color completely absent of visible light, some may find a black kitchen to be a little “moody.” While black does have a very professional appearance, the tone itself can feel “depressing” to some after awhile. However, if you find black does not affect you negatively in any way then you should have no issue at all embracing this dark representation.

Lastly, a person may want to consider future buyers, IF they ever plan on selling their home after such a design change. While no doubt, there is probably some who would pay top dollar for a home with a black kitchen; the fact remains is that it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. The majority of kitchen lovers still prefer a lighter tone kitchen. Therefore, just something to keep in mind while you design the kitchen of your dreams!

So then, did you notice anything about the above women? You know, other than they all have amazing bodies that would even look fabulous in a paper sack? Hopefully you took note that they all are still THIN and are very TONED thanks to LIFTING.

Yes, lifting isn’t an enemy. In fact, it can not only help you lose weight, but keep it off. Muscle burns fat. Time and time again science has proven that when you exercise you are using your muscle groups.

The more you use them the more opportunity to build muscle mass. The resulting muscle tissue will burn more calories, even when you are at rest! According to some research and studies, even 10 pounds of muscle would burn an additional 50 calories in a day spent at rest.

While on the contrast, 10 pounds of fat would burn only 20 calories. That is over 50% less of a calorie burn. So then, which would you rather work to have more fat or more muscle?

Getting Stronger But Not Bigger

Getting Stronger But Not Bigger

Here is where working hard to gain more lean muscle comes into play. If you are able to maintain your muscle mass you will most likely find yourself in the group of people who keep from gaining weight as they get older. However, to maintain your muscle mass you will need to strength train. There is no way or shortcut around it; AND doing only cardio will not do it for you either.

Nevertheless, knowing all of that is wonderful, but if you do not do it out of fear of becoming “bulky” you will do yourself a major disservice. Oftentimes, the bulkiness look occurs when one is eating way too much while lifting weights. A lot of guys do this method in order to look “bigger.” However, it really boils down to one having excess body fat. While a calorie deficit will help you lose excess, when strength training you should never go below a 25% calorie deficit; or you may jeopardize your training from not being able to sustain your diet/workout routine.

If you are someone trying to be leaner the goal should be to add muscle without excess size. This can be achieved by stopping one or two reps before failure. Meaning before you literally cannot do another rep. If you push the muscle past failure and fatiguing you will encourage the muscle to add size. Therefore, your focus should be on gaining more strength while avoiding failure in order to build a more firm as well as dense looking muscle.

Multi Tasker- Why Being One WILL NOT Make You More Successful

Multi Tasker

If there is one thing you should takeaway from this article it’s this, “What you focus on, is what you will get.” Seriously, if you are all over the place like a bag of spilled marbles; how do you expect to actually get anything done for real? May sound blunt, may sound harsh; however, after reading why this is the case, you will be happy about getting a little tough love. For years, the idea of being a multi tasker has been praised as some sort of superhuman ability; that can not only save time, but make you more of a working powerhouse.

Wrong. While in theory being a multi tasker sounds legit, it can actually cause you to get less done. Self-improvement and science author, James Clear, put it this way,

“Your outcomes are a lagging measure of your habits. Your net worth is a lagging measure of your financial habits. Weight is a lagging measure of your eating habits. [Also] your knowledge is a lagging measure of your learning habits. You get what you repeat.”

Multi Tasker

Therefore, what you habitually do with your time and efforts is what you will get out of them. However, if you are constantly and repeatedly “doing too much,” spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere. You are basically going to be stuck. Looking forward and backward, but not making any ground.

Multi Tasker- Why Being One WILL NOT Make You More Successful

The following diagram really illustrates the importance of not being lured by the finesse or idea of multitasking. As one can see, Worker 1 is choosing to be more focused on one given task at a time. Then takes a break in order to recharge or do “lesser” activities.

Multi Tasker

Worker 2 is trying to accomplish multiple things at once. Starts one task then easily gets distracted doing something else. In the end, Worker 2 works just as hard (if not harder) and gets less accomplished.

