1966 Magazine: Your watches are SO stylish and luxurious. They’re absolutely lovely! Tell us, what inspired or motivated you to start Chale Watches?

Theresa Djokoto: I started Chale Watches because of my entrepreneurial passion and my undying love for Africa. My father is African, and I have gone back to Ghana ever since I was a little girl. I wanted to express my heritage through the creation of the brand and the collections. I want the watches to celebrate, promote and unite Africans everywhere!

1966 Magazine: What will Kickstarter funds allow you to accomplish for your brand?

Theresa Djokoto: The funds that we raise through this Kickstarter campaign will allow us to start the production of the Tribesman Collection and fullfill all the orders that is coming in through the campaign. If we meet our goal, we are also planning an official launch of The Tribesman collection at Macy’s – Lennox Square in Atlanta in October.

1966 Magazine: Alright, there you have it everyone, time to get donating and tell a friends! Lastly, we love that you chose to use sustainable materials with your products; but why was it important for you to include such materials in your designs?

Theresa Djokoto: We as Africans have a history of being sustainable, also it is very important in this day and age to find new ways to sustain the eco-friendliness of our products and packaging due to the global challenges we collectively face. We want to be a part of the solution, not the problem.

You won’t even be able to finish typing it in before it pops up. Which means, there are a lot of beings out there who grew up; or still believe Missy got down in her music video for her single, The Rain, in a Hefty trash bag. But, did she?

Sorry the y’all, the myth is over. Like officially, officially over. For years, Elliott has done her best to let the people know the truth. However, the trash bag theory has always been able to live on.

Nevertheless, on Twitter a fan piped up about the “trash bag” fit and Missy actually answered! This is what occurred between the two:

Fan Tweet: “22 years later and I still don’t know why she was in a black trash bag but the song is still fire.”
