Actress Naomie Harris is currently attending the 2017 Cannes Film Festival for her latest film, Ismael’s Ghost. For her big Cannes 2017 red carpet moment she wore a gown from the Gucci Fall 2016 collection.
Her take on the Gucci ensemble is different from the original design seen coming down the Gucci catwalk. Long gone is the one shoulder floral top. Naomie replaced it with a spaghetti strap bodice in matching striped colors. This change gave her OOTD more of a spring and summery vibe.
The last component of Naomie Harris’ Cannes outfit were accessories. She paired her bold gown with a beautiful, delicate necklace from Atelier Swarovski. A nice touch that grabs a little spotlight while keeping attention on the main garment.

Move over Zorro we have a new masked hero. Rihanna hit the 2017 Coachella scene in a fit straight from the Gucci Fall 2017 Menswear runway show. It had everything. Glitz, glamour and TONS of edginess. You know typical Rihanna appeal.
The singer sported Gucci’s infamous “Common Sense is Not That Common” tank top, distressed denim cut-off shorts as well as a sequined body suit. That last item is what got us. To wear a glittery body suit that also covers the face you have to have the presence and personality to pull it off. Rihanna did so without a hitch.
Furthermore, last year at Coachella Rihanna made us swoon over her Gucci sunglasses. You may remember the photos that emerged with her and actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Get ready for some love, peace and Soullllllllll! Gucci is taking it all the way back and making history with its newest advert. The Gucci Pre-Fall 2017 Ad Campaign features an all black cast of models for its throwback to retro soul. Let melanin reign, because this is definitely a glow up for diversity within the fashion realm.

Bust a move! In the states a popular television show highlighted the soul music movement of the 60s, 70s and beyond. Soul Train brought to the foreground black culture, black fashion, black music and of course dance. However, not to be forgotten is London’s very own soul scene. Gucci taps into the era’s essence of cool and fun while showcasing vintage inspired couture with a modern twist.
In regards to the inspiration behind the campaign Gucci states, “Presenting the Gucci Pre-Fall 2017 ad campaign referencing the spirit of England’s underground Northern Soul movement of the 60’s. Set in the rich and colorful dancehalls of the Mildmay Club in London. Athletic dance moves and exuberant social scenes photographed by Glen Luchford.”
The campaign certainly looks like tons of good times and vibes. The photographs as well as video captured literally transport you to the past and makes you crave to stay there. Plus, as mentioned it demonstrates the swift happening in the fashion as well as modeling industries.
For years many felt minorities could not “sale” an image or product; unlike like the usual beauty standard mostly seen throughout countless ads and editorials. However, it is refreshing to see Gucci as well as other fashion houses go against the grain to help break barriers and put such thinking to rest. Every race rocks and is certainly marketable. As a result, we do see more african, asian, indian and spanish models being booked, but there is always room for improvement.

So far the fashionable and energetic campaign is being well-received. We love it because we adore this particular era in time and wish we could plop ourselves right in the middle of all the action. We love to dance so this campaign makes us want to twirl, flip, kick and do the splits right along with the selected models. Furthermore, the fashions are vibrant and boisterous pairing nicely with the movements/poses of the models.
Two of the ladies who are apart of the campaign spoke out on how much they enjoyed being apart of the project. They said:

Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose amid a complex social and political landscape.”
Very refreshing. Nevertheless, what about the fashion world? Are they down with the greenery hue? Yes they are to the one thousandth power! Gucci helped usher in the greenery tint during their spring/summer collection. The tint was fresh and gave off a very modern and contemporary feel.
Moreover, designer Christian Siriano enjoys the use of the vibrant shade. Explaining why he adores it he says, “My love of any green color comes from the idea of bringing the outdoors inside.” Therefore, if you have ever wanted to marry your love of nature with couture here is your chance.
