Hair Quickie: Remember, not all hair is created equally, so what works for one person may not work for someone else. There are some that can pile on product after product and they will not experience any real build-up or backlash. Build-up can occur from the use of gels, hairspray, pomades and even conditioners. Nevertheless, if you notice that products seem to build up on top of the hair there is a easy solution. Try mixing 1 tablespoon baking soda with your regular shampoo once a week. Wash hair like normal then rinse out the concoction and dry strands as usual.

Hair Quickie: When growing hair and keeping strands healthy, nutrition is an essential part. For instance, if you notice that your locks have become dull and lacking of lustrous shine it could be your diet having a negative effect. Try cutting down on cholesterol and fats in order help bring life back into your tresses.

Beauty Quickie: To begin, most lengthening mascara formulas are made to give the illusion of more length. To get the most bang for your buck place the products wand right there the roots, not at the tips. Only applying mascara at the tips of strands will not give you the longer lash effect. It’s the mascara that is placed right at the roots that gives lashes the illusion of length.

Anyone who has ever planned for a big event, much less a wedding knows that it can be an exciting yet stressful time making sure every detail is perfection. Getting hitched or have a BFF that’s about to utter the words, “I do?” Check out these great tips we learned from the fabulous Carats & Cake! Just got engaged? Embrace the moment!
So many couples rush into planning mode right away without taking the time to bask in the “just engaged glow”. Regardless of whether you are planning a 12 week or 12 month engagement, you have time and beginnings only happen once. So breathe.
When you do start the planning process, it is important that you have a sit-down with all parties involved and discuss the big picture from responsibilities to budget. The biggest piece of advice I hear from brides everyday is that communication and organization are key. Not only does this help everyone get on the same page, but it also avoids future conflicts.
It’s all about you and your beloved. Period.
Too many couples say they lose sight of this and get wrapped up in trying to make everyone else happy but themselves. Remember this is your wedding. As harsh as it sounds, you have to come to terms with the fact that you aren’t going to please everyone and setting boundaries as mentioned above can help.
Prioritize. Make a list of the things that are important to you and rank them. Working on a limited budget? Splurge on the things that matter and figure out how to save with things that don’t. Obsessing over a designer dress? Then see if a friend can make you an amazing play list so you don’t have to pay for a DJ. A flower aficionado? Make sure your florist can re-use flowers from the ceremony in the reception.
Photographs last a lifetime. Even though I said it’s all about you, arguably the third most important person at your wedding is the photographer. Choosing the right person to capture your special day can be daunting, so make sure you not only ask to view multiple weddings they have shot but also ask for referrals.
In addition, many girls recommend you meet your photographer before the big day so that the photographer gets a sense of you as a couple and knows what to look for. One more tip, make a list of the shots you absolutely want so nobody misses a thing.

Michael Costello’s runway show for El Paseo Fashion Week was brimming with so many show-stopping pieces we don’t even know where to begin! We gushed over his all noire designs that consisted of long gowns, jumpsuits and short flirtatious dresses with cut-outs. Backstage Michael shared with us that the collection was inspired by samurai warriors and each ensemble we saw fit the bill because they were fierce, sassy and extremely sexy. You can always tell when even the models are enjoying the fashions, their walk becomes harder, stronger and they simply stomp to the death. Every last model served it like their rent, electric and Iphone bills were due!
Costello’s femme fatale show gave us style shivers also thanks to lovely embellishments that included: fur, low V-cuts, sparkle, pockets, high splits, sheer fabrics and bold silver shades. Michael’s breathtaking show also included menswear, but for more on that be sure to lookout for our exclusive interview with Michael in our April issue!

Now here is a show that we can really sink our trendy teeth into with gusto! Dom Streater’s designs were inspired by three powerful queens that changed the face of the kingdoms they ruled over and now Dom’s creations will forever change the face of fashion. We immediately noticed the Victorian collars and graphic logos on various tops proclaiming fabulous Queen-dom (no pun intended we swear, for those who noticed what we did there).
Moreover, the prints held our attention without becoming a repetitive bore, each piece was unique and well executed. Nevertheless, our campaign and quest in regards to comfortable fashions for women was put at ease when we noticed a printed dress with pockets. We women haul all sorts of necessities on a daily basis, it is always refreshing to purchase clothing that we can simply slip our car keys or Iphone into for easy access. It is clear that Dom understands the female physique as well as our needs and makes beautiful garments in the process.

We are such fashion suckers when it comes to great tailoring or originality. Daniel Esquivel and Patricia Michaels showcased their immense skill-set in each of these areas. First up, let’s talk about Daniel’s beautiful collection that included a black and red color palette with fringe as well as glitzy and twinkling embellishments. One look we wanted to get our stylish paws on was an all white suit that showed off the model’s gorgeous gams. We didn’t know whether to be more jealous of how the wonderful model looked in said white couture or that we did not possess that very ensemble in our closet!
We digress, so moving on, Patricia Michaels was another favorite of the night. Patricia’s show started off with a big splash and carried the momentum all the way through. The models strutted down the catwalk carrying gigantic umbrellas that complemented the trendy Pmwaterlily garb. Some of the pieces that we fell in love incorporated high splits (skirt was made for a goddess), sheer fabrics and 3-d petals. The ovations heard and seen during Michael’s show say it all…one fantastic show!

We just can’t get enough of this talented chick! We got to catch up with the ingenious designer after the Stars of Project Runway Fashion Show who with her infectious personality and demeanor filled us in on the deets regarding her amazing collection. Michelle said her designs were inspired by hot air balloons which was a sort of symbolism of her life and falling back. We loved the details of ropes and tassels that brought Michelle’s vision to life.
Moreover, the swim-wear had us at hello and love at first sight due to the high-waisted bottoms that are simply perfection when hiding problem areas. The retro yet modern vibe of the swimsuits had us dreaming of a Dorthy Dandridge/Marilyn Monroe summer with a contempo twist. From start to finish Michelle Lesniak’s show had us crying tears of fashion joy.
