Allure’s April issue is absolutely amazing, but then the question can be begged, why create such an journal centered on diversity? What served as their motivation or inspiration behind this issue? Allure explains:

“Our skin is so much more than a reflection in the mirror. Our skin is a metaphor that defines how we are seen and how we see ourselves. For our April 2017 issue (featuring models Dilone, Imaan Hamman and Aamito Lagum on the cover!), [we] asked 41 women of color to tell us the story of their lives through their skin and skin tone. Because our skin can be both a vulnerability and a defense. But most importantly, it can be a source of celebration.”

Solange has definitely come into her own as an artist and it is great to see more and more embracing her vibes. Moreover, for years we have felt she is also underrated when it comes to being a style risk taker. She’s not afraid to try anything and is always fun to see on a red carpet. For these reasons and more Solange makes and deserves to be the fabulous cover girl she is!

For the March edition of ELLE Solange talks about a little bit of everything. She dives into music, love, her ambitions, art and her huge 2016 album. Regarding creating her wildly successful music she stated,

“Writing felt like this insular thing that I could go back in my room and express all that I would observe. [Also] all the emotions that would arise. It felt like mine, my little thing.”

Salamishah Tillet who is a scholar, professor at the University of Pennsylvania and activist shared thoughts on Solange. Inside the March issue Tillet gives her views regarding A Seat at the Table. She says,

“A Seat at the Table boldly channels the contradictions of our moment. The stew of pride, disappointment, vulnerability, and anger that African Americans are experiencing. In an era marked as much by the election of our first black president as the murder of young black people.

[Nevertheless] the record is sweeping in its reckoning with the nation’s vexed racial past and present. Furthermore its intimate and unexpectedly gentle.”

Jasmine Tookes will be featured in the ELLE USA January 2017 edition. Back in the day fashion lovers would say that a model should be able to sport a potato sack and still look fabulous. Well, Jasmine is rocking just a bag so in our book that is pretty darn close to that level of fab perfection.

In the 28 Stories feature Tookes literally takes the expression “go big or go home” to new heights. Think glowing, luminous skin accompanied by humongous accessories. Big hair, big earrings and one big ole handbag. Genius! Her supersize linked earrings are by designer, Sonia Boyajian. Also, that fabulous orange bag which is the new black is from high-end brand, Balenciaga.

The entire ELLE January 2017 issue was shot by Terry Tsiolis. In addition to makeup by Frankie Boyd, styling by Samira Nasr and Paul Cavaco with hair by Romina Manenti. Furthermore, the 28 Stories editorial also includes several other amazing shots with Selah Marley, model Alecia Morais as well as the talented Coleman Collective. Baby it’s cold outside, so let Keke Palmer warm things up a bit for you! The Keke Palmer Stars in Galore x Missguided Editorial gives new meaning to the expression Lady in Red. From crop tops to floor length gowns Palmer wears them all. Also, you will be happy to know that the red hair is still alive and well.

Furthermore, we also got a kick out of the additional artistic element. The photos incorporate cutesy graffiti backgrounds that includes hearts, wings, bubble words, crowns, kisses and stars. It reminded us of being in class doodling on our notebooks and yearbooks. The art for the editorial was created by Kayla Soler. She speaks her mind confidently and stands up for herself as well as her culture with grace. In the January edition of Allure Zendaya tackles the importance of being yourself even in a fashion sense.

If I didn’t dress the way I dress or wear my hair the way I wanted to because people told me that they didn’t like it, I would be boring. She is deemed a fashion icon and has even surpassed MJ on the charts when it comes to number ones. If she can achieve being one of the last musicians of her “time” to still be relevant over a decade later. Rihanna can definitely be the last woman standing here on earth.
