Golden Globes 2016 Red Carpet Fashion Recap

2016 Golden Globe Taraji P. Henson Fashion Recap

Last night the Golden Globes was chalk full of wonderful surprises from the red carpet to the star-studded after parties. We have to tip our Louboutins to the fabulous Taraji P. Henson who took home some much earned hardware for her performance as Cookie on Fox network’s hit show Empire. Henson won for Best Actress in a Television Drama yet before her name was even called out she had already won us over in the style department!

Taraji P. Henson along with the rest of Tinseltown’s hottest starlets put it down upon arriving in Beverly Hills for all the festivities. Numerous fashion trends were spotted including bold tints, sequins, cut-outs, capes and metallics. Length also played a key role in the fashion drama as most ladies chose to adorn themselves in floor-length gowns.

Let us not forget accessories because thou-eth would be a sin and no ensemble is truly complete without them. Many actresses opted for a clutch in order to tote their valuables and bling was absolutely everywhere. Diamonds and Swarovski found its way on our favorite stars in the form of earrings, rings, bracelets, heels and handbags. Lovely Gabrielle Union even wore a jewel encrusted headband with her monochromatic design.

Well, ladies that is enough talk because seeing is believing. Keep scrolling to see what Hollywood’s leading ladies were rocking last night!

Angela Simmons Black SuperTrash Jumpsuit For Growing Up Hip Hop Tour

Angela Simmons Black SuperTrash Jumpsuit

Angela Simmons was spotted looking quite spiffy in all black ensemble. While Simmons’ father travels the world it looks like Angela will be busy with a little project of her own. The reason Angela was all dolled up was in order to promote GUHH aka Growing Up Hip Hop that follows a cast of hip hop royalty offspring as they work towards being known outside of just having über famous parents. An issue that even “normal” kids can relate to when it comes to filling mom and dad’s shoes.

The cast includes of course Miss Simmons, Kristinia DeBarge, Damon “Boogie” Dash as well as Romeo Miller to name a few. The dynamic docu-series will air beginning on Thursday, January 14 on WEtv and you are not going to want to miss it!

Now lets quickly get back to that black attire that Angela looked absolutely fantastic in for the promo tour. The black jumpsuit worn by the starlet is by SuperTrash with the accompanying jacket being a design of Foofi and Bella. Angela’s hair and makeup were also very on point thanks to Nikk Rokk (hair) and Mimi Johnson (makeup).

Hair Notes: Long, dramatic flowing waves are a great style to add flair to a rather chic yet subtle outfit.

Congolese Cultural Creations

Contributing cultural fashions to New York Fashion Week is always welcomed in a city of cultural diversity. During market week in September, African elegance arrived at New York’s Plaza Hotel. The Kapy Bash Mode collection debuted in a collective showcase of international presenters to an audience of style enthusiast, fashion influencers and media makers. Kapy Bash Mode offers African ethnic gowns that are inspired by cultures from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Kapy Bash Mode uses liputa, ankara, french lace, bazin, satin and linen fabrics. There is a soon to debut resort line of acrylic swimwear fashions and ankara boxer shorts for men. The creator, Kapinga Bashala has been designing for the Kapy Bash Mode brand for twenty-six years. She has designed custom gowns for television personalities, government dignitaries, pageants and bridal parties.

There are many negative misconceptions about African cultures and lifestyle. Contemporary African fashion are demystifying the negative stereotypes. With each ethnic gown I create, I share an experience of Congolese’s cultural decadence with the world.” explains Kapinga.

With her busy schedule, Kapinga still finds time to be philanthropic by helping to fund educational programs for underprivileged children in the Dem. Rep. of Congo. Kapinga also helps misfortunate Congolese women develop fundamental skills for starting a small business. A percentage of KBM’s online proceeds goes to fund the charity ‘Kapy Bash for Mothers and Children’. Sharing culture through fashions not only helps others experience unique heritage, it helps preserve heritage through collective economics. Now that is a sustainable trend that is always in style.

Fashionable Mention: Stance Star Wars Collection

Fashionable Mention Stance Star Wars Collection

Once in a lifetime a sock comes along with the epicness of the Egyptain pyramids, gravity and world peace rolled all into one. That sock of this generation comes via Stance, the company behind superstar Rihanna’s graphic and furry sock gems (more on that later). Just in time for the holiday season Stance has released their Star Wars box set which includes 12 characters from the world renown films.

As if that wasn’t cool enough each set also comes with one bonus secret character… nerd achievement unlocked! These amazing socks include characters: Luke Skywalksr, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Darth Vader, C3PO, R2D2, Chewbacca and the Jedi master himself, Yoda.

Besides, socks themselves Stance has put together one stunning website to market them. We had heard through the grapevine that you use ‘the Force’ in order to navigate the site. That was literally all the ammunition we needed to hear in order to develop a strong desire to go check it out (LOL). As soon as you navigate to www.theuncommonforce.com you are asked to tap the screen to begin and that’s when the magic happens. We won’t ruin it for ya, so instead of spoilers we just highly recommend using a smartphone if you want to give it a try. So go have some fun Jedis as well as Siths and don’t forget to pick up a pair of socks in time for the Star Wars film that hits theaters December 18th.

Pantone’s 2016 Colors Of The Year

Pantone's 2016 Colors Of The Year2

No ladies, your eyes did not fail you as you perused the title of this post. History has been made when it comes to next year’s selection of shades to envy and place on trend. As any beauty maven or fashionista knows normally one shade is chosen but next year two shall reign supreme.

Therefore, what are the two tints that we need to go out and grab? Pantone has selected Serenity which is a pretty, ethereal light blue as well as Rose Quartz which is a delicate light pink. We foresee both colors being a major hit during spring when fresh color is often much appreciated and considered en vogue.

Here is a closer look at the two shades courtesy of Pantone:

Pantone's 2016 Colors Of The Year

The color of palette of the two tints are extremely complimentary of each other. Nevertheless, here is why the pair of colors were chosen out of the entire spectrum:

Editorial Deanna S. Reid X Women's Touch Apparel

We would like to welcome Deanna S. Reid back into the 1966 house as she introduces us to some more amazing fashions this time by Woman’s Touch Apparel. We had the amazing opportunity to interview Deanna and she spilled the deets on everything from photography to fashion. Enjoy and don’t forget to scroll to see more of her editorial look book.

1966: What was the inspiration or deciding factor that motivated you to enter the world of photography?

Deanna R.: My father bought me my first point and shoot camera when I was in middle school. I always snapped pictures with family and friends. In college, I bought my first professional camera and shot my best friend’s audition photos for America’s Next Top Model. From there I started learning the technical aspects of photography from other photographers and online tutorials.

1966: Have you always had a love or passion for taking photos?

Deanna R.: Photography has always been my passion but now it is my goal to pursue it. I’m at the point in my life where my passion for the work is undeniable. The urge to progress is constant.

1966: We absolutely love your fashion editorial pieces, are there any challenges to getting the perfect shot?

Deanna R.: The challenge is not finding the right shot. The challenge or rather the excitement is finding the connection to the subject that builds the momentum to the shots that we want. It’s a collaborative effort.

1966: We can’t get enough of the “Bad Gal” tee but what was your favorite fashion piece from the shoot?

Deanna R.: My favorite piece was the Bad Gal Crop Top Out of Africa Edition. The print is bold and fun!

1966: Lastly Deanna, if you could photograph any celebrity from now or the past, who would it be and why?

Deanna R.: Sorry I can’t choose one celebrity lol. I would do a collaborative shoot with Erykah Badu and Solange. They are beautiful women who embrace individuality and creativity in music and fashion.
