Harpers Bazaar Pays Homage to Vladmir Tretchikoff

Fashion IS art. For their September 2018 edition Harpers Bazaar Pays Homage to Vladmir Tretchikoff; a Russian visionary who’s dazzling artwork still captivates and mesmerizes decades later. The editorial entitled, “The Female Gaze” is a multi-page spread that stars top models, Maria Borges as well as the lovely Xin Xie.

Vladimir’s artistry is well-known for it’s vibrancy, vividness; and of course alluring beauty. Tretchikoff’s stunning array of portraits at times captured the essence and spirit of women from across Africa as well as Asia. Another draw to his work is that he always seemed to make the woman in his paintings ooze with regal flair.

The Female Gaze magazine editorial recreates several famous Tretchikoff pieces including: Balinese Girl, Zulu Girl and Chinese Girl (1952). Maria Borges is the muse for the Balinese as well as Zulu masterpieces.

Fashion Notes: For the recreation of Balinese Girl, Maria Borges wears a stunning headwrap garment that is a design of Eric Javits. Javits is the designer behind several infamous celebrity headpieces and hats. Including those worn by Beyoncé, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, Serena Williams, Chanel Iman and Mary J. Blige. He is also the ingenious designer behind Naomi Campbell’s golden Balinese headpiece seen at the amfAR event.
