Side braid

side braid.php

I Love Her Hair

This is a great natural hairstyle that can contribute to hair protection as well as hair growth. The ends of the hair which are susceptible to damage are well protected within the braid. Moreover, this side braid hairstyle includes a front cornrow that can help keep unruly edges along the hairline under control.

How To Do It:

1. Part hair on the side.

2. Cornrow hair to the left of the part.

3. Once the left side braid is cornrowed down to the nape pull all hair to the right side.

4. Part remaining hair into two sections.

5. Holding the two sections (one in each hand), take strands from the left section and cross it over to the right section of hair.

6. Next, take strands from the right section and cross it over to the left section of the hair.

7. Continue repeating steps 5 and 6, crisscrossing sections of hair until the fishtail side braid is at your desired length.

In many ways, hair braiding has deep roots in the African-American community. From their origins in Africa, through the days of slavery and into today’s pop culture, cornrow braids have long been associated with the black community. Coffee for Hair- Say Hello to More Growth and Healthier Looking Hair!

Coffee for Hair

Make that cup of Joe pay major hair dividends! Think more shine, more growth and even more strength! If any of those are what you are striving towards, have you ever considered adding coffee to your hair care routine? At first, using coffee for hair techniques and treatments can initially seem a little strange. However, the numerous benefits will easily have you rethinking your stance. So then, allow us to briefly introduce you to the exciting world of coffee hair care!

Coffee for Hair- Why Use It?

For one thing, it’s all natural baby! Hair products that incorporate harsh ingredients eventually lead to strands having harsh looks. For instance, just a few of the ingredients to watch out for in popular hair care items include:

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate– Has been connected to causing skin rashes, eye damage, depression and even cancer.
Potassium Sorbate– This ingredient has been linked to inducing skin as well as organ system toxicity.
Dimethicone– This form of silicone can cause the skin and scalp to be not only drier, but become irritated.
Triclosan– Is known for irritating the eyes, skin and lungs. In some cases has also been the cause of organ disruption.
Polysorbates, Cocamidopropyl Betaine and Phenoxyethanol– These ingredients have the ability to cause irritation of the skin, eyes or lungs.

See the importance of using natural hair care items? While of course, everyone is different and various ingredients may have an affect on some and not on others. It is always safer to utilize products with ingredients that will do the most good instead of the most harm.

Coffee for Hair- Additional Benefits

Coffee for Hair

Besides, being more delicate on your strands and body, coffee comes with a host of other amazing benefits! Let’s quickly discuss a few of them. You may be shocked!

When it comes to hair the number one searched hair issue is usually how to grow more hair. As a result, coffee is like a superhero to the hair strand. This is because caffeine helps to stimulate the follicle’s ability to produce hair.

Furthermore, this little benefit is extremely important since the quality as well as length of one’s hair greatly depends on the health of the hair follicles. To help in this area, coffee stimulates the roots thus improving not only their structure, but their growth. Due to this coffee can do much to prevent hair loss and restore hair growth.

Another wonderful benefit is that coffee is very rich in phytosterols. What can these do for you? Phytosterols awesomely promote moisture retention and absorption! Moisture is not just important for healthy hair in general, but can help prevent dryness, damage, breakage or lack of hair growth.

Coffee for Hair- Invest in Coffee Oil

Coffee for Hair

Ever heard of Coffee hair oil? Some have, some have not. However, if luxurious looking tresses is your aim, purchasing this natural hair product will help you achieve that very result. Coffee hair oil has been credited with the ability to increase blood circulation to the scalp and stimulation of hair roots. Remember, a healthy scalp equals healthy hair growth. If want something more traditional, but just as good try Obsessed Hair Oil. Celebrities swear by this oil!

Earlier we mentioned how coffee is not among the widely known top 12 harmful hair care product ingredients. Which is also why many healthy hair consumers love just how coffee hair oil is made. It is derived directly from coffee grounds.

Oftentimes coffee grounds are just easily and simply dried and then infused into an oil to be used on the hair. While coffee hair oil can be purchased already bottled and ready for use. Some choose to make the oil at home themselves. This ensures that there’s been no funny business with the inclusion of extra unnecessary ingredients that may be bad for the hair.

Coffee for Hair- How to Make Coffee Hair Oil

Coffee for Hair

Want to know how to make coffee hair oil? We thought you might! We asked several hair professionals to give us a simple DIY (do it yourself) recipe. Here’s what they recommend:

DIY Recipe #1

1. Combine 1 cup of Olive Oil with 3/4 cup of ground coffee and place the mixture into a jar.

2. Put the lid on the jar securely then give the jar a good shake. Make sure that you shake the jar well.

3. Keep the jar in a dry place from 1 week up to a month.

4. Strain the oil from the mixture using a cheesecloth. Enjoy using your oil!

**Quick Notes: What is a cheesecloth? A cheesecloth is a loose-woven, gauze-like cloth made out of cotton that’s used in cooking or making cheese. They can be bought in store or online. For instance, Target as well as Walmart sells these cloths for less than $3.

