Well okay then future Mrs. Russell Wilson! Ciara was stopping traffic and taking names as she attended this year’s New York International Auto Show. The New York International Auto Show or NYIAS for short is the place to be if you or Bae have a love for metal on four wheels. The show offers attendees the opportunity to see new vehicles as well as car concepts. A family event that even offers group tours so that any fashionista can truly relax, pick up some tidbits and truly feel apart of the auto clique.

Moreover, the New York International Auto Show also brings out the rich and famous set as well. For one thing they are ones who can most likely can afford to take a showcased whip home. Remember that show Cribs that came on MTV when we were kids? Some of those celebs probably spotted one of their soon-to-be rides at a major auto show such as the NYIAS.

Car show attendee, Ciara, posed with a few of the industry’s hottest new reveals. She’s got a new four million dollar engagement ring (go girl) so our CiCi fit the high end event well. Speaking of high end, Ciara’s attire was of the same caliber. CiCi wore a vest and shorts set by Versace with shoes by Stuart Weitzman. From head to toe Ciara’s outfit went 0-100 real quick!

Hair Notes: The some up with some down look is not just for little girls. Add some sex appeal to the style like Ciara by leaving face-framing, wispy pieces to hang loosely.

Ciara took a moment to pose it out with television host Andy Peeke. We love his expression in this pic (lol).

Target Introduces Swim Leggings For Summer

Target Introduces Swim Leggings For Summer

Will it be fruit or a store bought donut? As summer nears we girls often begin to make those pesky big decisions. Those choices that will separate the string bikini clan from the hide in a towel body-wrap bunch. Yesterday morning as I stood in front of my kitchen island staring at my foe, a very glazed carb filled donut, my mind quickly shifted from my thighs to a garment that could possibly make quite a ‘splash’ this season and my breakfast decision easier. This particular couture is being called swim leggings.

Leggings? That can get wet?! Yes dolls, those comfy gym pants we’ve grown to love and Instagram because it makes our booties look on point have been reenvisioned for summer. A seemingly mythical hybrid that is part wet suit/athletic wear as well as part swim/beach attire just made out of a lighter material. Nevertheless, could an item used with a dumbbell translate to being fashionable at the beach?

Target has decided to stretch the limits of swimwear with the Marimekko collection. Items range in price, going up towards a $500 price point. Moreover, do keep in mind that overall this collection is not just swimwear but includes all summer essentials ranging from a bike to a hat. Therefore, anything that you could possibly want (even a paddle board) is there waiting to be bought by you.

Nonetheless, I digress. For $25 you could purchase yourself a pair of the swim leggings. Now my first thought, upon seeing the Marimekko look is that I didn’t think they were quite my style. Of course, like anyone else the idea of hiding a problem area is always welcomed, but leggings for just frolicking and not surfing seemed like a bit of a stretch (like what I did there?).

However, if you are the type of gal that enjoys a more modest fit swim leggings may be right up your alley. You would not be alone either. I researched and got a little 4-1-1 on what women had to say on the leggings and here are a few of their thoughts:

“I like this because I don’t like revealing my body. I usually just wear shorts and a t-shirt when I’m going swimming.”

“For that day you feel like not shaving.”

“LOL. Target always be trying new stuff! But it’s actually kinda cute, it’s like a two piece wet suit! But with lighter material lol.”

“It’s already been done. I have swim leggings… Target is a few years late.”

“It’s a wetsuit. But nicer and more feminine. This is nice for women who aren’t super confident showing a lot of skin. Even one pieces show your legs so for the woman who isn’t confident with that boom here’s a solution.”

“I think this could take off. Swim leggings would be a nice modest option. I’d like to see a legging capri/cropped option… maybe with a regular triangle top. That be cute.”

Well, it looks like the ladies have spoken! We all want to be comfortable and we all want to look our best. If swim leggings gets you to that place of zen for summer then go for it! By the way, I chose the fruit.

Kelly Rowland Makeup Line For Dark Skin Girls!

