We get it, hair shrinkage is the pits. It can almost feel like your hair look is being short changed. Tresses start off stretched and closer to full length only to draw up like a clam in a shell. Plus, don’t even get us started on detangling. If only there is something one can do to fix both issues simultaneously.

Hair Shrinkage and Loss of Length Due to Tangling

Well, hold on, because there is an option! Do you know what it is? If you guessed hair oil then you would be absolutely correct. Now allow us to quickly tell you why.

First off, what exactly is shrinkage? This is the result of the hair drawing up due to the inability to maintain moisture. The strand can literally “chase” after hydration.

You see as the hair dries it normally dries at the ends first. Meaning our roots dry slower than our strands’ ends. As the hair dries it “draws up” in order to get closer to the moisture still present at the roots.

Get the picture? If you do, then most likely you can also glean a fix to this common hair problem. Nevertheless, if you don’t we’re going to tell you the secret anyway.

Combating Hair Shrinkage and Loss of Length

One the simplest ways to retain moisture in the hair is to seal it in so that it can’t escape. So then, what is a proper sealant? Here is the best hair oil that accomplishes this with ease.

The oil acts like a fence that moisture can’t get over. As we like to say think of it like a puppy and a high barrier. Everything stays nicely and safely inside.

Since moisture can stay along the entire strand the hair does not need to necessarily draw up towards any hydration. Plus, hair oil or creams add more weight to strands. This allows gravity to also do it’s job to keep tresses going downward than up.

Fixing Loss of Length Due to Tangling

So then, now that the cat is out of the bag on how to combat shrinkage. You may be wondering about the second half of this article’s title. How does shrinkage play into tangling?

Simple. Shrinkage causes knots and tangles. The more coil-y the texture, the higher the shrinkage and in turn opportunity for more tangles to be formed.

Nonetheless, hair does not have to be curly or wavy to hair issues with tangling. Straighter textures can also be affected by this issue. Also, dry hair can cause split ends and knotting at the ends. By the way, that is a good indicator that your hair can use a trim; if hair ends can not be combed or passed through with fingers easily.

The best way to fix this? You guessed it, hair oil. You’re a quick study! (wink, wink).

Hair Oil- Combating Hair Shrinkage and Loss of Length Due to Tangling

Nevertheless, the easiest way to detangle tresses while preventing shrinkage is to apply coconut or jojoba oil (or both together) to your hair. Heat the oil(s) up and apply the warm concoction to your strands and scalp. Then use your fingers to gently detangle any knots.

You will find the oil will provide a nice element of “slip” to your tresses. Thus, making detangling not only easier, but less of a pain. Literally.

In order to gain the most benefits, hair oil should be used in conjunction with your other styling products. If you use creams, leave-ins and the like, continue to. Moreover, cream moisturizers should be apart of your hair shrinkage arsenal. When these are used along with oil not only are curls/waves more defined, but will experience less draw up.

So then, there you have it. You CAN combat shrinkage as well as tangles. The fix is natural and extremely useful… hair oil.

The ad campaign pictures the star-studded squad in a tennis setting. Relaxing, chilling and of course toasting to the good life. Diddy is certainly a masterful genius in the realm of marketing. Putting on artists while showcasing his very own product. Thus, only proving that the music industry and its influence is still a powerhouse when it comes to making sales.

1966 Magazine: Tiffany, we think what you are doing for black girls and women is nothing short of amazing! Please tell us what exactly is the purpose of Nubian Stories Night Out (NSNO)?

Tiffany Dames: NSNO curates events for young Black professionals; and advocates for Black Women through entrepreneurship, comradery, and artistry. The past several months, I’ve curated an array of events, including a Fitness Bootcamp, Pop Up Dinner, an all-Black Women Art Expo, and on April 8th I will be hosting a Golden Parachute Black Business Mixer. Each of my previous events has gradually grown, creating a following that I strive to continue to create enjoyable experiences for.

Nubian Stories Night Out – Why Get Involved ASAP!

1966 Magazine: Very nice! Why do feel that networking events are so important for black women entrepreneurs to be apart of regularly?