The lesson? Work smarter, not harder. Instead of trying to be a multi tasker; aim to prioritize what is most important. Next, block off times for intense focus in order to REALLY hone in and get your work done.

This means no phone or any distractions. Don’t think having access to apps and your emails can make you work less efficiently? Well, back in the early 2000s, James Clear, spoke about a study which showed that average people check their emails every five minutes.

Further, when checking their emails it was sucking up about 64 seconds in order to get back to any previous tasks. Simply put, people could waste 1 out 6 minutes just checking emails. If that was the stats, back then, you can assume it’s even worse now.

Multi Tasker- Why Being One WILL NOT Make You More Successful (Continued)

Multi Tasker

Besides emails today we have photo sharing, tweets, DMs, texts and snaps. You may soon find yourself losing more than just one minute. So then, do not be fooled. Multitasking or double tasking does not work and can make you less productive.

Learn to focus. Focus on doing what is actually going to make you more successful and limit any distractions. You are only going to get what you focus on SOLELY. If blogging is your money maker, then dedicate a serious block of time to blogging. Or if you are a social media darling, then by golly get social and really make it count!

The point is, no matter what it is you want in life, you have to have a solid plan and eagle eye focus to get it. Someone climbing Everest isn’t looking around at a surrounding mountain and deciding to go climb it. Then get to the second mountain and decide to go back to Everest. Sounds silly right? This climber will never get to the top of either peak.

However, this is how some approach their work. Climbing towards their goal, but stopping to go tackle something else. Instead of being a silly climber, carve out good work ethic and practices; focus on what’s most important- one task at a time- and watch the magic happen.

Achieving the Dream: 6 Tips to Reach Your Goals Once and For All!

Achieving the Dream

I’m going to finish school! I will buy a house! I’m going to jumpstart that business! I will get in the best shape ever! Sound familiar? Achieving the dream may seem fantastic and attainable at the beginning of the year; however, for most, weeks and months later they find they are still stuck at square one.

What happened? Life. We get busy, changes occur or things just don’t go our way. Regardless, of what the background story or reason may be; our dreams and accomplishing goals never disappear into thin air. We still want to stretch out our hand as far as it will go to scoop them up, but sometimes we don’t always get there in one try.

Actually, you will be comforted to know that MOST people will experience “failure” or “setbacks” before they reach the success they are after. Nonetheless, is it really a failure if we try yet don’t succeed? Of course not!

Achieving the Dream: 6 Tips to Reach Your Goals Once and For All

Achieving the Dream

You can still get what you want and to where you want to be, it just means you may have to start fresh. A little reboot if you will. Here’s 6 tips that can help you reach your dreams even after starting over.

  1. Think of your dream as the overall objective. Set 2-3 smaller, reasonable goals that will help you to reach that particular objective. For instance, if your objective is to get into shape; your goals may include: walking 3 times a week, doing resistance training twice a week and to cut out soda completely. By doing those three things consistently you will certainly notice a change and get closer if not attain your objective.
  2. Buy a planner or calendar. These nifty tools will help you to not only stay organized but be accountable. You’ll be able to schedule tasks that will help keep you focused daily, weekly and monthly.
  3. Make a list of things that waste your time. Try to eliminate at least one of them. Wasting time on unimportant tasks is one of the biggest reasons people lose their focus and get off track.
  4. Leave the past in it’s rightful place … the past. Mistakes happen, things get overwhelming and restructure may be in order. The key is not to allow anything to throw you off. Let your history be just that as well as a learning lesson as to what worked and did not work so well.
  5. Be willing to embrace change and try new things. Doing the same routine and act will only yield the same old results. So if you want to start fresh and achieve a new ending you must aim to step out of your comfort zone and try out new things as well as tactics.
  6. Don’t beat yourself up for starting fresh or over. Embrace the process and realize that it’s persistence and consistency that will make you successful.

Achieving the Dream: 6 Tips to Reach Your Goals Once and For All -Final Words

Achieving the Dream

Think of achieving the dream as a baseball game. A player steps up to bat. The pitcher hurls the ball and the player takes a swing. Miss. Pitcher changes up his pitch style when throwing the ball for a second time and the player up to bat swings again. Another miss.

