This year’s hairdos spotted at the 2016 Met Gala were just as exciting as the fashions that accompanied them. It wasn’t just about length or whether strands were up or down. There was one trend in particular that seemed to take the cake among the stars.

Hair color, hair color, hair color and say it with us, hair color! The 2016 Met Gala saw a wide range of hues. The varied looks included all ends of the spectrum. From platinum to rich deep, reddish plums. Highlights were also big on the 2016 Met Gala red carpet. However, enough yapping right? Here is quick breakdown of all the various hairstyles that revived our 2016 Met Gala Hair of the Week Award!

Amandla Stenberg

She literally allowed her hair to be her crown of glory. We absolutely adored her gold hair accessory.

Cynthia Bailey

After the show is the after-party! Reality starlet and model Cynthia Bailey hit the 2016 Met Gala after parties with a voluminous curly fro accented with a crown braid.

FKA Twigs

Here’s how to give those French braids a twist… literally. Twigs wore a braided updo that twisted at the nape up to about center. The look also incorporated hair jewelry that seamlessly went with her designer gown.

Beyoncé

Many could not simply take their eyes off Bey’s backside. We couldn’t either… her sleek tresses with the blonde hair color and highlights were seriously on point!

Zendaya Coleman

This is so modish and elegant we can’t stop staring. This cut is all about precision and execution. If you were born with retro and vintage vibes running through your veins you just gazed upon your new hairstyle.

Kerry Washington

She may have been wearing all black but Kerry’s hair was all types of bold. There was nothing subtle about her hair color that complimented her loose waves. If you’re going to the attend the Met Ball you might as well go all out or just stay home.

Jourdan Dunn

She had us at asymmetrical hair cut. Dunn’s Bob was pure perfection and only seemed to become more stunning from every angle. Moreover, the gray hue with dark roots was just killer.

Nicki Minaj

Her expertly placed platinum hair color showed true craftsmanship. Take note how the color extended all the way to the very tips. Bravo colorist, bravo.

Ciara

She’s currently working on a new album so why not a new hairstyle? CiCi came to slay with vintage waves and metallic silver strands.

Lupita Nyong’o

One of the most talked about hairstyles of the 2016 Met Gala outside of Ciara came via Lupita Nyong’o. Lupita took natural hair to new heights with a five tier updo.

Looking fabulous and growing your hair in 2016 has never been easier! If your hair is your crown of glory all you need to do is indulge in a sleek 2016 black hair trend to look effortlessly stylish. Recently, one major style was spotted on three glamorous starlets: Zendaya, Tika Sumpter and Aja King.

Zendaya, Tika Sumpter and Aja King enjoyed a luncheon together hosted by Zendaya herself and Glamour mag. The dynamic trio all wore the 2016 black hair trend gorgeously and as if they had sent out a memo to each other first! Whether by intention or not all stunning ladies came rocking sleek braids.

In the past braided trends included a looser feel. However, 2016 braids are all about precision. Neat and sleek execution is what’s trending.

Moreover, braids can be tailored and altered to fit various couture looks as well as personal taste flawlessly. We loved the halo crown variations just as much as Zendaya’s cornrows. Nevertheless, if longer hair is your end hair game then this trend is the way to go!

Will this 2016 black hair trend really aid in achieving hair growth? The word “aid” is truly the answer to this popular question. Braids are excellent for hair retention. Your hair is growing at a steady rate but you may not see much growth due to hair damage factors. Hair breakage from styling or split ends for instance can cause strands to become shorter. 2016 Coachella Hair and Style Recap

Music festival season always bring out the best in hair and style trends. During this past weekend the 2016 Coachella crowd proved the truthfulness of this stylish fact. We spotted so many starlets that we try our best to highlight as many fabulous looks as possible. Kick off those heels, relax and enjoy our 2016 Coachella hair and style recap!

Chanel Iman: With her twisted back flowing locks of hair, one of her several looks had us in designer heaven. She wore Roberto Cavalli snake print pants, Stevie Chiffon Wrap Top by Stoned Immaculate, Isabel Murant suede ankle boots and belt by Child of Wild. Oh baby!

Chanel was also spotted with actress Vanessa Hudgens having fun with Forever 21.

Jasmine Tookes: The 90’s were definitely back with Tookes rocking short-shorts, tied up shirt and a choker. Besides her great fashion we took note of her hair. She wore her hair nice and chic in a hat as well scarf. Work!

Ugh… so supermodel fab! The scarf look is great for those pesky spring and summer bad hair days.

