Diet Your Way to Longer Hair

Diet Your Way to Longer Hair

Now just so we are all on the same page we are not talking about those fad or drastic diets that can be quite harmful to your health in the long run. Nevertheless, it has been shown that a diet incorporating nutrients and protein can improve the condition of the hair keeping follicles strong. Which is great news because remember less breakage means length will be retained. Most women believe that their hair is not growing when in fact it is always growing. The issue is that when hair is not healthy or it breaks any length achieved is not noticeable.

It is recommended to add omega-3 oils into your diet to help get you on the way to Repunzel tresses. Nuts, almonds, supplements and salmon can help strengthen strands. One last word on dieting, if you are trying to grow your hair avoid yo-yoing at ALL costs. Such extreme dieting can cause stress and effect hormone levels thus affecting your hair.

Hair Wars: Solange Versus Eva

image

Today’s battle is between two ladies who are no strangers to the short hair club. The hairstyle we are throwing into the ring of tress fire is The Crop. Solange Knowles’ version was a nice twist thanks to her showcasing her natural curls. However, Eva Marcille still takes some swings due to her daring platinum blonde hair color.

Therefore, who wins this hair war? Well, as always it was a tough choice that came down to one vote of a staff member. The winner is Eva for her hair color bravery!

Who do you think the winner should be?

Hair Scene: Dreadlocks

Hair Scene Dreadlocks

We are absolutely in love with this hairstyle! We love the silky texture of the locks and how it was styled with some up and some down. The coiling on top as well as the nicely laid baby hairs make this hairstyle modern and youthful. As more and more women go natural it is always great to get inspired to try out new looks. This shows that dreadlocks can be quite a versatile hair look and can be changed up according to vibe or style.

Hair Journey: Black Hair Doesn’t Grow

Hair Journey Black Hair Doesn't Grow

The one thing as a young black woman that you have probably heard or are currently hearing is… don’t cut your hair, it may not grow back. It is a wide spread notion that black hair simply does not grow or if you do have length and you lose it that its gone forever. There is one thing that I have discovered throughout my continuous hair journey and that is everything you know about black hair is a myth.

You don’t need a perm or chemicals to control your tresses. It is not necessary to do a big chop when growing out a relaxer. Moreover, if you want longer hair it is achievable. Black hair DOES grow and it IS amazing and gorgeous.

I have grown my hair out four times, down to my waist. From my YouTube videos many have asked me how I did it and I am happy to share tips I have picked up that may work for you too. I think thanks to the creation of social platforms black girls are finally able to gain knowledge on how to really work their beautiful strands. Knowledge is power and the more we share with each other the more growth we will experience in not just our hair but in all aspects of life.

Thoughts? I’m always all ears:)

Love,

Arianne

Hair of the Week: Zendaya Coleman at 2015 Radio Disney Music Awards

Zendaya Coleman at 2015 Radio Disney Music Awards

Zendaya looked like an exotic Repunzel walking the red carpet at this year’s Radio Disney Music Awards. The starlet rocked hair down-to-there in soft lush waves that looked like she had just emerged from the ocean waters like Ariel. Alright, alright enough with the fairy tale references, it’s the Radio Disney Music Awards we couldn’t help it! Nevertheless, we digress…we loved Zendaya’s beachy waves and hope that she keeps this look.

How Fast Does Hair Really Grow?

How Fast Does Hair Really Grow

On average hair researchers have discovered that hair grows about half a millimeter per day. This means over the course of one year strands can grow a total of 6 inches or half a foot. Nevertheless, other factors do affect hair growth including but not limited to: genetics, age, pregnancy and hormones. Knowing the average will help keep hair growth in the right perspective without it becoming a discouraging process. Hair is continuously growing and with proper haircare techniques your strands will keep growing in the direction you want them to… down south.