Now let’s say the third pitch is different from the first two and the pitcher throws this one with all of his might. The player batting takes a final swing. A HOME RUN! Now do you think the batting player or the crowd is upset that the home run took a few tries?

Of course, they don’t care! They are still just as excited as they would be if it had happened sooner or later in the game. So then, never get upset if it takes you a few tries in order to get where you want to be.

That’s just how the game of life is. Sometimes we get it right the first time, and at other times we might have to wait till our next turn.

Girl Fitness: How to be a Lean Mass Gainer Without Bulking Up

Lean Mass Gainer

STOP! If you lift weights you are going to bulk up!!! Unfortunately, that is the fitness myth women have been scaring and passing along to other women for decades. The truth is if you desire to be a lean mass gainer; it is not how much you’re lifting, but rather how you are lifting it.

You see, the truth about toning is that heavy weights help you to not only gain more strength; but also require less cardio and maintain moderate fat loss. A goal that many ladies aiming to be thinner would like to achieve. However, that is not how most go about.

Girl Fitness: How to be a Lean Mass Gainer Without Bulking Up

We all have done it… crash diets, excessive amounts of cardio and trying out the latest record breaking fat-burning workout. Yet, these types of methods are not always to keep up in the long run. Many of us have the power to dig deep within to keep up for bit, but then find ourselves back at square one again. So what’s the answer?

To be leaner, you have to do what it truly encompasses then take the right actions that will get lean and remain that way. So then, to begin with it’s important to know what does it mean to have a lean body mass.

Lean body mass is basically a calculation of taking your total body weight and subtracting body fat weight. It’s the mass of the body minus the storage lipid otherwise known as fat. Or in real super basic terms, it is the amount of weight you carry on your body that is not fat.

The goal many women have is to keep their lean body mass while dropping your body fat percentage down. As the fat falls away they will look leaner and very toned. So how can this be done?

Girl Fitness: How to be a Lean Mass Gainer Without Bulking Up (Continued)

Lean Mass Gainer

Training with heavier weights will help to develop actual muscle. Now if your end goal is tone up and decrease fat, it is highly recommended to stop one or two reps before hitting muscle failure. If you push past muscle failure and come to fatigue the muscle then you will most likely add size.

For a bodybuilder that’s awesome news! Nevertheless, for most of us that is not our fitness goals. We want the tone without minus the bulk. So it’s all about pushing yourself, but not going all the way to complete muscle fatigue.

Lastly, always remember that fat loss is dependent upon consistency. Allow us to repeat that. If you want to experience steady and sustainable fat loss you have to be consistent.

Stop and go may work for traffic on the streets, but it works havoc on any weight loss or fitness plan. Therefore, truly commit to your goals and yourself. You owe to YOU to become everything you want to be and should you. Anything is possible and you can do it because now you have the real secret to being a lean mass gainer!

Are all gluten free foods nasty? No. However, you will need to shop around and be willing to test out a bunch of brands; until you locate what tastes “normal” to you.

While going gluten free you will notice that bread does not seem to taste the same like gluten bread. Pasta is not quite pasta. Moreover, even crackers seem to be a little bit off. You see, the issue is if you have been eating processed foods with gluten all your life; you are used to various tastes and flavors that food companies have manufactured.

Most gluten free foods will not possess these exact same flavors, if as much flavor at all. As a result, you may have to readjust your taste buds some and be willing to search out like a treasure hunter all gluten free foods that seem to be more like “the real thing.” Nonetheless, do not worry they are out there!

All Gluten Free Foods

For instance, food brand B Free sells various types of breads from rolls to bagels and sliced loaves. Their bread products are awesome because you can toast them up like gluten filled bread without them falling apart or melting away.

While UDI’s is a major name in the gluten free realm, a lot times their products fall short in the taste department. It can feel like you are consuming bland cardboard. However, even if you are unable to discover gluten free products with tons of awesome flavor; there are some things you can do to up the taste factor.