Kelly Rowland Makeup Line For Dark Skin Girls

We were beyond excited to hear news of the Kelly Rowland makeup line! Kelly has always been such a beauty, so then it makes sense that she would want to spread her wings within the cosmetics industry. What is even more fabulous about the announcement is that the Kelly Rowland Makeup Line will also cater to those rocking with a little more melanin.

Being a gorgeous chocolate girl herself we are sure Rowland will be able to develop a collection that will be well-suited for ebony girls. Foundation and the like can easily become a headache when searching for a perfect tone match. Many makeup companies do not create tints that go deep enough to look natural and give off a seamless finish.

Kelly Rowland Makeup Line For Dark Skin Girls4

Nevertheless, who can forget the black supermodels who have come forward to say that MUAs (makeup artists) working designer shows did not have makeup on hand in order to make them up for the catwalk. Many of these very models have had to bring their own foundation just to get ready backstage. If the fashion industry can not meet the needs of dark skin women, who could?

Well, fortunately throughout the years women of color have spearheaded the movement that WE have to be the ones to change things for the better. Fashion icon, Iman, had to face the lack of cosmetics issue at photo shoots and runway shows during her era as well. These experiences inspired her to develop her own makeup collection for women of color. Kelly Rowland says Iman has inspired her to do the same. Rowland declared,

“My makeup artist Sheika Daley and I are actually starting a makeup line we’re making sure we make, well we’re starting off with lashes and then we’re going to have it grow for all women. But definitely making sure we have our chocolate girls covered. Gotta get the chocolate girls in there! We have to have that, you know. I think Iman has done a beautiful makeup line and I want to do it too!”

Yes, just as in the hair industry as more black girls make the move to design products by us and for us our needs from beauty to couture are sure to be met. Speaking of beauty, be sure to browse and shop our online 1966 Beauty Store! We have worked hard to bring you a comprehensive store that will include the best products for black hair and black beauty. Check it out and be sure to tell us what you think!

Covergirl x Empire Collection Party By Vogue

Vogue mag threw a star-studded beauty event in order to celebrate the Covergirl x Empire Collection. The makeup brand’s collaboration with the hit television show will allow ladies to add Empire inspired cosmetics to their beauty bags. More collection details will be released simultaneously with Empire’s return on March 30th.

All day Empire fans have been salivating over the news of the release. By the looks of things Covergirl is cornering an untapped market and will be met with success. A few comments we noticed on social media platforms in regards to the collection were:

“I know it’s just Covergirl but you know I love me some Empire! Hope we get this in Ulta!”

“I can’t wait!”

“Yasssssssss!”

“BRILLIANT! So much diversity! Love it!”

“Slaying my life!”

As you can see, to say that fans are excited about the Covergirl x Empire Collection would be an understatement. Nevertheless, one burning question did come to the fore. Where in the world is Cookie? Lyons seems to be clearly missing from the ad campaign. We will definitely be on the lookout for answers to that mystery.

Nonetheless, as mentioned Vogue held a soirée for the Covergirl x Empire Collection. Supermodel Lais Ribiero attended looking as stunning as ever! Lais wore an all black Phillip Lim ensemble with jewelry by Jennifer Fisher.

Empire actress Serayah also rolled through with a smoky eye beauty look that could bring any man to his knees. Serayah is thrilled about the Covergirl collab and took to IG to express to fans just how she felt. She said,

“Such a dream come true, the little girl came out in me last night. Thank you so much. Covergirl, Vogue #Empire.”

Fashion LA Awards Attended By Ciara & Karreuche Tran

Fashion LA Awards Attended By Ciara & Karreuche Tran

The 2016 Fashion LA Awards was seriously PACKED with tons of star power. From Kanye, who recently admitted to being a Bieber fan to Nick Jonas we had many reasons to be Jealous. Nevertheless, we sucked up our style pride and feasted our eyes on two beauties who literally brought it and then some! Ciara and Karreuche Tran shut it down in all black and white attire.

We will begin with the lovely Ciara who attended the Beverly Hills event with her new fiancé Russell Wilson who wasn’t too shabby himself! Ciara dazzled at the Fashion LA Awards in a black gown by Alexandre Vauthier. Ciara and her beau proved that the couple that looks chic together stays together!

