Beauty Answer: We have said it once and we will say it again, don’t look at the brand or the fancy presentation; the real answers lie on the back of the packaging. Before purchasing any product always educate yourself with what is find inside a various product by perusing the ingredient list. There you will be able to look over the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to what you will be applying to your body on a regular basis.

When it comes to moisturizer and the same also holds true for lip balms avoid products containing petrolatum or mineral oil. These ingredients aid in trapping in moisture due to the occlusive barrier that they create on top of the skin. However, they do very little when it actually comes to skin penetration.

Skin that is already seriously dry or becoming parched needs ingredients that are going to seep in and really do some business. Look for products containing oil, hyaluronic acid as well as ceramindes which do not just rest on top, but penetrates skin giving it the real moisture it needs.

Hair Quickie: The songs Burn Baby Burn or Hot In Herre shouldn’t come to mind when its time to dry your locks. A major cause of blow dryer hair damage is simply because many women dry their while it is too wet. Straight out the shower or sink hair needs to go from sopping wet to more manageable if damage control is what you are after. Therefore, how dry should tresses be before you whip out the dryer to do battle?

Hair should be around 60 percent dry before going in with a heated styling tool. Super wet hair takes longer to dry and prolonged exposure to heat ups the chances of damage likely occurring. Always protect strands by aiming to absorb as much moisture as possible with soft towel (cotton t-shirt if available) and by applying a heat protectant product.

Yandy Smith Encourages Women to ‘Take the Challenge’ at the Mielle Organics Brand Ambassador Launch Event

Yandy Smith encourages attendees to be more conscious about the products they use on their hair.

VH1’s Yandy Smith hosted the Mielle Organics brand ambassador launch event at Deuces & the Diamond Club in Chicago. Over 200 guest attended the event which was MC’d by Bravo TV’s Africa Miranda and included style demos by Remy V Fab Style Ambassador Chris Curse and Stanford grad and natural hair products chemist, Erica Douglas a.k.a Sister Scientist .

The Mielle Organics mission to Empower, Excite and Educate was woven through the event. Africa Miranda engaged the crowd with social media trivia and giveaways and Sister Scientist presented a segment describing how chemicals affect African American hair and the importance of the ‘LCO’ method (liquid, cream, oil) to retain moisture and length. Smith, who made a grand entrance created a fan and media frenzy taking pictures and greeting several of the guests.

Smith attended the event with her daughter Skylar and husband Mendeeces and spoke to the audience describing her natural hair journey including battles with chemical relaxers and hair dyes. Showing off her natural hair free of extensions, Smith encouraged the guest to ‘Take the Challenge’ with Mielle Organics by committing to using natural hair products and being more conscious of lifestyle choices. Smith also spoke passionately about the importance of supporting women and African American owned business saying, “It’s so empowering for me to do business with and support someone who looks like me”.

Mielle Organics launched the ‘Take the Challenge’ initiative in 2014 and has gained a tremendous following of eager and savvy natural hair product consumers. BB creams are great for anyone who needs to speed up their beauty routines because you are able to moisturize and apply foundation all in one simple step. BB creams are easy to apply because they go on similarly to a regular face cream or lotion.

Believe it or not making your own BB cream at home is a piece of cake. BB Cream is literally just half foundation and half moisturizer. Therefore, mix equal parts of your favorite lotion as well as liquid foundation and you have your very own customized BB cream.

Bonus: If you enjoy rocking a more natural look BB creams give your skin a nice light, even coverage so that you look flawless minus the cake face factor.

We would like to welcome Deanna S. Reid back into the 1966 house as she introduces us to some more amazing fashions this time by Woman’s Touch Apparel. We had the amazing opportunity to interview Deanna and she spilled the deets on everything from photography to fashion. Enjoy and don’t forget to scroll to see more of her editorial look book.

1966: What was the inspiration or deciding factor that motivated you to enter the world of photography?

Deanna R.: My father bought me my first point and shoot camera when I was in middle school. I always snapped pictures with family and friends. In college, I bought my first professional camera and shot my best friend’s audition photos for America’s Next Top Model. From there I started learning the technical aspects of photography from other photographers and online tutorials.

1966: Have you always had a love or passion for taking photos?

Deanna R.: Photography has always been my passion but now it is my goal to pursue it. I’m at the point in my life where my passion for the work is undeniable. The urge to progress is constant.

1966: We absolutely love your fashion editorial pieces, are there any challenges to getting the perfect shot?

Deanna R.: The challenge is not finding the right shot. The challenge or rather the excitement is finding the connection to the subject that builds the momentum to the shots that we want. It’s a collaborative effort.

1966: We can’t get enough of the “Bad Gal” tee but what was your favorite fashion piece from the shoot?

Deanna R.: My favorite piece was the Bad Gal Crop Top Out of Africa Edition. The print is bold and fun!

1966: Lastly Deanna, if you could photograph any celebrity from now or the past, who would it be and why?

Deanna R.: Sorry I can’t choose one celebrity lol. I would do a collaborative shoot with Erykah Badu and Solange. They are beautiful women who embrace individuality and creativity in music and fashion.

Now for this next bit of information, don’t shoot us we are just the messenger. Several gals asked about those insanely cute pink and white robes the Vickie dolls were wearing backstage. Although they are not apart of the official 2015 Fashion Show Gear lineup there are quite a few lingerie looks that resemble the robes flair. If you missed seeing photos of this year’s robe selection here are a few pics to get you up to speed:

We scoured the Vickie site and the closest robe we could find to the supermodel show look is the Satin Kimono which retails for about $50.

Not bad if we may say so, plus come its Victoria’s Secret so no matter what you are going to look like the sexiest woman in the room!

Not going to lie this one kind of gives us the creeps, but many experts in the beauty industry are swearing by it. In a world where the fountain of youth seems to be elusive men and women are willing to try some pretty interesting tactics in order to remain looking young and fresh. Therefore, what is one of the newest natural remedies to hit the scene?

In the far east, snail facials are quickly becoming the hot treatment to book at a spa ASAP. In theory such a facial can do wonders for scars, burns, acne, stretch marks and gasp… aging! Some have even reported softer as well as firmer skin as a result of repeated visits.

If you are looking for a quick fix then this may not be the procedure for you because those who have enjoyed a snail facial report that results were seen gradually. So then, even though the benefits are not immediate if you are a patient sleeping beauty then you may just be awakened to gorgeous skin before you know it. However, how exactly can these snails produce so many benefits?

According to dermatologists when under stress snails exude a fluid that can plump, repair and rejuvenate skin. The slime produced by snails contains beneficial antioxidants and nutrients that get to work when applied to the skin. How to Condition Fine or Thin Hair

Hair Quickie: All hair is not created equal therefore you can not expect a particular hair technique to fit all either. For instance, just like texture black women have varying levels of thickness when it comes to their strands. Women with what is considered “thin” hair have often been told to only condition the ends of their tresses. This being because it was believed that ends tend to be drier thus needing more attention. Moreover, another reason is because the weight of the conditioner was thought to be too heavy and could weigh down the hair.

Nevertheless, the truth is that fine locks are very fragile and need the support of conditioner in order to avoid damage. Water only makes thinner hair more prone to breakage because hair can stretch up to 30% in length. Applying conditioner not just on the ends of strands but at the roots will help add moisture and give limp hair extra strength. If you are still afraid of product weighing your thin hair down too much stick to a light conditioner inside of a thicker cream or formula.