Going back to bread try using very flavorful cheese or sliced meats to give the bread of your choice a much needed boost. Boars Head is absolutely a savior in this department! Negative Support -Why Clear Your Group For Better Success

Negative Support

You become like the five closet people to you. Is that a scary thought? Nevertheless, what does that even mean? It means your surroundings are EVERYTHING when it comes to you being a success. That is true whether you are receiving negative support or support that is positive driven.

The people that you allow into your life on a regular basis or either going to push you up or bring you down. Have you ever heard of the “Crab Theory?” It’s an interesting viewpoint that at times can be quite uneasy.

You see it is based on what can occur when a bunch of crabs are piled on top of each other inside a barrel. If one tries to escape, the others will firmly grab onto the escapee and pull him back down into the abyss with them. If the crab struggles too much, it’s actions can even lead to the others killing it.

Kind of morbid, yes, but makes a strong point. That is, some people DO NOT like change. They do not like their environment changing, and they also do not like the sight of seeing others trying to change theirs either.

Negative Support -Why Clear Your Group For Better Success

Negative Support

Therefore, the question becomes… are the people around you okay with you wanting a change? A change perhaps with building a business, getting physically more fit, buying a home or anything you want to do. Are they okay with it to the point of being willing to not only support you; but, actually be happy if you get what you are after?

Furthermore, the crab illustration also demonstrates the importance of being around “like-minded” individuals. Odds are if you are around successful people, you are going to be successful yourself. Why is that?

Well you are either going to learn enough from them to do better. Or, you are going to be around the right group long enough to make the connections you need in order to make your dreams happen too.  It’s like an old proverb, “If you are around wise people you will become wise, if you are around unwise people you will not fare well at all.”

Now does this mean that all your friends and family members have be Fortune 500 owners in order for you to associate with them? Of course not! However, they should not be a source of negative support either. If they have your back and are being a positive influence then they are a very valuable asset to your success.

Negative Support

Nonetheless, if at any point you feel that any family member or friend is pulling on you like crabs in a bucket. You may want to be a little more cautious. Helpful criticism and feedback should always be appreciated; because it can help you grow. However, negative energy and constant berating or negative speech will never be a recipe for reaching any goals.

Therefore, it is important to make sure you are clearing out any negative support from your life. You don’t have to cut people off or completely ignore them. Simply protect your mindset and only allow positive thinking and helpful advice to mold and drive you forward.

Negative Support -Why Clear Your Group For Better Success (Continued)

Negative Support

Lastly, the crab theory also solidifies the point of not always going with the crowd. Are you going to be strong enough to handle the feeling of sticking out from the pack? Only time will tell.

Yet, it will help knowing that it is okay to do so. It’s like that familiar saying our parents tell us when we are young. They say, “If all your friends jump off a high wall or mountain, are you going to do it too?

Oh course, it sounds ludicrous to do something like that. Jump off a super high mountain just because our friends do it. It could be disastrous, even costing us our life. However, that is sadly just how some choose to live their lives. They’ll only do things if everyone else does it.

You can see this kind of peer pressure through social media. One couple takes a picture showing the wife extending her hand back to grab her hubby’s hand; and then every couple takes a picture like that. Or one person posts themselves jumping in the air to show they’re having fun and life is good. Next thing you know others are doing the same. It’s the “in” thing to do.

Just like illustratively peer pressure can cost some their lives if they jump off a “high mountain”. Peer pressure can also cost some people their dreams. Such pressure from those close to us can be so strong they cause us to give up.

Negative Support -Why Clear Your Group, Change the Game

How do these types succeed in getting us to quit? Negativity. Ever notice how some famous couples split? Enough negative comments from fans and outsiders then suddenly it’s a bad career move to stay together. Yet, the couples who stay together regardless of what people say years later find those same people rooting for them.

Huh? What changed? Well, the naysayers basically became believers. They came to see that the couple made a great choice by staying together despite negativity and they actually respect them for it. Or even if they don’t respect them they can at least acknowledge the real love and joy that the couple possesses.

Negative Support

The same is true of us reaching our dreams. It’s inevitable that at some point we will face negativity. Not everyone is going to be supportive and quite frankly they don’t have to be. However, it is up to us to weed out those who truly do not have our best interests at heart.

