The red look seen during an episode of HBO’s Insecure on Issa Rae is by South African couture label, Thebe Magugu. The brand is based in Johannesburg and took home the coveted LVMH Prize in 2019. A prize that was decided by a fabulous jury of creatives backing Dior, Berluti, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton and Loewe.

Rae’s look is from Magugu’s AW (autumn / winter) 2019 collection, aptly named, “African Studies.” The particular jacket in question is called the Safari Jacket; which was apart of the Red Off-Shoulder Safari Suit.

She acts, she’s funny, but even more refreshing she just keeps it real. At this year’s CFDA Awards which honored supermodel Naomi Campbell with the Fashion Icon Award; Issa Rae joked that she’s only stylish or fashionable when it’s convenient.

However, even someone with half an eyeball can take note of Issa Rae’s beauty and sophisticated style. From pant suits to glittering ensembles Issa rocks them all with superstar precision.

For instance, for her Cosmopolitan editorial spread, Issa Rae works the camera in a gown from a black owned and luxury fashion label, Cushnie et Ochs. More specifically, she wears the label’s Karina Dress. The mustard yellow gown is from the brand’s Pre-Fall 2018 collection. It currently retails for $1,395.

Furthermore, for her entire Cosmopolitan spread, the actress/host/producer wears a plethora of vibrant ensembles. Thus, demonstrating the trends and highly sought-after look of the season. Boisterous, bold, yet fun colors!

Confirmation Premiere Fashion Recap

From the first time it aired, ratings soared through the roof for Kerry Washington‘s hit television show Scandal. With so much weekly tea as well as twist and turns viewers could not seem to get enough of the racy show. Recently, Kerry has taken her talents and starred in yet another bewitching storyline for a biopic entitled, Confirmation. Confirmation is the real life story of Anita Hill, a woman who dared to give testimony regarding sexual harassment during the Senate confirmation/nomination hearings of Clarence Thomas. Last night, at the HBO Confirmation premiere several leading ladies of black Hollywood were in attendance.

Lets start with the lady of the hour, Kerry Washington. Washington stunned in a $4k floral frock by Dolce and Gabbana. Moreover, Washington took care of style business right down to the smallest of details. Her mani was in a gorge neutral shade. With such a bold ensemble it was nice to see a more muted nail look that would not compete in a negative way with the rest her look.

Next up, is the gorgeous Gabrielle Union! At the Confirmation premiere Gabby even got the chance to snap a quick photo with Washington on the red carpet. Union sprinkled her own dose of black girl magic with a dress by Marc Jacobs. We absolutely loved Gabrielle and Kerry’s updos for the evening. The face-framing pieces and flowing tendrils of strands gave their hair a very romantic feel.

Not last but very least, let’s talk Zendaya! What did Zendaya adorn herself with for the Confirmation premiere? Coleman slayed in a colorful garment made by designer Rani Zakhem. Her hair also had a romantic flair due to a deep middle part with cascading waves. Can you say perfection?
