Rihanna Wants You to Upgrade Your Sock Game With Stance

Our favorite model/singer of all time has a new fashion venture that is just simply cool. How many celebrities out there are choosing to endorse socks? Better yet, how many could lend one’s name to a sock brand and make them look like the must-have accessory of the season? We have to say it, but most likely only Rihanna!

Just days ago RiRi released an attention grabbing music video for her music chart hit BBHMM that had everyone talking. Now the trendy, sassy star is the newest face aka Punk and Poet for Stance socks and the brand couldn’t be happier to have her on board. The Vice President of the women’s division of Stance, Candy Harris spilled the beans on why Rihanna was their obvious choice. She said,

“She’s one of the few women in fashion whose style can go from street to couture in the blink of an eye.”

Yeah, just think back on any look by Rihanna whether on a red carpet or on the streets of any another country and it is clear that she just gets “It.” Rihanna oozes a fashion and style appeal that makes even a pink dress that looks like a cupcake seem like the perfect prom dress.However, even though she is one of the few that can get away with wearing a paper sack… socks? Harris revealed,

“I know a lot of people are probably saying ‘Why socks? And that’s really the beauty of it, and that’s why Rihanna’s perfect, because she’s constantly innovating and looking to see what’s next. Socks are not really a trend; they’re a fashion staple.”

After that statement, it does make you have an Aha moment doesn’t it? Think about it, when is the last time someone said, “Oh you are wearing socks? Girl that was so two seasons ago!” We are sure you would be hard pressed to think of a conversation that went like that. Nevertheless, that proves the point that socks are not swayed by time, trends or any other fashion movement. They never go out of style, everyone wears them and they are really an untapped market.

While numerous celebrities are sticking to fragrances, typical fashion lines and hair extensions Rihanna has once again emerged as a true out of the box fashion thinker. For the Murder Rih Wrote (yeah, that’s sock collection name and we love the pun) ad campaign Rihanna seems to mix retro with modern chic due the styling of her hair as well as makeup and the edgy display and vibe of the socks. So then, what is the inspiration behind Rihanna’s first design of socks for Stance? Stance mentioned on their Instagram that,

“Every bad girl knows $$ makes the world go round, @badgalriri‘s first ever collab sock pays tribute to those who know how to hustle as hard as she does.”

Therefore, all the boss ladies of the world unite because we are getting some recognition! Over the past decade Rihanna has proven that hard work and dedication does get you places; especially if you are willing to take a Stance for what you truly believe in.

Fashion Notes: For the past few years runway models have been spotted coming the catwalk with socks and heels. As during those shows, Rihanna’s ad shows that the look doesn’t just have to remain in elementary school. Socks and heels can look just as sexy with the right attitude and vibes. Would you wear it?

Kendrick Lamar Wants to End Gang Rivalry Through Fashion

Some of us were either too little or not even alive to remember all the horrors and violence that surrounded two rival gangs… the Bloods and the Crips. However, for those that witnessed the blood spilled out between the two it is a war that you probably will never forget. Things have been much calmer than in times past, but the problem is that both gangs still exist. Where there is a flame there can come to be a fire so it is best to snuff out any remnants. Therefore, can true peace finally be achieved between these two long-time enemies?

Hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar would like to think so and has even taken action to bring on the unity, something Queen Latifah rapped about back in the day. Lamar is using fashion to make a statement. Kendrick Lamar has teamed up with the good people at Reebok to create the Ventilator “Blue & Red” Sneaker that will debut on July 18th. The sneakers have a very simple and neutral design with the exception of having the two signature colors of the Bloods (red) and Crips (blue). Could it be so easy that a little fashion could end a hateful rivalry between two L.A. gangs? Only time will tell, but its nice to see someone aiming for a better tomorrow.

Being a successful entrepreneur seems just flow through Hannah’s veins for she also is a co-founder of the mobile app Beautified. Beautified can be used in order to locate last-minute beauty services. Oh yeah, by the way, this chic New Yorker is only 27!

Bronfman is one of fashion’s front row darlings at designer runway shows. So then, it is no wonder girls from around world wouldn’t want to immolate her cool, fresh style. We keep on falling…Innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn In In In love with Alicia’s fashion and beauty ventures! Sorry, for that we know we can be a little pitchy at times but we just couldn’t resist. The songstress is the face of Levi’s New Denim Collection for Women and she looks absolutely amazing.