Kat Graham: Hats and Coachella are like peas and carrots. They just go together. Kat joined the hat game as she wore a black number with her floral frock. Simple, cute and totally nailing 2016 Coachella vibes!

Jhene Aiko & Karreuche Tran: These two lovelies shall haunt our Snapchat dreams…and we’re absolutely okay with that. Thanks to a deep side part and platinum hair color these two dolls had our focus on their tresses just as much as their gorgeous faces.

Amandla Stenberg: Can this girl get any cooler? Amandla always leads the pack when it comes to trendy natural hairstyles. For Coachella the cutie pie made us swoon over twisted knots. Moreover, Stenberg perfectly demonstrated how to were accessories without them overpowering each other. She wore hoop earrings, septum ring and a choker. Nicely done!

VicStyles & Justine Skye: These two can definitely hold their own when it comes to style. Nonetheless, we matched up together because they were part of the 2016 Coachella “Braid-y Bunch.” Same hairstyle just with their own finesse. Justine adorned her’s with interlocking ribbons and VicStyles slayed with an edgy, sophisticated hat.

Hair of the Week: Ciara’s Voluminous Waves Announcing BBMAs!

Ciara’s hair this week made us want to get up and one, two step! Her tresses looked like they belonged in the grand state of Texas where everything is bigger. Ciara’s gorgeous voluminous waves spotted in NYC was quite fitting for the humongous news she had in her possession for this year’s BBMAs!

The BBMAs better known as the Billboard Music Awards are fast approaching in order to honor the best of the best in music. Ciara was on hand with hip hop artist Ludacris in New York City to announce this year’s nominees. However, the announcement would not be the only time we see this dynamic duo together in 2016. Ciara and Ludacris will be the hosts of the 2016 BBMAs next month!

This will not be Ludacris’ first stab at hosting one of the year’s hottest musical events. Like the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls Ludacris will 3-peat this year. So then, let us give a quick round of applause to Luda for scoring yet another hosting spot on the BBMAs.

Luda and CiCi make a great pairing for the show. They already have a smash hit under their belts due to working together. If the song Ride It came to mind go ahead and brush your shoulder off. You sir/ma’am are a music “G.”

Before this post closes let’s get back to that hair! Ciara scores our Hair of the Week award due to sheer volume alone. For weeks Ciara has rocked braids, updos and mostly very loose hanging waves. However, CiCi changed up her hair game by letting out her inner diva. She is serving us Diana Ross glamour. Moreover, the deep middle part gives her locks even more sleek attitude. We love it and hope to see more of it.

Congratulations to all of this year’s musical nominees. You can catch this year’s BBMAs hosted by Ciara and Ludacris on May 22nd. The show will air live on ABC network at 8/7c.

Rihanna has been slaying from the music charts to the red carpet. In music, Rih’s Work single has stood atop of Billboard for an impressive six weeks! On top of that, it seems like fans cannot get enough of hearing Rihanna or seeing her. Youtube announced that Rihanna has just become the first female ever to have 20 million subscribers. All of these impressive records clearly indicate that Rihanna is killing the game. To honor and recognize the huge successes of the mega songstress, Black Girls Rock 2016 is presenting our favorite badgal, Rihanna, with the Rock Star Award.

For the one of the year’s biggest events celebrating the achievements of black girls, Rihanna dazzled in Miu Miu Fall 2016. Her hair was super glamorous with shiny, sleek tresses and a deep off-center part. Hair was effortlessly pulled back behind her ears. To add more drama, pearl and jewel encrusted hair accessories accompanied her hair look.

For a ensemble to be successful, overall harmony must exist. If pieces compete or clash, an outfit’s appeal can begin to diminish. We love how the hair accessories worn by Rihanna for Black Girls Rock 2016 matched the rest of her pieces including her clutch, rings as well as shoes. Many naturalistas must always think, ‘Duh’ any time someone mentions the word conditioner. However, it is as true now as it was the first time anyone said it. The longer the strand the longer it takes for natural oils to travel from the scalp to the end of a strand. The same is true of curly hair. The tighter the curl the longer it will take for oils to reach the ends. Any girl who has ever dealt with “shrinkage” knows this to be true. Often times the lower parts of your hair nearer to the ends tend to look more worn or dry due to this travel time. Therefore, give your strands a helping hand and saturate your hair with conditioner in order to moisturize and protect every one of your hard-earned inches of natural hair.

Whenever a celebrity changes up their hair game the world takes notice! Tyra Banks dreadlocks has had social media in an uproar for the past couple weeks and we are still loving it! It is definitely a different hairstyle for the supermodel but it is gorgeous!
