Step aside Timex and Rolex… there’s a new luxury watch label on the scene! We are SO excited to tell you all about Chale Watches, a highend timepiece brand that utilizes sustainable materials.

The label just released their new, decadent Tribesman collection. With pieces that will fit any man or woman who loves indulging in timeless and classic fashion.

Moreover, the designs themselves are total and complete showstoppers. However, it’s what’s on the inside, not the outside, that really took our breath away!

Design. Efficient design! What’s so ingenious and fabulous about a Tribesman watch? Chale Watches reveals,

“The Tribesman is an African inspired luxury watch with a sustainable approach. We use sustainable materials in the watch-making process and the watch runs on a solar powered movement which charges by being exposed to artificial and natural light. We also use the innovative fabric Pinatex to make our vegan leather straps and packaging (made from fibers of pineapple leaves).”

We recently had the honor of speaking with the founder of Chale Watches, Theresa Djokoto in order to get even more fabulous Intel about these stunning watches. Check out our little convo below!

1966 Magazine: Your watches are SO stylish and luxurious. They’re absolutely lovely! Tell us, what inspired or motivated you to start Chale Watches?

Theresa Djokoto: I started Chale Watches because of my entrepreneurial passion and my undying love for Africa. My father is African, and I have gone back to Ghana ever since I was a little girl. I wanted to express my heritage through the creation of the brand and the collections. I want the watches to celebrate, promote and unite Africans everywhere!

1966 Magazine: What will Kickstarter funds allow you to accomplish for your brand?

Theresa Djokoto: The funds that we raise through this Kickstarter campaign will allow us to start the production of the Tribesman Collection and fullfill all the orders that is coming in through the campaign. If we meet our goal, we are also planning an official launch of The Tribesman collection at Macy’s – Lennox Square in Atlanta in October.

1966 Magazine: Alright, there you have it everyone, time to get donating and tell a friends! Lastly, we love that you chose to use sustainable materials with your products; but why was it important for you to include such materials in your designs?

Theresa Djokoto: We as Africans have a history of being sustainable, also it is very important in this day and age to find new ways to sustain the eco-friendliness of our products and packaging due to the global challenges we collectively face. We want to be a part of the solution, not the problem.

Office Slippers -The 1st Slippers Worn That Can Be Worn to the Office

Office Slippers, an innovative start-up company, has created the first ever slipper made especially for the office. The company has designed slippers that look like every day dress shoes, allowing individuals to wear them at work. Office Slippers provides maximum comfort throughout the workday, but never look out of place at the office.

“Nowadays, entering the workforce typically means conforming to other employees and being uncomfortable while doing your job,” Mike McLaughlin, Office Slippers founder, said. “If you’re going to conform, at least you can be comfortable now. Office Slippers allows people the best of both worlds.”

Not all heroes wear capes, but McLaughlin might as well be wearing one for this awesome invention! McLaughlin will be launching a Kickstarter campaign on Tuesday, March 12th to raise funds for Office Slippers. The campaign seeks to raise $20,000 for the initial production; manufacturing, and distribution of their debut model, the Ashland.

This suede model is based on a Chelsea Boot and comes in three colors: black, navy, and brown. The slipper components include a memory foam sole; dense plush inner lining, and a nonskid rubber outer sole.

The Kickstarter campaign will run until Thursday, April 11th. Backers can fund the project with any amount of money they’d like; but a pair of Office Slippers begins at the $55 mark with exclusive early pricing. In addition, McLaughlin will speak with certain backers to get their feedback on the company.

“We know that it’s a great idea, but this is the big moment. If we’re funded, we’re excited to see the ways in which we can transform offices. If not, at least we learned some good lessons along the way,” McLaughlin said. “We hope to attract as many people as possible. We’ve got some really exciting incentives lined up for early backers, including grabbing these at a discount.”