Tiffany Dames: According to Fortune Magazine, “The number of businesses owned by African American women grew 322% since 1997, making black females the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in the U.S.” — This shows that plenty of us know exactly what we’re doing. However, there are even more Black women who want to make that step into entrepreneurship but cannot overcome one obstacle. Fear.

The fear of uncertainty can be debilitating. So much so, it stops us from even trying. We plan our failure more than we plan our success. Nubian Shorties Night Out strives to ease that fear by curating these events allowing us to come together, to network and build upon community economics.

1966 Magazine: Now that’s what we are talking about! So then, what’s next for NSNO?

Tiffany Dames: On April 8th our next event, entitled Nubian Shorties Night Out Presents…Golden Parachute Black Business Mixer. The goal is to create a space that gives Black entrepreneurs a chance to form an economic family, by building a set of connections to network and utilize for the promotion of their industry.

[Also] by continuing to curate events that promote and hire Black owned businesses, this offers assistance to budding entrepreneurs in building a successful brand and business. Essentially creating our own Golden Parachute to fall back on.

Nubian Stories Night Out – The Last Word

We love that Tiffany mentions the “golden parachute.” This term refers to the payment that high level executives receive upon termination. It ensures that they will be properly compensated regardless of what may happen or occur in the future.

Wouldn’t that be wonderful if that could be experienced in the black community as a whole? By networking and continuing to build together a safety net can begin to be formed.

“Yeah so I was at mom’s place and came across these old photos of my pops and granny. Let me just say they are the reasons why I am the professional Hairstylist I am today. They were driven. They were innovative. They had growing hands.

They had knowledge. Skills. Spiritual. They were creative. They were hungry. They were determined.

They had strength during times when we (you know what I mean) weren’t acknowledged for our talents and creations but set pride aside and did what needed to be done to support their family. And honey child I am here to say I got all that in my DNA. 3 generations… different eras.. similar challenges; [and] all good people. I wish they were here today so I could thank them at least; for passing it down to me. Forever grateful.”

Last thing we wanted to know was Mason’s thoughts on the long held black hair question, “What really does it mean to have ‘natural’ hair?” There are so many opinions out there. However, many do not realize being natural does not necessarily refer to hair being curly or coily.

Therefore, this subject is something we felt a professional view would be cool to have. So then, what does hair stylist, Rachel Mason have to say about it? Rachel states,

“Okay, so I want to make clear what going natural means. It means cutting out any and all chemical services to your hair. No color. No highlights. No relaxers. No perms. Virgin hair.

Easy enough right? I mentioned previously that I was going natural. I am. I am just going through something called a transition stage. You can cut it all off and rock a cute fade if it fits you to do so; rock a TWA or just cut the hair that is chemically treated and start there.

This is MY transition look and I chose to gradually go natural. I like to curl it, press it out or set it on some rods. I personally like the ability to change my hair when I feel like it and not be stuck with one look. I used to be like that once upon a time.

[However] very soon I will be completely natural, free of chemical or have virgin hair. But don’t be surprised if you see some color later down the line for summer! Here’s the thing ladies if you want to do it, do it! Make sure you do it for you and do it right. From the spell-binding couture to the equally visually pleasing venues, the luxury fashion label knows how to leave its fashion show attendees aching for more! For the Chanel Winter 2018 -2019 collection, Karl Lagerfeld enchanted his audience with luxe woven garments set against a forest backdrop.

Why is this show in particular making waves throughout the industry? Well, during fashion week you expect at least three things. A catwalk, glorious designs and a magnificent show. Chanel did all three with stylish hands tied in back.

In answering the long held question what would you take with you if you were stranded in a desert or forest; Chanel’s winter show made the answer abundantly clear… any of their fashions! Chanel’s dazzling designs cast their spell with a color palette that lines up perfectly with the fall and winter seasons. We observe stylish tops, skirts, jackets and accessories all peppered with tones reminiscent of the changing of the leaves’ colors during autumn.

The colors are warm yet sharp. Defined yet welcoming. Your eye is drawn in immediately but is able to take in every look’s detail in it’s entirety.