Alright, on to another one of our favorite style killers, Karreuche Tran. Flash tattoo designer Karreuche showed some skin in a two piece ensemble by Open Ceremony. We loved the addition of the gold cuff which gave her look an even more luxe vibe.

Fashion LA Awards Attended By Ciara & Karreuche Tran3

Believe it or not fashion friends but this look by Tran for the 2016 Fashion LA Awards almost didn’t occur! Tran’s stylist, Bryon Javar, revealed via Instagram that Karreuche’s look was changed just hours before the carpet and a new seamstress needed to be located after a cancellation. Javar worked his magic and got a seamstress and was able to send out Karreuche in her white goddess couture paired with shoes by Azzedine Alaia.

Javar sounds like the type guy you’d want around in a fashion pinch! Karreuche is a lucky gal to have such an amazing team and they definitely created style magic last night. However, Ciara and Karreuche have more in common then just great fashion, more on that in our upcoming hair post!

Tart Collections Rella Coat Worn By Jasmine Sanders

Tart Collections Rella Coat Worn By Jasmine Sanders

The weather here in California has been sporadic to say the very least. In the land where the sun is supposed to shine 24/7 things have been less than ideal to the typical Los Angeles native. Temps go up just as fast as they seem to go down. We’ll blame it on El Niño this year and keep it rolling. Nevertheless, to combat the cool weather foe we recommend Tart Collections Rella Coat.

Being Instagram dwellers we spotted the chic coat on Jasmine Sanders aka Golden Barbie. Jasmine wore the Tart Collections Rella Coat in Blush (pink) for a red carpet event and also took one slaying selfie in it. Sanders loves her coat and so do we!

Want to get your hands on this stylish furry little number? Well, gals you are in luck because the Rella just went on sale! Retail price for the coat is now under $200. So then, for a tiny splurge you can look like a fabulous supermodel too.

Beauty Insider: Akris Graphic Lines Eye Makeup

Beauty Insider: Akris Graphic Lines Eye Makeup

We recently spotted an interesting beauty trend fresh from the runway. This particular beauty look proves that sometimes it is the most simple makeup that can have the most dramatic effect. Simplicity is defined as freedom from complexity, intricacy, or division into parts. Case in point, the graphic lines eye makeup look created by Diane Kendal for Akris Fall/Winter 2016-2017 fashion show.

Models were treated to a futuristic beauty  look that incorporated distinct and precise lines. The graphic lines eye makeup looks varied with some lines floating right above the lids, while others completely surrounded and sectioned off the eye by following the bridge of the nose on up right below the eyebrow.

Beauty Insider: Akris Graphic Lines Eye Makeup 2

Can this look translate into everyday wear? Of course, runway shows always have a bit of fantasy attached to them, however, just like the fashions themselves the beauty aspects can be toned down for ready-to-wear options too. We suggest sticking to the single line right below the brows. This eye makeup may not be appropriate for school or work, but is perfect for a night out with friends.

Increase Shine With Egg and Banana Hair Treatment

Increase Shine With Egg and Banana Hair Treatment

Got head full of dull, lifeless looking strands? Do not fear a natural egg and banana hair treatment is here! Eggs and bananas are two wonderful foods that are actually great for your hair too. Why are they so effective?

Bananas being rich in potassium can restore elasticity, add strength and minimize breakage. Moreover, bananas can hydrate strands thus keeping dry, flaky scalp issues at bay. Eggs can also cure dandruff and help make hair stronger. This is because strands are composed of seventy percent protein (keratin) just like eggs. Therefore, introducing more protein into the mix can give hair the conditioning it really needs. The protein, fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants found in eggs takes brittle tresses and makes roots as well as follicles stronger.

The Egg and Banana Hair Treatment

  1. Combine one mashed up banana with one egg.
  2. Mix together yet keep the mixture thick.
  3. Apply the egg and banana paste to strands and let it sit for fifteen to thirty minutes.
  4. Wash and condition hair as usual.
