We were beyond excited to hear news of the Kelly Rowland makeup line! Kelly has always been such a beauty, so then it makes sense that she would want to spread her wings within the cosmetics industry. What is even more fabulous about the announcement is that the Kelly Rowland Makeup Line will also cater to those rocking with a little more melanin.
Being a gorgeous chocolate girl herself we are sure Rowland will be able to develop a collection that will be well-suited for ebony girls. Foundation and the like can easily become a headache when searching for a perfect tone match. Many makeup companies do not create tints that go deep enough to look natural and give off a seamless finish.
Nevertheless, who can forget the black supermodels who have come forward to say that MUAs (makeup artists) working designer shows did not have makeup on hand in order to make them up for the catwalk. Many of these very models have had to bring their own foundation just to get ready backstage. If the fashion industry can not meet the needs of dark skin women, who could?
Well, fortunately throughout the years women of color have spearheaded the movement that WE have to be the ones to change things for the better. Fashion icon, Iman, had to face the lack of cosmetics issue at photo shoots and runway shows during her era as well. These experiences inspired her to develop her own makeup collection for women of color. Kelly Rowland says Iman has inspired her to do the same. Rowland declared,
“My makeup artist Sheika Daley and I are actually starting a makeup line we’re making sure we make, well we’re starting off with lashes and then we’re going to have it grow for all women. But definitely making sure we have our chocolate girls covered. Gotta get the chocolate girls in there! We have to have that, you know. I think Iman has done a beautiful makeup line and I want to do it too!”
Yes, just as in the hair industry as more black girls make the move to design products by us and for us our needs from beauty to couture are sure to be met. Speaking of beauty, be sure to browse and shop our online 1966 Beauty Store! We have worked hard to bring you a comprehensive store that will include the best products for black hair and black beauty. Check it out and be sure to tell us what you think!

Vogue mag threw a star-studded beauty event in order to celebrate the Covergirl x Empire Collection. The makeup brand’s collaboration with the hit television show will allow ladies to add Empire inspired cosmetics to their beauty bags. More collection details will be released simultaneously with Empire’s return on March 30th.
All day Empire fans have been salivating over the news of the release. By the looks of things Covergirl is cornering an untapped market and will be met with success. A few comments we noticed on social media platforms in regards to the collection were:
“I know it’s just Covergirl but you know I love me some Empire! Hope we get this in Ulta!”
“I can’t wait!”
“Yasssssssss!”
“BRILLIANT! So much diversity! Love it!”
“Slaying my life!”
As you can see, to say that fans are excited about the Covergirl x Empire Collection would be an understatement. Nevertheless, one burning question did come to the fore. Where in the world is Cookie? Lyons seems to be clearly missing from the ad campaign. We will definitely be on the lookout for answers to that mystery.
Nonetheless, as mentioned Vogue held a soirée for the Covergirl x Empire Collection. Supermodel Lais Ribiero attended looking as stunning as ever! Lais wore an all black Phillip Lim ensemble with jewelry by Jennifer Fisher.
Empire actress Serayah also rolled through with a smoky eye beauty look that could bring any man to his knees. Serayah is thrilled about the Covergirl collab and took to IG to express to fans just how she felt. She said,
“Such a dream come true, the little girl came out in me last night. Thank you so much. Covergirl, Vogue #Empire.”
Yes, many young girls dream of modeling within the pages of a major magazine or being the face of a brand. It looks like for a few talented actresses the dream has become a reality. Congrats to the ladies of Empire and we can’t wait to try out the collection!

The 2016 Fashion LA Awards was seriously PACKED with tons of star power. From Kanye, who recently admitted to being a Bieber fan to Nick Jonas we had many reasons to be Jealous. Nevertheless, we sucked up our style pride and feasted our eyes on two beauties who literally brought it and then some! Ciara and Karreuche Tran shut it down in all black and white attire.
We will begin with the lovely Ciara who attended the Beverly Hills event with her new fiancé Russell Wilson who wasn’t too shabby himself! Ciara dazzled at the Fashion LA Awards in a black gown by Alexandre Vauthier. Ciara and her beau proved that the couple that looks chic together stays together!
Alright, on to another one of our favorite style killers, Karreuche Tran. Flash tattoo designer Karreuche showed some skin in a two piece ensemble by Open Ceremony. We loved the addition of the gold cuff which gave her look an even more luxe vibe.
Believe it or not fashion friends but this look by Tran for the 2016 Fashion LA Awards almost didn’t occur! Tran’s stylist, Bryon Javar, revealed via Instagram that Karreuche’s look was changed just hours before the carpet and a new seamstress needed to be located after a cancellation. Javar worked his magic and got a seamstress and was able to send out Karreuche in her white goddess couture paired with shoes by Azzedine Alaia.
Javar sounds like the type guy you’d want around in a fashion pinch! Karreuche is a lucky gal to have such an amazing team and they definitely created style magic last night. However, Ciara and Karreuche have more in common then just great fashion, more on that in our upcoming hair post!

