Rihanna has been slaying from the music charts to the red carpet. In music, Rih’s Work single has stood atop of Billboard for an impressive six weeks! On top of that, it seems like fans cannot get enough of hearing Rihanna or seeing her. Youtube announced that Rihanna has just become the first female ever to have 20 million subscribers. All of these impressive records clearly indicate that Rihanna is killing the game. To honor and recognize the huge successes of the mega songstress, Black Girls Rock 2016 is presenting our favorite badgal, Rihanna, with the Rock Star Award.

For the one of the year’s biggest events celebrating the achievements of black girls, Rihanna dazzled in Miu Miu Fall 2016. Her hair was super glamorous with shiny, sleek tresses and a deep off-center part. Hair was effortlessly pulled back behind her ears. To add more drama, pearl and jewel encrusted hair accessories accompanied her hair look.

For a ensemble to be successful, overall harmony must exist. If pieces compete or clash, an outfit’s appeal can begin to diminish. We love how the hair accessories worn by Rihanna for Black Girls Rock 2016 matched the rest of her pieces including her clutch, rings as well as shoes. It is truly all about the details ladies, big and small.

Marc Jacobs A/W 16 Seductive Finger Waves

We are still lusting after the alluring hair seen at the Marc Jacobs A/W 16 fashion show. For the their strut down the catwalk model’s strands were fashioned into finger waves. It was enough to make any Flapper livid with jealousy.

The model’s hair were molded into different versions of the same style. Some ladies had ‘traditional’ wavy locks with all tresses up, while others had strands in the back left to hang loosely. We even noticed waves being created on very short natural hair. The common denominator was the sparkly glitter added throughout the hairstyle.

The marriage of vintage and modern clothing was beautiful. Finger waves are definitely a hairstyle that can not be ignored. Yet, the style added an edgy, goth sophistication to the overall look of the designs. All without stealing away the spotlight from the real stars… the couture.

The Marc Jacobs A/W 16 show was hauntingly gorgeous to say the very least. From the chime music to the fur, lace, glittering prints, big bows, feathers, long hand gloves, flowing gowns and metallic detailing our style cup runneth over! From the time she first made her appearance on the red carpet to her epic Golden Globes 2016 win (becoming the third African American woman to win a Golden Globe) Taraji P. Henson oozed Hollywood glamour! Literally, from her head down to her feet, Taraji’s ensemble easily made her a contender for Golden Globes 2016 Best Dressed. In the words of Beyonce, Henson looked absolutely ‘flawless.’

Now in our upcoming post and fashion recap of the 2016 Golden Globes we will get to the nitty gritty of the couture that made up Taraji’s look. Nevertheless, for just a moment can we make it clap for Henson’s hair? Short hair is already sassy, sexy and cool; case in point, Halle Berry yet Taraji added her own flavor.

For her big win Henson adorned her chic bob with some additional texture. Roughing strands up a little bit gave the hairstyle a modern, flirtatious feel. If you love to be bold in the hair department this is definitely the style for you!

Laura Govan always sets the standard when it comes to rocking a mean haircut. Govan once again does not disappoint in the hair department as she takes short hair up a level…literally. If you are worried about hair diversity when it comes to shorter lengths do not be dismayed from living out your hair dream. Whether long or short there numerous options for when you are feeling a little more creative.

If you follow Laura on Instagram (her profile can found by searching for @lauragovan) you will notice that she keeps her tresses seriously looped off. Moreover, we love pixie and cropped cuts on her because when you have such a beautiful face why hide behind it will loads of hair anyway? In a recent photoshoot lensed by photographer Erick Robinson (he’s on the gram as well as @imerickrobinson) Laura displays her fierce super high pompadour with sides fashioned in gorgeous finger waves.

Are you the type of hair-lista that loves to live on the edge? Has your hair seen more changes in color than the Care Bears rainbow? If so, you may just be a future candidate for The Undercut.

The Undercut is exactly what it sounds like when it comes to the look and feel of this black hairstyle. An undercut is where the back sections of your head/hairline is cut or buzzed very short. Some daring ladies even choose to the extend the look to include the sides of their head (think Rihanna).

We came across a few undercut styles on Instagram which reignited our love for the style, yet the one featured up top was our absolute favorite. The diagonal design and the purple hair color just sent us to the moon. Below you will find a little more inspiration that may just convince you to give this a look a try!

Hair Tips: Once you get an undercut done the compliments will roll on in, but the maintenance can be a headache without the right products. Hair never stops growing which means your hair is not going to stay looking perfectly cut. In between reshape hair cuts keep hairs slicked down and in place with gel or mousse. This will also help maintain the look until you can blend the hair together if you are over the undercut and growing out your hair.

Let’s start with the latter portion of the above question first. Here is a quick stat that is proving that black women want to show off the true beauty of their locks. Sales for perms and relaxers are drastically declining as more and more women opt for healthier hair options. Chemicals used in those harmful relaxers have led to burns, unhealthy scalps and hair loss that for some have resulted in baldness.

Since more women are jumping on the natural bandwagon this means more natural hairstyles need to come to the fore.