Chanel Winter 2018 Fashion Show

Your outfit may be the cake, but a proper handbag is the cherry on top! Chanel’s Winter 2018 handbags are trendy with an original edge. There are big bags, small bags, crossovers and of course, totes.

One element we love is the matchy-matchy look. Several handbags were twinning with their accompanying ensembles. Literally, tweed met tweed and hues met the exact same color(s). Whatever fabric was used to craft a couture design that same high end material was used for the look’s very own handbag.

This is great for the person who enjoys a perfect match. Or for someone who may struggle with pairing accessories with their clothing. Either way, Chanel has things covered.

One other detail that is certainly worth mentioning before moving on is Chanel’s use of the double bag. Have you ever needed two bags just to carry your essentials for the day? Well, Chanel wants you to know you are not alone. During the fall/winter runway show a model hit the catwalk with not one bag, but two swinging from her shoulder.

One smaller shoulder handbag layered over a larger tote made up the completed look. While carrying two bags may not become the next big thing. It is fun to see a neat way on how to make this style dilemma work in the best way.

Chanel Winter 2018 Fashion Show – Accessories

Hair was kept simple but was embellished with luxe, crystallized hair accessories. Other outfit additions we noticed included scarves, leggings/tights, chain belts as well as logo/name earrings and necklaces. Moreover, with the earrings we noticed Chanel indulged in the super hot uneven earrings trend. To rock it all you have to do is wear two different size earrings. They match but one is always super longer than the other. Thus making the finished result stylish, yet dramatic.

Furthermore, gleaming details were not just noticed in the accessories. Various boots, tights and pants all had shimmery elements. Proving that winter fashion does not need to be drab like the season’s weather. You can easily spice things up by utilizing sparkle.

Lastly, one other piece we loved was the fingerless gloves! Very Material Girl meets punk. The fun gloves came in different lengths; both regular hand glove size as well as elbow length. Certainly, a design that easily garners attention without trying too hard.

In recent times there has been a little bit of backlash when it comes to product reviews and opinions. Much of the dismay has been caused by social media which has every famous face promising that the fountain of youth involves teas, waist trainers, teeth whitening kits and other products that have actually turned out to be ineffective. However, I have personally used Obsessed Hair Oil for months and I can absolutely confirm that the results are real and will help heal your hair!

Another icon is gone. Fashion visionary, Vale Hubert de Givenchy noted for dressing some of the world’s most famous women; passed away at age 91. Hubert’s designs were widely celebrated for not only their sophistication, but divine elegance.

The French luxury couture designer was born in 1927. In future years, the couturier would come to redefine the modern woman’s form of attire. Givenchy often referred to himself as “the eternal apprentice.” However, his masterful creations since the start of his fashion house in 1952; clearly demonstrated his true skill, talents and pure genius.

Furthermore, Givenchy truly understood the female form. His luxe and dazzling frocks always fit a woman’s body in the most desirable as well as alluring way. His motto? Hubert once said, “The dress must follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress.”

This understanding led to Givenchy being highly sought after by the Hollywood elite. As a result, Hubert dressed some of the most influential women of the 20th century. Ladies of Givenchy included Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy and Grace Kelly. Men too experienced the Givenchy treatment, such as the legendary David Bowie.

Hello Readers,

Like you, I am also deeply saddened by this unfortunate news regarding the great Hubert de Givenchy. Growing up, his designs were one of the first to make me want to shed my Tomboy ways and hop into a black dress!

I also remember fondly talking about the glamorous old Hollywood with my grandmother. Not just the bright lights, triple threat talent or fascinating productions; but the fashion! The undeniable breath-taking couture that was chic, high-end, mesmerizing yet sexy all in one.

It was my grandmother as well as my mother that exposed me to a few classic films that left me wishing I was old enough to have a credit card. Since if I had had one, a lot of the available funds would of went to Givenchy couture. Therefore, maybe it was a good idea that could not qualify (LOL).

Being a fan of the fashion house, I was moved to write this feature. Not just to tell the impact that Givenchy had on me, but the impact He and his label left on the world. Truly an industry leader that will be missed. Below you will find a complilation of a few of my favorite Givenchy moments of all time.
