Well, say it ain’t so Joe. There’s been a slew of new studies that have associated pulmonary embolism with high amounts of TV viewing. Now that sounds serious.

Pulmonary embolism occurs when there is a blockage in the lungs’ arteries. How can this happen when watching the tube? Blood flow can slow down during bouts of prolonged immobility, hence long stays on the couch. This in turn can lead to clots forming within the pelvis or legs. The real scary part is that these clots can break free and begin to move around. They then can travel to the lungs and cause even more problems such as heart attack or sudden death.

Netflix Marathoning – What Are the Limits?

Of course, nothing done on an occasional basis should be of concern. However, according to research four and half hours of TV watching raises the risk of blood clot development. Also, every additional two hours raised risks by another forty percent.

As tense as all of this information sounds there are preventive measures that can be taken. For one, people who do not move much at all or live quite sedentary lifestyles are the ones more at risk. Movement is major key to being able to enjoy a good old Hulu or Netflix binge.

Be sure to turn off all apps for a bit in order to get regular exercise.  Moreover, if you get addicted to a particular show take a break every now and then to get your blood really flowing again. This is not any different then being on a long airplane ride. Which by the way can also promote clots. Shifting positions or getting up to use the bathroom can keep you safe. Therefore, simply move dolls and there will be no reason to fear Netfilx marathoning.
