Puppy Love, Where to Acquire Your Pet Dog
Those puppies in the windows and on the sidewalks of the pet stores sure are cute. You may barely be able to contain yourself from rushing in and grabbing up the first little fur ball that gives your hand a friendly lick.
However, buying a puppy from a pet store isn’t always ideal, as they often have both hereditary and infectious diseases and most likely were bred in a puppy mill. Dogs that come from puppy mills are generally raised in poor and inhumane conditions.
Instead consider adopting a dog from your local SPCA, Humane Society or Rescue Organization. Whether you prefer a mixed breed or a purebred puppy or dog you can find them at these organizations. The staffs are usually quite helpful and are eager to make sure you choose the right dog for your lifestyle. For a list of rescue groups, look here. For a list of SPCAs, look here.
