2018 Black Music Honors Celebrates Aretha Franklin Music and Legacy

The 2018 Black Music Honors recognized the life and legacy of Aretha Franklin; during the award show taping on Thursday, August 16. Hosted by 2017 Marconi Award Winner Rickey Smiley; and also singer/actress LeToya Luckett; the annual two-hour television special honors artists and musicians who have influenced and made significant contributions to American music. This year’s honorees were: Bobby Brown, Faith Evans, Bebe & Cece Winans, Whodini, Stephanie Mills and Dallas Austin.

2018 Black Music Honors Celebrates Aretha Franklin Music and Legacy

The night included performances by: Bell Biv Devoe, Next, Jade Novah, Kierra Sheard; Tasha Page-Lockhart, V. Bozeman, Demetria McKinney; DJ Mell Starr, Sammie, Donnie McClurkin, Sammie; Yo-Yo, Koryn Hawthorne, Rhyon Brown, Raheem DeVaughn; Regina Belle, Paris Bennett, Syleena Johnson, Angela Winbush; Jonathan McReynolds, Monie Love; Ruben Studdard and Doug E. Fresh. Additional VIP’s in attendance included Shiggy, Kyla Jade, Stevie J and more.

Proceeds from the 2018 Black Music Honors will benefit the 2019 opening of the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) in Nashville. NMAAM’s mission is three-fold. To educate the world, preserve the legacy; and also celebrate the central role that African Americans play in creating the American soundtrack.

Nevertheless, many wonderful brands helped to make this year’s event a complete and total success. Event sponsors include AT&T, McDonald’s, Walmart, Johnson & Johnson and Chevrolet. With State Farm also being a title sponsor.

Furthermore, the annual two-hour television special taping will broadcast in national syndication from Sept. 8-30, 2018. Additionally, it will air on Bounce TV on Sept. 28, 2018.

Fans were not all talk either. They put their money where their mouth is and forwarded funds to a Kickstarter for TLC. The rest is history and now the self-entitled TLC album is here!

As much as we miss the extremely talented as well as dynamic Left-eye it is so nice nice to see the remaining ladies carrying the TLC torch proudly. T-Boz and Chilli are set to release their newest studio album, TLC. It will feature the bubbly and catchy song, Haters as well as the instant summer dance jam, Way Back.