DIY Recipe #2

1. Pour 8 tablespoons of Coconut or Olive oil into a pan and add in 4 tablespoons of ground coffee beans.

2. Heat the mixture over low heat for half an hour or up to a couple hours. Stir occasionally.

3. Strain out the oil using a coffee filter or cheesecloth. Once again, enjoy!

**BEAUTY BONUS! Time to think outside of the strand! Besides being used as an oil for the hair, did you know you could also use this as a body or face oil? Use it to help tighten skin, prevent wrinkles and reduce the appearance of cellulite. This bit of beauty news can be summed up in one word… Amazing!

Coffee for Hair – Our Final Thoughts

As one can see, coffee is not just great in a cup. It can be used to give new life to strands as well as the skin. Therefore, try out these coffee for hair treatment ideas and experience their extensive benefits. You may just find they are just the right temperature (wink, wink).

Fixing Hair Shrinkage and Loss of Length Due to Tangling With Oil

hair shrinkage

We get it, hair shrinkage is the pits. It can almost feel like your hair look is being short changed. Tresses start off stretched and closer to full length only to draw up like a clam in a shell. Plus, don’t even get us started on detangling. If only there is something one can do to fix both issues simultaneously.

Hair Shrinkage and Loss of Length Due to Tangling

Well, hold on, because there is an option! Do you know what it is? If you guessed hair oil then you would be absolutely correct. Now allow us to quickly tell you why.

First off, what exactly is shrinkage? This is the result of the hair drawing up due to the inability to maintain moisture. The strand can literally “chase” after hydration.

hair shrinkage

You see as the hair dries it normally dries at the ends first. Meaning our roots dry slower than our strands’ ends. As the hair dries it “draws up” in order to get closer to the moisture still present at the roots.

Get the picture? If you do, then most likely you can also glean a fix to this common hair problem. Nevertheless, if you don’t we’re going to tell you the secret anyway.

Combating Hair Shrinkage and Loss of Length

hair shrinkage

One the simplest ways to retain moisture in the hair is to seal it in so that it can’t escape. So then, what is a proper sealant? Here is the best hair oil that accomplishes this with ease.

The oil acts like a fence that moisture can’t get over. As we like to say think of it like a puppy and a high barrier. Everything stays nicely and safely inside.

Since moisture can stay along the entire strand the hair does not need to necessarily draw up towards any hydration. Plus, hair oil or creams add more weight to strands. This allows gravity to also do it’s job to keep tresses going downward than up.

Fixing Loss of Length Due to Tangling

hair shrinkage

So then, now that the cat is out of the bag on how to combat shrinkage. You may be wondering about the second half of this article’s title. How does shrinkage play into tangling?

Simple. Shrinkage causes knots and tangles. The more coil-y the texture, the higher the shrinkage and in turn opportunity for more tangles to be formed.

Nonetheless, hair does not have to be curly or wavy to hair issues with tangling. Straighter textures can also be affected by this issue. Also, dry hair can cause split ends and knotting at the ends. By the way, that is a good indicator that your hair can use a trim; if hair ends can not be combed or passed through with fingers easily.

The best way to fix this? You guessed it, hair oil. You’re a quick study! (wink, wink).

Hair Oil- Combating Hair Shrinkage and Loss of Length Due to Tangling

Nevertheless, the easiest way to detangle tresses while preventing shrinkage is to apply coconut or jojoba oil (or both together) to your hair. Heat the oil(s) up and apply the warm concoction to your strands and scalp. Then use your fingers to gently detangle any knots.

You will find the oil will provide a nice element  of  “slip” to your tresses. Thus, making detangling not only easier, but less of a pain. Literally.

hair shrinkage

In order to gain the most benefits, hair oil should be used in conjunction with your other styling products. If you use creams, leave-ins and the like, continue to. Moreover, cream moisturizers should be apart of your hair shrinkage arsenal. When these are used along with oil not only are curls/waves more defined, but will experience less draw up.

So then, there you have it. You CAN combat shrinkage as well as tangles. The fix is natural and extremely useful… hair oil.

Tamera Mowry -Her Stylist Rachel Mason

With numerous awards, celebrity clientele and several hit shows under her belt; we wanted to know what inspires Mason to continue to be so successful in the hair industry. She reveals,

“Yeah so I was at mom’s place and came across these old photos of my pops and granny. Let me just say they are the reasons why I am the professional Hairstylist I am today. They were driven. They were innovative. They had growing hands.

They had knowledge. Skills. Spiritual. They were creative. They were hungry. They were determined.

