Travel Mondays: Kawah Ijen Volcano
Travel Mondays: Kawah Ijen Volcano (located in east Java Island, Indonesia) spews lava that glows vibrant blue due to super concentrated sulfuric acid. There are only 2 volcanoes in the world (the other one is in Iceland) that produce such a phenomenon. Only at night will you see this liquid sulfur, which has caught fire and burns with an eerie blue flame. The gases emerge from the cracks in the volcano at high pressure and temperature, up to 600°C and sending flames up to 16 feet high.
Travel Mondays: Colors of Neal’s Yard in London, England
Travel Mondays: Colors of Neal’s Yard in London, England. Seeing this beautiful little place in London just brings a smile to my face this Monday morning. The colors of the building are addictive. Hidden away, Neal’s Yard is one of those places that if you didn’t know it was there, you might pass it. There are only two alleyways leading into the Yard, both of which are fairly unassuming. It really is a secret garden and is visited only by those who know exactly where they are going. When you find it you will see Neal’s Yard Bakery, the delicious yogurt ice cream, the New Age bookshop, and the Remedy Shop.
Who came up with this beautiful treasure? Tim Hunkin, a Cambridge graduate created the magnificent water clock that is on the outside of the wholefood shop, and the animated sculpture of people standing in line at a baker’s within the Yard itself.
So the big question how exactly do you get there? Are you ready? Neal’s Yard is three minutes from Covent Garden tube station, and five minutes from Leicester Square tube station. Now don’t say I never did anything for you.
