Bonus: We also enjoyed this hairstyle, an update to the blunt cut bob. India added a modern twist by affixing color to selected strands. Moreover, since the color remains just along the front it is a good choice if you do not want hair color all over. It is also a good addition if you want to add more edginess as well.

Bantu Knots- 8 Black Celebrities That Prove This Style Is Bomb

Bantu Knots-Black Celebrities That Prove This Style Is Bomb10

This year hair trends dipped back all the way into the decade that was the nineties. Bantu Knots reemerged as a stylish and high fashion hairstyle that was even spotted coming down a Marc Jacobs catwalk. Nevertheless, time seems to be the killer of most hair fads that find their way into the spotlight. For example, what happened to twisties that were worn at the crown or mini ponytails with most hair hanging down straight (google Aaliyah.)

Since cool hair seems to come and go it is quite the feat when one hairstyle seems to stand the test of time. When it comes to Bantu Knots numerous celebrities have worn this modern hairstyle and we would like to briefly pay homage. Here are 8 black celebrities who all prove why Bantu Knots are still the bomb.

How to Create Bantu Knots and Why!

How to Create Bantu Knots and Why

No, these are not mini-buns as some have began to refer to this hairstyle. What is shown in the various photos within this post is a natural black hairstyle that is known as Bantu Knots. How can you recreate this style and why might you want to wear it?

Let’s start with the latter portion of the above question first. Here is a quick stat that is proving that black women want to show off the true beauty of their locks. Sales for perms and relaxers are drastically declining as more and more women opt for healthier hair options. Chemicals used in those harmful relaxers have led to burns, unhealthy scalps and hair loss that for some have resulted in baldness.

Since more women are jumping on the natural bandwagon this means more natural hairstyles need to come to the fore. Bantu Knots are perfect for fun, causal outings and can even help you achieve a cute curl pattern without using heat by performing a twist out. Less heat can mean less damage for your precious tresses.

Or this.

Moreover, when styling this hairstyle you will be adding moisturizer/oils which will help give your hair the much needed hydration it needs. Black hair tends to be dry so it is essential to add moisture to your locks often. Doing so will encourage healthy hair growth and stronger hair.

Therefore, how can one design Bantu Knots? Now, for anyone girl who has ever attempted this hairstyle there is a trick to it. Watch the following video to see in real time how to get the Bantu Knot style easily and simply!

See it is not too bad right? Well, that is why even our little divas can use this style to their cute advantage too! This next video demonstrates how to create Bantu Knots using the double strand twist method. It is shown on a tiny cutie pie but really even us older gals can use this same technique.

That’s all she wrote! Have fun creating those mini-buns, oh we mean Bantu Knots (wink, wink)!

Locs of Love

Locs of Love

Many women who have decided to go “natural” often wonder what hairstyles are available to them that will make the transition more bearable. One style that can not be overlooked is locs aka dreadlocks. To get started with this hairstyle hair length does come into play. If your hair is longer you can incorporate more of a braided look. Moreover, if your tresses are rather short than it will be best to use single twists when fashioning your locs.

Now, just because you are going natural it does not mean that you will have absolutely no upkeep. We shall repeat that one more time LOL, there will be some maintenance involved even though this hairstyle is low key. Natural hair still needs attention and some tender loving care. Continue to wash and deep condition tresses when necessary. Also, apply a good hair oil to keep the scalp healthy and hair growing. Need some hair loc inspiration? Keep scrolling:

Hair of the Week: Alicia Keys “Halo” Crown Braid

Hair of the Week Alicia Keys Halo Crown Braid

We love a stylish braid because this hair look is so great for black hair. It serves as one of the protective hairstyles which means your strands will be protected from harm while fashioned in this style. For instance, your ends are safely tucked in keeping them from rubbing against something or the elements so that they do not fray or split.

Moreover, besides being deemed safe for tresses it is also versatile for day and nighttime wear. Hairstyles that can be worn day or night will save you time and much needed energy! Plus, if taken care of this particular style should last at least a few days before needing to be refreshed or restyled. Sweet!

We spotted Alicia Keys with her own version of the Halo aka crown braid. Alicia chose to have her crown braided and wrapped around down into a single braid. A great version in order to look like a laid back goddess.

So then, how do you make this style your own? Here are two great tutorials that will help you get the look!

Do you prefer to braid than twist to achieve this hair look? Then you will want to check out this one:

Okay, but what if you are horrible at twisting and braiding is like well, don’t even think about it LOL. There is an even EASIER way to get this look by using a braid extension. If you have two left hands so to speak then here is the simple way to create the crown dutch braid:

Braided Bangs

FKA Twigs is not the type of girl who is going to follow the crowd off of a style cliff. She goes her own way and makes her own fashionable path. We thought her braided bang look was quite fresh and a nice modernization of a retro Egyptian hair look.

Of course, not every woman is going to be comfortable with channeling Cleopatra or the trendy ladies of Moses’ day. However, if you are looking for a boisterous departure from the norm then the braided bang may be right up your alley.

Nevertheless, still want to take things up a notch further because braids are simply not enough? Be like FKA Twigs or the William sisters of old and incorporate some beads. Allow the bang to frame your face shape and keep them from becoming ratty by using a conditioner specifically designed for braid care and maintenance.

Hair Scene: Dreadlocks

Hair Scene Dreadlocks

We are absolutely in love with this hairstyle! We love the silky texture of the locks and how it was styled with some up and some down. The coiling on top as well as the nicely laid baby hairs make this hairstyle modern and youthful. As more and more women go natural it is always great to get inspired to try out new looks. This shows that dreadlocks can be quite a versatile hair look and can be changed up according to vibe or style.

We are envious of our girls and ladies with the fabulously full heads of hair! Natural hair is beautiful and can be styled to perfection. Moisture is the key to making your mane look healthy and keeping your curls looking pristine.