Keyes has always had an unique style so it is great to see her being highlighted as a style forecaster. Moreover, dare we also say that it is refreshing to see a woman with REAL curves being a spokes-model for a major brand? In a world where most women are not a size 2 Alicia’s fly thick figure is a tribute to women everywhere with a little more meat on the bones. Levi’s has even said that these innovative jeans come with serious body benefits, because they are made for every shape, size, and style.

Alicia spurs on the masses by opening the ad with the words, “All women are naturally bada**.” Her viewpoint of women does not stop there with that edgy remark, Alicia goes on to reveal what also makes women powerful, beautiful beings. See the promo below!

Imaan Hammam, Aya Jones and Lineisy Montero- Future of Modeling Industry

With new gorgeous faces being seen on a daily basis it is hard to break out in an industry that is all about youth and beauty. As many television shows have helped to emphasize is that a model has to have that special something or Je Ne Sais Quoi that electrifies them off the pages of editorials, runways as well as ad campaigns. Teen Vogue is diving into this industry and giving attention to those believed to be rising new faces.

It wasn’t that long ago where black models were barely seen or utilized regularly as muse’s of top designers. So then, it is very exciting to see three black models receive a nod of approval and highlighted as the new “It” girls on the block. Models Aya Jones, Imaan Hammam and Lineisy Montero are all featured in the August issue.

Lineisy Montero Stars in Prada Fall/Winter 2015 Ad Campaign

Beautiful Lineisy Montero is one of the modeling rising stars to be featured in Prada’s ad campaign for fall/winter 2015. Montero is joined in the campaign by models Avery Blanchard, Estella Boersma Inga Dezhina, Ine Neefs, Greta Varlese and Maartje Verhoef. In the ad the stylish squad sport tailored coats, jackets, embellished dresses and sweaters with much school collar preppy attitude. It is clear that Prada does not want women to be afraid of stronger color or prints which nicely livens up normal winter attire that tends to focus on darker, drabber styles.

Moreover, it is amazing how the collection screams retro and modern at the exact same time. The entire campaign was captured by photographer Steven Meisel.

Accessories Report: We immediately took notice of the long-sleeved gloves featured in the campaign. Long gloves are so old Hollywood chic and convey upscale luxury. So then, this fall and winter feel free to have an Audrey Hepburn moment…Prada has given us the okay.

The Ladies of DOPE Pose It Out!

No doubt you have probably been seeing advertisements for the newly released film Dope. If you have absolutely no clue what it is about here is a quick insider summary. The film was actually a major hit out of the Sundance Film Festival circuit and dives into the life of a character named Malcolm, played by Shameik Moore. Dope is kind of like an 80’s movie throwback of kid is a nerd, kid gets discovered by cool kids then kid is no longer a dork.

Malcolm is living in a “tough” neighborhood yet is overcoming all the odds juggling studying for the SAT, academic interviews and college applications. One day Malcolm gets a chance invitation to a party that could change his social standing and possibly life forever in a way he never ever imagined. Will Malcolm come to find himself and be Dope? Well, you are just going to have to hit the theater to find out!

Alright, I know you are probably reading this post saying hey 1966 you promised us the ladies! We will torture you no further the stunning actresses of Dope starred in an editorial together for InStyle. The editorial featuring Chanel Iman, Zoe Kravitz, and Kiersey Clemons was to help promote their new movie and was lensed by the extraordinary Chad Pitman. As you shall see each lady’s individual style is showcased giving a great demo of “squad” fashion. So the next time you and your girls go out you can feel as Dope as these gals!

Fashionable Mention: Chanel Pre-Fall 2015 Floral Cardigan

In the realm of fashion usually when florals rear their couture heads is during the spring season. Spring is the time when every garden is an Eden and designers use this natural occurrence as inspiration. Nevertheless, the Chanel fashion house has never been one to follow the mold and for their Pre-Fall collection are throwing out the conventional point of view.

One piece of the collection that really stood out to us was a floral cardigan that seems to invoke royalty and splendor. The detailing is simply exquisite as well as intricate due to its crystal floral embroideries and appliqués. Truly fit for a queen and shows that it is absolutely okay to bend the rules of fashion. Just because a particular season comes to end, does not indicate that the trends should as well.
