So then, did you notice anything about the above women? You know, other than they all have amazing bodies that would even look fabulous in a paper sack? Hopefully you took note that they all are still THIN and are very TONED thanks to LIFTING.
Yes, lifting isn’t an enemy. In fact, it can not only help you lose weight, but keep it off. Muscle burns fat. Time and time again science has proven that when you exercise you are using your muscle groups.
The more you use them the more opportunity to build muscle mass. The resulting muscle tissue will burn more calories, even when you are at rest! According to some research and studies, even 10 pounds of muscle would burn an additional 50 calories in a day spent at rest.
While on the contrast, 10 pounds of fat would burn only 20 calories. That is over 50% less of a calorie burn. So then, which would you rather work to have more fat or more muscle?
Getting Stronger But Not Bigger
Here is where working hard to gain more lean muscle comes into play. If you are able to maintain your muscle mass you will most likely find yourself in the group of people who keep from gaining weight as they get older. However, to maintain your muscle mass you will need to strength train. There is no way or shortcut around it; AND doing only cardio will not do it for you either.
Nevertheless, knowing all of that is wonderful, but if you do not do it out of fear of becoming “bulky” you will do yourself a major disservice. Oftentimes, the bulkiness look occurs when one is eating way too much while lifting weights. A lot of guys do this method in order to look “bigger.” However, it really boils down to one having excess body fat. While a calorie deficit will help you lose excess, when strength training you should never go below a 25% calorie deficit; or you may jeopardize your training from not being able to sustain your diet/workout routine.
If you are someone trying to be leaner the goal should be to add muscle without excess size. This can be achieved by stopping one or two reps before failure. Meaning before you literally cannot do another rep. If you push the muscle past failure and fatiguing you will encourage the muscle to add size. Therefore, your focus should be on gaining more strength while avoiding failure in order to build a more firm as well as dense looking muscle.

Lastly, always remember that fat loss is dependent upon consistency. Allow us to repeat that. If you want to experience steady and sustainable fat loss you have to be consistent.

Here are two simple exercises you and your boo can do at home. It’s a plank with a squat and each person gets a workout at the same time. Squats for butt and legs, and plank for core and upper body. Do 20 reps for 10 sets. If you’re just beginning, do 10 reps for 5 sets.”
Couple Workout Routine -Halle Berry Demonstrates
Halle Berry is one of the hottest women ever. Therefore, if that is her advice we are taking it! Get like Halle and try out this couple workout routine. Here is how to do it with photo reference!
One partner gets into plank position, while the other stands behind in a deep squat with feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart; while holding the planker’s feet. The squater should then stand up with knees slightly bent. This is the start position.
From the start position, the planker continues to hold their position while the squater squats down. Perform 20 reps for 10 sets, or if just beginning, do 10 reps for 5 sets.
Once all the sets are completed, switch positions. The squater moves to the plank, while the planker becomes the squater. Then perform the same amount of reps again. Want a major challenge? Instead of reps just do as many reps as you can do before the burn becomes too much.

Well, planks are excellent for strengthening the core, but after awhile how long do you really want to be stuck holding that position? Therefore, to get more bang out of your buck all you have to do is tack on an additional element. The movement involved with Plank Pulls forces your body to stabilize itself. This slight variation will make the move more challenging allowing you to work your stomach muscles even more fully. Score!

Now that we know why to perform one of Berry’s signature fitness moves; still begs the question, how can we attain and keep a physique like an Oscar winning actress. During one of her new Fit Friday tips Halle kindly gave her fans some exercise advice. She says,
“It’s fitness Friday! You asked how to get started? It’s simple, you just decide to start!
You decide today that you are worth it! Trust me, I know it’s hard to focus and dedicate time to working out each day, but with 24 hours in the day you can surely take one and dedicate it to you! You don’t need a fancy gym to get started. All you need is a living room, the patio, kitchen floor, a driveway or a backyard, and a bottle water.
This simple exercise is called a plank pull. This starts to strengthen your core, and a strong core has been key to my workouts.
Each week I’m going to pick a question that you asked and Peter, my trainer, and I will do our best to answer. First, we were asked: If you have weight to lose, is it better to lose weight before you start working out? Peter says it’s best to do them simultaneously.
You can start by walking each day or doing jumping jacks for cardio, while using very light weight. Or again holding water bottles in each hand if you don’t have weights. And you can also start the plank pulls.”

What You Will Need
Full Water Bottle or Light Weight
Your Own Body Weight
Step 1– Position yourself into the classic plank position keeping stomach tucked in and contracted. Hold the water bottle in your right hand and extend arm forward. This is the starting position.
Step 2– While maintaining the plank, draw right arm back until your hand is near the chest then extend the arm back to start position. This is one rep. Do as many as you can then switch sides.
Step 3– Move the bottle or light weight to your left and repeat the exercise. Stay in a plank, but extend and pull left arm like you had on the ride side.
Step 4– Do as many reps as you can on the left side and then you’re done!

An exercise that hits two common problem areas? Uhm, count us in! High kicks can be performed starting from a lunge or squat position. Or by simply balancing on one leg while kicking the other leg up and as high as you comfortably can.
Start by doing three sets of 15-20 reps. Work up to being able to kick for an extended amount of time or even a set amount. Some pros even do a 1,000 kick challenge! Not necessary to see real results, but nothing like a good challenge in order to reach your fitness goals.
