Confirmation Premiere Fashion Recap

From the first time it aired, ratings soared through the roof for Kerry Washington‘s hit television show Scandal. With so much weekly tea as well as twist and turns viewers could not seem to get enough of the racy show. Recently, Kerry has taken her talents and starred in yet another bewitching storyline for a biopic entitled, Confirmation. Confirmation is the real life story of Anita Hill, a woman who dared to give testimony regarding sexual harassment during the Senate confirmation/nomination hearings of Clarence Thomas. Last night, at the HBO Confirmation premiere several leading ladies of black Hollywood were in attendance.

Lets start with the lady of the hour, Kerry Washington. Washington stunned in a $4k floral frock by Dolce and Gabbana. Moreover, Washington took care of style business right down to the smallest of details. Her mani was in a gorge neutral shade. With such a bold ensemble it was nice to see a more muted nail look that would not compete in a negative way with the rest her look.

Next up, is the gorgeous Gabrielle Union! At the Confirmation premiere Gabby even got the chance to snap a quick photo with Washington on the red carpet. Union sprinkled her own dose of black girl magic with a dress by Marc Jacobs. We absolutely loved Gabrielle and Kerry’s updos for the evening. The face-framing pieces and flowing tendrils of strands gave their hair a very romantic feel.

Not last but very least, let’s talk Zendaya! What did Zendaya adorn herself with for the Confirmation premiere? Coleman slayed in a colorful garment made by designer Rani Zakhem. Her hair also had a romantic flair due to a deep middle part with cascading waves. Can you say perfection?

After getting everyone into formation at this year’s NFL Super Bowl, all seemed pretty quiet throughout the kingdom of Queen Bey. With an appearance here and there one began to think is one of busiest women in entertainment finally on a much deserved break? No loves, those quiet moments was just like the calm before the storm because Beyonce has come out swinging some serious fashion and fitness power! If you were needing any fitness motivation to get off the couch and put down those smartphones to get bomb for summer Beyonce has you covered. Bey is releasing Ivy Park a new activewear line that will have you looking good as you work to feel and transform your body to be even better!

Nevertheless, it’s Beyonce, this is the perfection and diva status we have come to love and expect.

Zuri Hall NYC The Kooples Style Statement

This week E! Network correspondent, Zuri Hall, made a major fashion statement in a “New York minute.” Hall dazzled in a white couture suit by The Kooples as she strutted her stuff down the streets of NY. Nevertheless, it wasn’t all just about looking good, Hall was taking care of business!

Zuri told fans that she had achieved a new career pinnacle. One that was more like a life goal that she could now proudly scratch off her bucket list. Therefore, what big assignment and achievement did Hall accomplish? Zuri explained,

“I just moderated a NBC Universal panel in front of CEOs & execs, about branded content strategy! Taking the stage in the legendary SNL Studio= A bucket list (check mark).”

Well, just go on with your bad self Zuri! For a moment let’s get back to that bad and fab suit by The Kooples. How did Hall finish off her ensemble? Zuri wore sandals by Stuart Weitzman toted a stylish designer handbag by Chanel. Nothing says I’m about my business like a well-tailored suit with chic accessorizing.

Zuri Hall is not the only celebrity to rock The Kooples recently. Superstar Beyonce wore The Kooples leather shorts when she surprised everyone with an appearance on Lip Sync Battle in support of Channing Tatum. So from TV to music, celebrities want to get their hands on designs by The Kooples.

Style Ambassador: The Spring Jacket

The spring jacket should be a fashion staple found in any fashionista’s wardrobe. What exactly constitutes itself as being a spring jacket? It is couture outerwear that is chic, voguish and lighter than the typical winter coat or jacket. Due to temps heading more north this season it is stylishly advantageous to invest in a good jacket that will look great and take the slight spring chill off.

Our style ambassador, Carly, showed off more of her impeccable style taste. Carly paired a fab pair of white jeans with a printed spring jacket. By keeping her top and bottoms neutral, her bold, fun jacket steps right into the spotlight. Remember, whatever piece you want to emphasize needs to be complimented by pieces that will harmonize with your overall ensemble, not compete with it.

Beauty Notes: Carly is sporting a huge trend for spring, the rouge lip. Sassy meets classy!

Carly always looks great and full of confidence. How does she maintain such high esteem in her fashion as well as mindset. When asked, she told us,

“I would describe the art of being a woman as loving, caring, believing, trusting, [mixed with] hope, dignity, and faith. You’re stronger than any anxiety that you may be feeling. So never fear a thing!”

Unbreakable Jewelry Collection by Janet Jackson

It looks like Janet Jackson is still getting No Sleep. Jackson is keeping busy with the release of her Unbreakable Jewelry Collection. The collection will include many luxurious and exquisite designs for those in the market for a high-end piece.

Janet posted a photo to her social media accounts to begin creating buzz in regards to her jewels. In the photo she flashes that signature smile we all adore complimented by one of her jewelry designs. The Unbreakable Jewelry collection is described as being a mixture of “integrity, prestige and authentic brilliance.” All traits that perfectly sum up Janet’s personality.

Emirates Woman held a special gala to showcase Jackson’s jewelry collection. The exclusive event was invite only. So then, while most of the world could not be in attendance to see Janet’s work that doesn’t mean fans haven’t had their share of glimpses of the collection.

At this year’s BET Awards Janet Jackson wore a few Unbreakable Jewelry collection designs: a 25 carat heart-shaped necklace ($2,000,000) and 13 carat Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond ring ($500,000). Jackson was in attendance to receive the Ultimate Icon Award. Moreover, as you can see from the figures above, the price point is geared toward those with deeper pockets.