Plus, if we keep pushing forward and reach our goals; we may find that those who did not support now do. That is because they see that WE made the right choice for US. They see that WE were strong and just need to BELIEVE in ourselves. So now, THEY wish they could do the same and can at least admit that they have noticed you brought about a change. The change you wanted.

Negative Support -Final Word

Negative Support

The true key to it all is positivity. If we are around positive people, keep a positive mindset, and stay focused then positive outcomes can be had.

So then, how is your support group? Are they helping or pulling you down? Are they advancing you or causing you to constantly take two steps back? The answers may help you to see if you may need to clear out any negative support.

Money Happiness – Can Making More Buy Happiness… Latest Findings May Shock!

Leave it to a couple of Noble Prize Winners to get the latest scoop! While the whole money happiness correlation is always in a state of debate; Daniel Kahneman and Angus Deaton believe they have reached the best possible conclusion.

In a recent poll involving 1,000 American households they discovered that making more can indeed buy happiness; but then that same joy literally slams into a dead-end. Yikes.

Money Happiness – Can Making More Buy Happiness… Latest Findings May Shock

Consequently, many economists are not exactly wrong when they make the claim that money can increase happiness. However, they do not always mention how that “happiness” is not exactly fulfilling. There comes a point where all comforts are met and money no longer produces satisfaction. The study’s findings reveal:

“When people making $30,000 a year are asked what kind of annual salary it would take to make them truly happy; the average answer is $50,000. You ask the same question of people making $100,000 a year, you’d expect them to say, ‘I’m double happy! I make twice the happiness threshold!’

money happiness

Instead, what they actually say, on average; is that if they made $250,000 a year, then they’d be truly happy. You might think that means there is no set monetary amount that brings happiness; but that’s not entirely true, either. There is a set amount, and it’s $75,000.

Reported well-being rises with income until you hit $75,000, at which point it levels off. Beyond that, there’s no observable increase in happiness with higher income.”

Interesting. Nevertheless, in a nutshell what does that all mean? Well, for many happiness does increase when wages go up, but as economists have found; it is likely due to how society and various cultural backgrounds as a whole have been conditioned. From youth up most are taught that a higher salary means satisfaction. We are literally trained to believe and associate wealth with higher life satisfaction.

Money Happiness – Can Making More Buy Happiness…

However, as this study and many others show; money happiness comes with an expiration. At a certain point, when all basic necessities are met: food, housing, clothing, etc. Then the “relationship between money and happiness becomes purely theoretical.” Once needs are met you will have to look elsewhere to be “happy.”

While this study’s numbers can seem a little absurd given where you may live. For instance, in NY or California making $75,000 may not even cover just the basics. Thanks to good old social media, we spotted others who agree. Here are just a few of their thoughts.

“1,000 households where?? Definitely not NY.”

“If you live in any major city in the U.S., making more than $75,000 is a necessity to pay living expenses.

“I’d like to see these numbers adjusted to NYC.”

“This is a widely inaccurate generalization – it doesn’t I think take into account cost of living across different cities and states.”

“I’ve often thought about this and it depends on where you live and how much money it is to live there and meet your basic needs… So it all depends.”

“50k… so they can take home a measly 37. American wages are a joke.”

Money Happiness – Can Making More Buy Happiness… (Continued)

money happiness

Yes, choosing to live in an expensive area is going to cost more money. Simple math. Realistic expectation. However, are all these studies on money happiness pointless?

We found one comment in particular that in our opinion brilliantly shows what all this research is trying to convey. One commenter stated,

“Interesting. Poverty is stressful. But anything above struggle with smart spending is actually a good place mentally; which makes you feel happy and more positive. Greed and trying to showboat can cause more stress than poverty.”

Do you agree with the above? Keeping up with the Jones can look good from the outside, but can actually cause unhappiness. Studies on money are interesting, plus great conversation; but they also help to show that is is always important to find a set amount that takes care of you and does not “overstretch” you either.

Like anything in life, money is a balancing act. We all need it to live, that’s a given. Yet, it’s about learning how much it takes to be truly content and not allowing the dollar to be the only reason we get up in the mornings.
