Some Gentle Reminders for Contact Lens Wearers
Our vision is a gift and we would never want to neglect it or take it for granted. Wearing contact lenses for the visually impaired can be a convenience but there are certain things we should always be aware of when it comes to caring for the lenses and our eyes. Below are five reminders or tips to help you:
- Always wash your hands – Since you’ll be touching your eyes with your fingers, you’ll want to wash your hands first to help keep your lenses as sterile as possible.
- Change your contact solution daily – Don’t think you’re saving money or time by keeping the same solution in your contact case for several days. What you’re really doing is inviting infection and buildup on your lenses. Change your solution and rinse the contact case daily!
- Don’t sleep in your contacts – Even if you have the type of contacts designed to be slept in, you will lengthen the life and quality of the lenses by taking them out nightly. It’s better for your eyes because it gives them a chance to “breathe” at night while you sleep.
- Insert contacts before you have apply your makeup – You’ll avoid possibly ruining your eye makeup or getting makeup on your lenses. When removing your makeup always take your contacts out first
- Keep your nails short – Long nails can scratch your eyes or rip your lenses so it’s better to keep your nails short.
