You Asked: 1966 please help! I have been commenting on the Nichole Lynel page and no one is answering. I am trying to get some details regarding Lauren London’s dress. Can we buy it or not?

The Verdict: Sorry guys, but the news on this look is currently a little stylishly sketch. While there is plenty of fashion evidence that this design does in fact exist. Now being spotted on the gorgeous Lauren London; however, to be honest we have not seen this head-turning design since the NL’s fab runway show.

We scoured the brand’s site and all of our detective work turned up zilch. Therefore, our conclusion is that Nichole has the look ready to go; it’s just not currently “in production.”

Nevertheless, now that much interest has been churned up thanks to London; perhaps NL will go ahead and make the look available for purchase. We believe it would sell extremely well thanks to its dazzling one-shoulder and fringe detailing. The perfect gown for a voguish night on the town. Nonetheless, as of now we will have to wait to see if this dress becomes apart of the official Nichole Lynel lineup.

How did IMAN come to have such an amazing career in the tough and gruff modeling and fashion industries? Well, the model is discussing just that to InStyle. Regarding the piece and IMAN’s gorgeous visuals, the magazine says,

“Supreme. For our second March subscriber cover, IMAN wore this t-shirt as an homage to her stature as an unrivaled deity of the modeling world; a trailblazing cosmetics entrepreneur; and a long-standing advocate for women. (Although it was her idea for it to be wet!).

Her career has spanned four decades. And although she retired from the runways in 1989; she continues to outpace some of her youngest peers both in relevancy and ad pages. Most recently doing campaigns for Valentino and Balmain.

‘My plan is just loose. It’s kind of weird, because I’ve worked all my life, from when I was 14 years old… I’ve stumbled into things; or things found me. So now I’m at a stage where i’ll just see what happens.’

“About that time I had to ask IMAN why she decided to pose in a wet T-shirt for the cover of InStyle. ‘I suggested it,’ she told me. ‘I’m 63 — why would I have a Supreme T-shirt? It’s just a boring T-shirt. It’s too young and too hip.

So (on the set) I said, jokingly, ‘Why don’t we get it wet?’ And as I said it, everybody said, ‘Yeah!’ I was like, “F&%&, now I have to deliver.'”

Okay, so what is this Ty Ty? We are know from ANTM that Tyra is SUPER creative and will be forever one of the iconic faces of the modeling world. Well, the supermodel is taking both of those attributes and marrying them fabulously together. In a press release regarding Modelland we learn,

“Iconic supermodel turned super entrepreneur Tyra Banks announces her biggest venture yet, Modelland. A first-of-its-kind experiential attraction. Modelland will intersect a fantasy version of the modeling world with state-of-the-art interactive entertainment; creative collaborations, curated retail, dining and special events.

The breakthrough new attraction is set to open in late 2019 at Macerich’s Santa Monica Place. As one can see, sounds like this is going to be the Disneyland of the fashion and modeling realm! Nevertheless, why is Tyra bringing this attraction to the world; and what kind of work did she put into it? Banks explains,

“Modelland has been 10 intense years in the making. It has been my ultimate dream and I have worked tirelessly with laser-focused tunnel vision to bring to fruition. Modelland will awaken your childlike glee by entertaining; and educating in unexpected ways that will make learning about oneself fierce and fun.

Modelland is all about celebrating your flawsome self. We are fun. We are fierce; are fantasy. And, [also] we are for real.”

Expect Modelland later this year; so far we are seeing that it will be “late” 2019. Also, Modelland will be 21,000 sq. ft of fun; and right smack against high traffic, infamous Third Street Promenade. Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2019 Cast 43 Black Models and Industry is Silent

You can literally hear crickets and a pen dropping. The Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2019 fashion show made history; and it’s not even going viral. Maison Valentino’s Creative Director, Pierpaolo Piccioli cast 43 black models for Paris Fashion Week; in an industry in the past, where it was the norm to only see one; maybe two sprinkled throughout the entire show.

However, Pierpaolo did not allow “the standard” to influence his decision making. Instead he turned to celebration. The celebrating of true black beauty in all of its glorious femininity.

Why is all of this hoopla and spotlight on this subject necessary? Well, a quick lesson in history is all that is needed. Renown photographer Derek Blasberg recounts the dark truth and reality of Paris fashion. He explains,

“There was a time when French fashion houses wouldn’t lend clothes to black fashion magazines; (the owner of Ebony had to purchase clothes for photo shoots); and black models weren’t allowed to get dressed in the same backstages as white girls.

Today, Maison Valentino took the notion of color and couture and flipped it upside down in one of the most spectacular shows at Paris fashion week. Afterward, the designer, Pierpaolo Piccioli told me he wanted to celebrate black beauty beyond cultural conversations about diversity; and position the entire spectrum of femininity atop fashion’s food chain. The collection brought Naomi Campbell, who closed the show, to tears.”

Are these claims true about the struggles of black magazines? The daughter of the owner of Ebony Magazine, Linda Johnson Rice, confirmed this sad truth in a statement directed to Derek Blasberg. Linda says,

“Thank you Derek for acknowledging Ebony magazine. My mother Eunice W. Johnson did have to buy the couture for the Ebony Fashion Fair show. Maison Valentino was one of her favorites. She was a woman of innate style, taste and determination.”

Sad, just sad. Nevertheless, the industry has truly come a long way. In 2018, more black models and celebs were seen on the cover of September issues (the biggest edition of the year for any magazine, thus making it a great honor); than ever before. Also, the designer twins behind DSQUARED have put on shows featuring an all black cast of models. Additionally, long gone is the segregation between white and black models.

However, as the saying goes, “If you forget history, you are bound to forget it.” Therefore, let’s not forget those who paved the way for the black models of today, or forget there is still room for PLENTY of improvement. The label released the long anticipated Stuart Weitzman Spring 2019 campaign featuring cool girl, Willow Smith!

Willow is no stranger to the camera. The talented beauty is a common face spotted among the couture elite at numerous fashion shows as well as fashion shoots. Not often do I allow my natural hair to be used for work because I’m about protecting my kinks and curls from damage; (if you knew the struggle). It was amazing to have one of my main hair dressers who specializes in black hair booked to achieve this intricate updo with my natural hair which is such a different look for me!”

Designer and iconic couture visionary, Karl Lagerfield just released imagery showcasing the Chanel Spring/Summer 2019 Pre-Collection. The luxe lineup incorporates numerous trends of the season including: sequins, texture, gold as well as white tone fashions.

Lagerfield having an eye like no other; also took the wheel when it came to the camera lens. Karl took every last shot himself. Furthermore, the stunning visuals are also fronted by a couple of headlining top models in the industry. Adesuwa and Marjan both star in the Chanel Pre-Spring 2019 looks; thus adding their own personal flair and vibe which effortlessly took things to an even higher level.
