Diet Consistency – 8 Easy Sneaky Ways to Get and STAY on Track

When most people think of a diet, they probably think “starvation” LOL. Why? Well, when we fall off the wagon we normally are eating way more than we should. Due to this the pounds that creeping on; the clothes start getting bigger and before we know it nothing that zips is an option.

It happens. So then, when it comes time to start reversing our weight gain we automatically know what’s up. We must workout. It is imperative that we cut down on our calories.

However, does this mean we have to restrict ourselves to extremes? No. Unless, you are trying to get down to a certain weight by a certain date; there is no need for this. If the goal is to make the “new you” a lifestyle then you can go at a less stressful pace to get the weight back off.

So this is the main key to keep in mind. To be consistent you have to think of this journey as a lifestyle, not a countdown. This is something you want to do for the rest of your life… be healthy. Therefore, your mindset has to be in line with that.

The 8 Tips That Get The Job Done

  1. Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself – Seriously, why are you beating yourself up? Yes, you ate an extra cookie or ate a little more dinner than you should; but breathe, you’re fine. One widdle thing is not going to ruin everything; just get back on track the next day. It’s only if you are consistently messing up, that you are going to begin running into some snags. So remember you are not one and done; instead if you make a diet boo-boo just know you can get back on the fitness grind and be just fine. If it even makes you feel better, the next day after your “mistake” try exercising for 15 minutes more or eating a tad less so that everything kind of “evens out.”
  2. Increase the Good Stuff– Make half your plate stuff you know you should be eating… like fruits and veggies. When 50% of your plate is good, you are already setting yourself up to eat better.
  3. Be Realistic– You are not going to overnight be suddenly healed of wanting to eat sugar. So have REALISTIC expectations. Start off by simply increasing your water intake and cutting out some unnecessary snacking. For instance, I used to love my 3am chip fiestas; I cut it out and dropped 5lbs! I realized slow and steady can still win the race; you just have to start making even little changes.
  4. Think About Your Goals– What do you want out of all of this? A hot bod? Flatter stomach? Healthier mind and physique? A Hot Girl Summer? Revenge school body? Whatever, you want, that is what you need to keep reminding yourself. It’s easy to forget why we started down a certain path; however, remembering your motivation can help you to put down that donut, even if you really don’t want to.
  5. Replace ZEE Snacks– I still snack baby. I love snacking, snacking is me (Haha). However, I understand the power of replacing the bad for good. For example, Oreos for fruit, chips maybe for popcorn. The choice is yours. Research snacks that (*checks notes, you actually like to eat lol*) and allow you have a nice amount or come already pre-portioned. That way you will not overeat and you will feel satisfied without feeling you are denying yourself the simple joys of life.

Diet Consistency

  1. Think Ahead – Going out to eat? FUN! Just think about it first. If you know what restaurant you are hitting up, check out their menu online if available. See if they have meals that are less calories, customizable or just plain healthier for you. If all else fails, just don’t feel compelled to eat every last morsel on your plate lol. I know it’s tempting, but just remember to just eat till you feel full and that YOU CAN take leftovers home and enjoy some even the next day. Not overeating and having some self-control can allow you to eat what you want without guilt.
  2. Travel Smart -Going on vacation is cool… till you realized you gained 10 pounds in a week. To avoid this, have a plan! If your flight allows, pack small healthy snacks in a carry on bag to help avoid eating airport fast food. Also, pick the day or days you are okay eating or consuming things like dessert, alcohol or other fun stuff. That way you have firmly in your mind when and how you plan to be “good.”
  3. Let the Team Say Amen– Diet and Exercise is the superstar duo that makes everything possible. So to be successful in your fitness endeavors you have to work at them in unison. Make changes to both as you go along. Moreover, you do not have to start off with a full hour of exercise and a 1100 calorie diet at the start… unless you want to. Instead you can aim for 20 minutes of exercise the first week and try not to overeat. Furthermore, maybe the second week increase to a 25 minute workout and increasing your fruit and vegetable intake. As you work on both together you can be sure to see more substantial results from your sacrifices and good changes.