They had strength during times when we (you know what I mean) weren’t acknowledged for our talents and creations but set pride aside and did what needed to be done to support their family. And honey child I am here to say I got all that in my DNA. 3 generations… different eras.. similar challenges; [and] all good people. I wish they were here today so I could thank them at least; for passing it down to me. Forever grateful.”

Last thing we wanted to know was Mason’s thoughts on the long held black hair question, “What really does it mean to have ‘natural’ hair?” There are so many opinions out there. However, many do not realize being natural does not necessarily refer to hair being curly or coily.

Tamera Mowry -Her Stylist Rachel B Mason Answers the BIG Question

Tamera Mowry

Therefore, this subject is something we felt a professional view would be cool to have. So then, what does hair stylist, Rachel Mason have to say about it? Rachel states,

“Okay, so I want to make clear what going natural means. It means cutting out any and all chemical services to your hair. No color. No highlights. No relaxers. No perms. Virgin hair.

Easy enough right? I mentioned previously that I was going natural. I am. I am just going through something called a transition stage. You can cut it all off and rock a cute fade if it fits you to do so; rock a TWA or just cut the hair that is chemically treated and start there.

This is MY transition look and I chose to gradually go natural. I like to curl it, press it out or set it on some rods. I personally like the ability to change my hair when I feel like it and not be stuck with one look. I used to be like that once upon a time.

[However] very soon I will be completely natural, free of chemical or have virgin hair. But don’t be surprised if you see some color later down the line for summer! Here’s the thing ladies if you want to do it, do it! Make sure you do it for you and do it right. If you need help or ideas entering your transition speak to your Hair Stylist or just hit me up if you need a little inspiration.”

2017 Hair Color Trend: Pastel Pink Hair

Pastel Pink Hair

When most girls decide to dye their strands normally they opt for a more “routine” hair color look. Maybe highlights, Beyonce platinum blonde or perhaps supermodel Jasmine Tookes ombré. However, nowadays it seems like it does not get any cooler or stylish than bold or multi-tone dyed hair. As a result, hair lovers begin to wonder what’s on deck next in the world of hair color. Therefore, what is trending for 2017? Three words y’all: Pink Pastel Hair from Adore Hair Color.

2017 Hair Color Trend: Pastel Pink Hair

Remember last year when gray hair hit the scene? That trend took off like wildfire and pretty soon we all looked like a super glam great grandma. The same momentum is occurring with “on Wednesdays we wear pink” tresses. Especially among celebrities.

Nicki Minaj debuted the pink pastel hair style with her now infamous down to there hair length. Stylist Tokyo Stylez also got down with pink gradient locks that starts at the roots. Moreover, Blac Chyna switched up the game by flipping script with pink pastel tips. Who’s look do you love the most out these chic triplets?

Pastel Pink Hair

Quick Tips for Maintaining Pastel Pink Hair

It’s all fun and games until your awesome bubblegum tone hair looks a wee bit less popping. So then, how can you keep your pastel pink hair looking great longer? Here are a few pro tips!

  • Prep Strands– A month before your dye job, take an honest look at your hair. Is it strong and healthy? If not, you could be in for a rude awakening. Hair dye unfortunately puts hair damage on blast. If your hair is dry or weak your resulting hair shade will emphasize it. Therefore, aim to start your hair color journey with a healthy head of hair. Perform deep conditioning treatments a few weeks before to make sure your hair color will look its absolute best.
  • Go Pro– Money is tight these days, but don’t skimp on your hair. Box dyes will give you a look but only a professional colorist can give you the best quality pastel pink hair color. Also, in order to reach such a tone usually a pre-lightening step is involved. Do you know how to do that? If not, it’s highly recommended to just make a hair appointment.
  • Space Out– Try your best to really space out your wash days. Shampoo strips hair color and makes it fade. So then, always be wary of products containing sulfates or alcohol- two enemies of hair color. It’s best to utilize color-safe and specially color formulated shampoos in order to maxamize the length of a hair dye job.

Tips for Dry Hair: 7 Quick and Amazing Natural Solutions

Dry hair

Dry hair is a woman’s nightmare! Your hair is your crowning glory and the way it looks greatly impacts your overall appearance. Therefore, who would want their strands to appear unhealthy and messy aka… (frizzy and dry hair)? In this article we will quickly discuss why dry hair occurs in the first place and 7 natural remedies to easily fix it.

Tips for Dry Hair: 7 Quick and Amazing Natural Solutions

What causes dry hair?

There are many known causes of dry hair that include: environmental factors, use of too much heat products and not having proper nutrition. However, here are some of the additional things that are giving you dry hair.