The weather here in California has been sporadic to say the very least. In the land where the sun is supposed to shine 24/7 things have been less than ideal to the typical Los Angeles native. Temps go up just as fast as they seem to go down. We’ll blame it on El Niño this year and keep it rolling. Nevertheless, to combat the cool weather foe we recommend Tart Collections Rella Coat.
Being Instagram dwellers we spotted the chic coat on Jasmine Sanders aka Golden Barbie. Jasmine wore the Tart Collections Rella Coat in Blush (pink) for a red carpet event and also took one slaying selfie in it. Sanders loves her coat and so do we!
Want to get your hands on this stylish furry little number? Well, gals you are in luck because the Rella just went on sale! Retail price for the coat is now under $200. So then, for a tiny splurge you can look like a fabulous supermodel too.

We recently spotted an interesting beauty trend fresh from the runway. This particular beauty look proves that sometimes it is the most simple makeup that can have the most dramatic effect. Simplicity is defined as freedom from complexity, intricacy, or division into parts. Case in point, the graphic lines eye makeup look created by Diane Kendal for Akris Fall/Winter 2016-2017 fashion show.
Models were treated to a futuristic beauty look that incorporated distinct and precise lines. The graphic lines eye makeup looks varied with some lines floating right above the lids, while others completely surrounded and sectioned off the eye by following the bridge of the nose on up right below the eyebrow.
Can this look translate into everyday wear? Of course, runway shows always have a bit of fantasy attached to them, however, just like the fashions themselves the beauty aspects can be toned down for ready-to-wear options too. We suggest sticking to the single line right below the brows. This eye makeup may not be appropriate for school or work, but is perfect for a night out with friends.

Got head full of dull, lifeless looking strands? Do not fear a natural egg and banana hair treatment is here! Eggs and bananas are two wonderful foods that are actually great for your hair too. Why are they so effective?
Bananas being rich in potassium can restore elasticity, add strength and minimize breakage. Moreover, bananas can hydrate strands thus keeping dry, flaky scalp issues at bay. Eggs can also cure dandruff and help make hair stronger. This is because strands are composed of seventy percent protein (keratin) just like eggs. Therefore, introducing more protein into the mix can give hair the conditioning it really needs. The protein, fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants found in eggs takes brittle tresses and makes roots as well as follicles stronger.
The Egg and Banana Hair Treatment
Combine one mashed up banana with one egg.
Mix together yet keep the mixture thick.
Apply the egg and banana paste to strands and let it sit for fifteen to thirty minutes.
Wash and condition hair as usual.

Caring for natural hair can be a challenge due to the fact that some “natural” products contain harmful ingredients. Moreover, wearing natural hairstyles often include using a number of styling and conditioning products. All that layering of products can attribute to build up. Clarifying shampoo can help to remove build up from your strands. So then, knowing how to make your own Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying Shampoo can go a long way.
Are there any other reasons to use a natural shampoo option? Watch those labels ladies because not all natural hair products are what they seem or claim to be. For instance, a shampoo may include natural plant ingredients but still have sulfates. Sulfates give us those fun suds that make us feel our tresses must be getting clean. Nevertheless, sulfates have the ability to strip hair of needed moisture.
The goal should be to have a product that gets the job done and safely. How can you create your own Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying Shampoo at home? It is very simple all you will need is water and organic apple cider vinegar.
Combine one cup of water with 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar. After the cleanse, follow up with your normal conditioner. Your locks will be build up free and looking fabulous!

It is almost that time of the year! Spring is quickly approaching and so is it’s hottest trends. Jumpsuits are perfect for spring due to the fact that they can be easily adjusted for the weather. Just a coat or cardigan can be added for additional warmth, if necessary.
Our Style Ambassador Carly shows us the ropes on how to make jumpsuits chic for spring. Carly says,
“And about what I am wearing… it is plain yet simple. Mainly my ensemble includes just a printed jumpsuit. I love jumpsuits because they are very freeing, I can move in them more like if it was a dress. So comfortable because the material is light.”
Jumpsuits are quite comfortable and can be worn during day time or at night. So if you are looking for something versatile this needs to be in your wardrobe. Nevertheless, what was Carly’s inspiration advice for this month? She stated,
“Be your own role model and learn to inspire yourself. Look back at what you did yesterday and learn from it n do it better today. Make it great tomorrow.”