Nevertheless, this also just goes to show that black women are continuing to spread their wings in big business. From entertainment to corporate to fashion we are flexing our power muscles and we are only getting started. Congratulations Ms. Jackson (we nasty), thank you for continuing to inspire us and we wish you much success with your collection!

If I had to deem one item of clothing as being totally badazz it would have to be a leather jacket. Maybe it’s because it literally takes a hammer in order to beat it into submission to flatten stitches and have it take form. Or then again it could be the decades of Hollywood films that have shown action heroes and bad guys as well as girls wearing one thus giving off an exclusive “cool factor.” Whatever it may be the reason one fact remains… it’s just simply an iconic look. With that in mind, a Dries Van Noten leather jacket spotted on a sexy music star is fitting that description to a “T.”

How do you take a classic couture statement and make women want to wear it over and over again? As any major designer knows you have to revision it and make it fresh again. The leather jacket has been modernized season after season with details ranging from sleek to intricate.

I’m infatuated with the Dries Van Noten leather jacket spotted on Rihanna as she made her way through the streets of NYC. The embellishments make it an edgy, yet fun jacket to want to sport. Absolutely love all of the patchwork, pins and hanging key chains that have give the Dries Van Noten leather jacket an effortless rocker vibe. Being nicknamed Badgal RiRi it is like she was born to wear this jacket. It completely fits her style and aesthetic.

Art Hearts Fashion LAFW Finale Recap

(Los Angeles)—It was an explosion of pioneering talent and ingenuity at Art Hearts Fashion LAFW finale night at the Taglyan Complex Thursday night sponsored by AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Wrapping the largest season to date with over 40 designers, the triumphant shows continue to lead the way for Fashion Week on the west coast. The Art Institutes of California brought a talented lineup of 13 student designers to make their debut on the runway. Designers Meraqi, Dunyah, Evana, and Adolfo Sanchez of CreativPR captivated the guests with breakout collections. The grand finale of the week brought designers Fernando Alberto, Mimi Tran and Rocky Gathercole together for an enthralling showcase of designs that defined the enchantment felt throughout the week. The star studded affair brought out celebrities throughout the week including: JoJo, Janice Dickinson, Jon Lovitz, Tristan Wilds, Terrell Owens, NFL Player James Anderson, Cory Feldman, Peter Madrigal, Jessica Parido, Phoebe Price, Michael Kuluva, Hazel-E of Love and Hip Hop, Chiqui Rivera, NFL Giants Player Myles White, Matt and Mark Harris of Storage Wars, Najee De-Tiege, Krista Keller Stodden of the Mother Daughter Project, Michelle Epps of Basketball Wives, Annie Ilonzeh of Empire, Host Amy Paffrath who walked for designer Jaime Elyse Couture, Cynthia Basinet, Colleen Shannon, Amber Smith, Angelica Bridges, Amanda Joy, Efren Ramirez, Renee Lawless, actresses Andrea Anders, Torri Anders, Tehmina Sunney, Vanessa Cloke, Phoebe Price, Mame Adje of ANTM, Drew Seeley and many more.

Art Institutes of California opened the Art Hearts Fashion LAFW finale night with a showcase featuring: Mildred Aroche, Anna V Bazhaeva, Brittney A Castillo, Elsie Delgado, Patrick Kevin Francisco, Joshua Maahs, Ninoska Navarro Rocha, Alena Sablan, Shanta Stevenson, Milan Stokes, Malik Vivian, Margaret Marie Ghallager, Nazeli Zeynalyan.

Meraqi took the runway opening the afternoon show with a collection of high end backpacks and travel bags. Deep earth tones set off the fine leather collection for both men and women. Dunyah brought a new menswear collection to the forefront blending modern streetwear with a clean sleek aesthetic. The fabrics range from natural earth tones mixed with a selection of premium lambskins and furs. Evana broke boundaries with pieces crafted with keen attention to detail, expressing a youthful yet sophisticated spirit. Rich colors and versatile structure enhanced the feminine shapes and textured fabrics. Designer Adolfo Sanchez showcased his latest collection “Light to Dark”, a new take on womenswear embracing soft and feminine looks. The materials are light-weight neoprene, muted colors, and romantic lace. As the collection grows it gravitates towards darker, stronger, more individualistic tone, featuring leather, wool and sexy silhouettes with hardware.

A performance by Anna Victoria delighted guests on the runway featuring designs by custom wardrobe celebrity designer Arman Morozov. Dance choreography was brought to you by celebrity choreographer Michael Silas.

Art Hearts Fashion LAFW finale showcase opened with designer Fernando Alberto debuting ‘The Royals’ collection. Fernando captures the essence of the modern woman in his ready-to-wear and bridal collections. The beauty of his craftsmanship transforms luxurious fabrics and textures into an exquisite design. Mimi Tran’s AW16 collection welcomed the introduction of silk, leather and Swarovski crystals, making for a versatile and wearable collection while maintaining the elegance signature to the brand. Stand out designs include the gold 3D custom made pieces of which each design has 150 Swarovski crystals hand beaded on to it. Art Hearts Fashion’s epic four day showcase closed out Fashion Week with a grand finale show by provocative avant garde designer Rocky Gathercole. Gold embellished bodysuits, metallic corsets, and impeccable fringe details made their way down the runway to a mesmerized audience. Guests were on their feet in a standing ovation as the extravagant designs sauntered down the runway bidding adieu to fashion week.