  • Your shampoo is just too strong. Shampoo can be drying since it gets rid of dirt and oils. If you wash your hair too much or have a very strong shampoo, even the natural oil that is needed to keep your hair and scalp moisturized is stripped off.
  • Excessive blow-drying. We must admit, at times it’s hard to think of ever living without a blow dryer. Nevertheless, it must be said that it has the ability to draw out moisture from your hair. Also, towels can make our hair frizzy, so try using an old t-shirt instead for drying your hair if you’re not really in a rush to dry your strands.
  • Excessive use of heated hair styling products such as straightening or a curling iron makes moisture evaporate away from your hair. Therefore, instead aim to use an ionic or ceramic type of heated hair care products and always use a hair protectant product before dealing with these hair tools.
  • Environmental factors also affect your hair such as humidity, strong winds, etc.
  • Chemical treatments such as perming, re-bonding, relaxing and coloring alter your hair’s ph balance and moisture.
  • Malnutrition
  • Family Genetics
  • Excessive soaking in a chlorinated swimming pool.

Dry Hair: 7 Quick and Amazing Natural Solutions

Now that we’ve learned what causes dry hair, all we have to do is to stay away from these causative factors. However, if you are already experiencing dry hair, here are some natural treatments that you could use.

Dry hair

Avocado

Indication: Dry and Damaged Hair

Mash an avocado, seed and skin not included. Add one egg, then beat the mixture. This treatment will restore health and moisture back to your hair since it is rich in vitamins, fatty acids, and minerals. Apply it directly on your hair. Let it sit for 20 minutes, and rinse thoroughly.

Dry hair

Unboiled Milk

Indication: Dry Hair and Unmanageable Hair

Milk is very rich in protein and is widely known for its deep moisturizing capabilities. That combination will not only make your hair healthy and strong, but it will also leave your hair feeling super smooth.

Pour unboiled milk in a small bowl. Apply the milk directly to your hair and scalp using a cotton ball. Leave it for an hour and rinse thoroughly.

Dry hair

Butter/ Shea Butter

Indication: Dry and Dull Hair

This is also known for its deep moisturizing effects for your skin (scalp) and hair. Butter/Shea Butter are essential oils that are full of essences that work best to hydrate your strands and leaving them looking shiny and healthy.

Massage the butter directly into your hair in a circular motion. Use a shower cap to cover your hair/head and let it sit for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse as usual.

Dry hair

Banana

Indication: Dry Hair

This fruit is high in potassium, antioxidants, and vitamins that keep your hair healthy and hydrated. Eating them or using them as a beautifying treatment has both health and beauty benefits.

This can easily be prepared by mashing or blending two ripe bananas. You can also add an egg in the mixture to create a paste with a high moisturizing property. Massage this paste into your hair and scalp and let it sit for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse as usual.

Dry Hair: 7 Quick and Amazing Natural Solutions (Continued)

Dry hair

Honey

Indication: Dry and Frizzy Hair

This is a nourishing treatment for your hair. It also prevents frizz, leaving your hair smoother and silkier. Your natural hair color will also look more radiant after this treatment.

You can apply it directly to your hair. If you want your hair to look sleeker, you can apply the honey using a comb then let it sit for an hour. Prevent yourself from moving, clipping, folding, bending, and pressing your hair against any objects (Don’t use shower cap. Keep hair smooth as possible) Rinse and shampoo as usual.

Dry hair

Mayonnaise

Indication: Dry, Brittle, Unmanageable Hair

This is another great source of natural oil and proteins. It will make your hair healthier, smoother, softer and shinier at the same time. If you can put up with the sour smell, this is a great treatment that would pamper your hair to health.

You can directly apply this to your hair using slight circular pressure. Cover your hair with a plastic (shower cap) and let it sit for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse as usual. You can also opt to add other oils and essences like olive oil and coconut oil for a boosted effect.

Dry hair

Aloe Vera

This is a hair beauty secret that has been used even in the ancient times. Aloe Vera is 90% water plus added vitamins and minerals known to make your hair vibrant, well-moisturized, healthy, and smooth. Based on my personal experience, it helped my hair grow faster as well.

You can prepare a treatment paste by blending or spooning out the gel of the aloe vera leaf. Feel free to add oils and essences according to your needs and preferences that will help boost its effects. You can massage it into your hair and scalp directly. Use a shower cap to cover your hair, and let it sit for at least and hour. Rinse and shampoo as usual.

For best results, make this an overnight treatment and apply aloe vera paste before you go to bed. Cover with a shower cap and rinse in the morning after.

Tips for Dry Hair

Dry hair

Conclusion

There is no doubt that many natural ingredients are packed with proteins, vitamins, and minerals that help keep our hair healthy and moisturized. These treatments can be done 2-3 times a week to get best results for dry hair. They can also be used once every two to three weeks as maintenance for normal hair.

These are just some of the many natural treatments we could use to treat dry hair. You can  mix oils and essentials with these treatments to boost their effects. If you know other natural hair treatments that were not listed, feel free to comment below to let others know.
