Even with one eyeball, anyone can see that Halle Berry’s body is STILL beyond smoking! One of the workouts that she does with her trainer is kickboxing. Now while Berry has been active all of her life, some of us may just be at the start line; especially when it comes to doing or trying out kickboxing. No worries y’all, for fitness Friday we are walking you through a Kickboxing Workout for Beginners all with the help of Ms. Berry herself!

Why should you try kickboxing? Well, in her usual weekly health post Halle explains,

“It’s Fitness Friday… Yay! And today I’m channeling [actor] Michael B. Jordan and my inner Creed. Nothing says warrior more than self defense; and boxing can empower the true warrior in all of us.

It’s also a high cardio workout that will definitely get your heart pumping! Today, we’ll be showing 4 entry level boxing and kickboxing moves that should give you the same everyday oomph it gives me.”

Therefore, is your fitness goal to become stronger, tone, gain energy and shed pounds? Well, then this is the workout for you! Let’s get to those 4 moves that Halle mentioned.

Here it is, a kickboxing workout for beginners! Check and study the photos and read the accompanying descriptions. Each description will also detail how long or how many reps to do of each move. Work up to performing the entire routine/circuit 5X through.

Kickboxing Workout for Beginners

Jab, Cross:

Hips facing forward, feet front and back, elbows in, chin towards chest. Turn punches in horonzontally at full extension then retract back to starting boxing posture. Repeat continuously for 60 seconds.

Left & Right Hook:

(Left) – Point your right knee towards your left knee by pivoting, remember to stay low and “sit down on the punch;” unwind your body and  throw a horizontal left hook with your palm facing you. Don’t swing just your arm, use your entire body as one unit. Remember, it all starts in the legs. Complete 20 reps on each arm. (Opposite instructions for Right Hook).

Uppercut:

(Right) Point your left knee to your right knee, dip low and keep your hands up by your eyebrows, while pivoting towards the right; bring your right uppercut in front of you, just below chin level. That’s the target zone. Remember, palm also faces towards you on this particular punch. Complete 20 reps. (Opposite instructions for Left Uppercut).

Push Kick:

Bring either your Left or Right knee towards your chest, chamber the knee for a split second; lean back slightly and launch your kick out by extending it in front of you. Aim with the ball of your foot or entire bottom of your foot. (Imagine kicking down a door off its hinges). Complete 20 reps on each leg.
