How Do You Handle Stress at Work? – 3 Tips to Stay Calm

BREATHE
Deep breathing exercises are perfect for reducing tension and can be done anytime you start to feel anxious. Here’s what you do: Inhale a big deep breath through your nose for three to four seconds. Hold for a moment then slowly exhale through your mouth for ten seconds. Repeat until you feel yourself start to relax
STARE
Many of us are forced to stare at a computer screen for at least eight hours a day. It goes without saying that this is not good for your eyes and can also result in tense muscles. So to combat this issue, here’s what you do: At the top of every hour push away from your desk to put a little distance between your eyes and the computer screen. Focus on a spot on a wall a few feet away. Or if you have a nice picture you enjoy looking at use that instead. The goal is to get your eyes to focus on something calming or soothing. Look at the object of your choice for about three to five minutes. This will help your eyes to relax and get a break from staring at the same screen for hours on end. On a side note, if you can’t do this at the beginning of the hour just be sure to do the exercise at least once an hour whenever you are able to do so.

MOVE
Sitting at a desk for hours and hours can wreak havoc on a body. Your internal organs get compressed, your knees get stiff and your neck and back ache relentlessly. Again, every hour it is vital to move your body. The simplest way to do this is to stand up at your desk and walk in place for five minutes. If you work in a bull pen and standing in place may be awkward then remain seated and stretch your legs out in front of you. Once your legs are stretched out, flex your ankles back and forth to loosen the joints. After that you can raise your arms over your head and stretch them up as high as is comfortable. This way you get the blood flowing and keep your muscles warm.

Avoid Stress at Work

Doing these three things everyday will help your mind and body to stay loose and relaxed thereby mitigating some of the stress induced by your job. Until you are able to make your escape keeping yourself calm is a necessity. After all you want to be ready to pounce on any opportunity that comes your way and you can’t do that if your mind and body are a mess. Until the next time we chat, stay healthy my friends!
