Sanctuary! Being a badgal, we do not expect Rih to ever play it safe or need fashion saving. Miss Fenty hit the masses with a one-two punch of iconic style. Chew on these Rihanna Met Gala ensemble tidbits:

Tons of Manpower: Laurie Brookins reveals, “Details on Rihanna’s Maison Margiela Artisanal look by John Galliano: A 3 piece ensemble of sculptural jacket and skirt over a bustier dress. All seafoam jacquard embellished with pearls and faux jewels. 250 hours to sew [and] 500 hours to embroider.” Goodness!

Keeping It in the Family: Rihanna’s famed stylist, Mel Ottenberg, is no stranger to fashion royalty and mastermind, John Galliano. In regards to the renown designer Mel states, “John Galliano!!! The goat gave me my first job when I was a baby and designed this epic look for Rihanna tonight. Thank you John.”

Wave Like You Just Don’t Care: Yes, the fit was sick, but an outfit is nothing without great hair! Hairstylist, Yusef Williams ensured that Rih would dazzle from head to toe. In regards to Rih’s amazing hair look, Yusef says, “John Galliano is the inspiration of all inspiration. For this look, I wanted to go back in time and create this Vatican-homage, but with a single finger wave to make it feel modern and more avant garde.”

We got the lowdown from the brow genius himself, Damone Roberts! Damone reveals, “And then THIS happened! Rihanna at The Met Gala 2018. When Ri tells you to fly 3,000 miles from L.A. to N.Y; bleach her brows to blend into her skin and STILL have them sculpted to perfection… you do it!

Hats Away: Couture designer, John Galliano slayed Rihanna’s look during the first Monday of May’s festivities. However, her hat was a loaner. Say what?!

Yes, the verdict is in, Fenty’s now infamous papal, bejeweled hat; is a miter from Cardinal Timothy Dolan. Mister Dolan serves as head of New York’s Roman Catholic diocese.

In regards to loaning out a miter to the pop star, Timothy did confirm that Rihanna did not keep the garment. In fact in an interview with SiriusXM Dolan says, “The news said she was wearing a tiara. [Not correct]. She gave it back to me this morning… She was very gracious.”

Met Gala 2018 – Zendaya

Chain Reaction: Let’s switch up gears in order to gab about another stylish doll! Zendaya Coleman was a starlet who to us, perfectly married the art behind the Gala theme with spellbinding couture. Daya rocked a stunning number designed by the Versace luxury label.

Regarding the design Versace states, “Knight in shining Versace. Zendaya in a Joan of Arc inspired, custom molded Atelier Versace look at the 2018 Met Gala. Featuring gunmetal chainmail embellished with Swarowski crystals, flowing into a feminine fully beaded silk chiffon skirt.”

Such a Gem: Jewelry is an excellent way to add more drama to an ensemble. For her Versace Met Ball after party look; Zendaya wore jewels by Butani. Butani dishes that Daya wore their Butani Diamond and Titanium Hoop earrings. The luxury jewelry and watches brand also loaned diamond studs to fellow singer, Ariana Grande.

Butani enjoys a long history of adding gleaming details to celebrity looks. This just year Butani has been spotted on Jennifer Hudson, actress Kiersy, Mary J. blige and Mariah Carey.

Met Gala 2018 – Tiffany Haddish

Doesn’t Matter If You’re Black or White: Now we are used to singer Janelle Monae’s monochromatic looks. However, Tiffany’s Met Ball outfit could not be ignored either! Haddish walked the red carpet in glittering design by Brandon Maxwell. Brandon revealed the inspiration behind the effortless look.

Maxwell states, “Tiffany’s look was all about purity with a dash of the wild side. One of the very first things you notice when you meet Tiffany is how effortlessly fresh and beautiful she is; a very pure heart with most fun spirit.

Hand made in our studio in New York, she wears an ivory triple layer lapel twill robe with train. [As well as] hand beaded black pearl leopard pants on georgette.”

What is georgette? In short it is a type of fabric. Named after the early 20th century French dressmaker Georgette de la Plante; georgette is a sheer, dull-finished crepe and lightweight fabric. It is made with highly twisted yarns even though originally it was made from silk.

All we can say is, “WOW!” The entire Cushnie et Ochs Fall 2018 runway show was a tantalizing affair; however, the closing look stole the attention of everyone in attendance. The vibe, the details, the unspoken allure. Every element just works and brings a certain je ne sais quoi to a collection that is already flawless.

Hereith Paul, you are a lucky girl! Paul is the gorgeous model that had the honor and pleasure, of wearing the final closing Cushnie et Ochs look. The dress is a showstopper… Glitzy, spell-binding and more gleam than the night sky on a clear night.

Photographs of this garment did not even come close to doing it justice. The gown gets its bling appeal thanks to a little help from Swarowski. This dress in particular incorporates dazzling, strategically placed Swarowski Drop Crystals.

The crystalized look is currently a favorite among designers for the fall 2018 season. We spotted the trend at not just Cushnie et Ochs, but during a number of other fall runway shows. We noted Swarowski elements and jewelry were utilized during collections for: Alexander Wang, Brandon Maxwell, Jason Wu and Rosie Assoulin.

Nevertheless, we foresee the Cushnie et Ochs Faceted Crystal Mesh Gown being a red carpet favorite. Hansel and Gretel eat your heart out! When it comes to fashion week no one quite does it like fashion house, Chanel. From the spell-binding couture to the equally visually pleasing venues, the luxury fashion label knows how to leave its fashion show attendees aching for more! For the Chanel Winter 2018 -2019 collection, Karl Lagerfeld enchanted his audience with luxe woven garments set against a forest backdrop.

Why is this show in particular making waves throughout the industry? Well, during fashion week you expect at least three things. A catwalk, glorious designs and a magnificent show. Chanel did all three with stylish hands tied in back.

In answering the long held question what would you take with you if you were stranded in a desert or forest; Chanel’s winter show made the answer abundantly clear… any of their fashions! Chanel’s dazzling designs cast their spell with a color palette that lines up perfectly with the fall and winter seasons. We observe stylish tops, skirts, jackets and accessories all peppered with tones reminiscent of the changing of the leaves’ colors during autumn.

The colors are warm yet sharp. Defined yet welcoming. Your eye is drawn in immediately but is able to take in every look’s detail in it’s entirety.

Chanel Winter 2018 Fashion Show

Your outfit may be the cake, but a proper handbag is the cherry on top! Chanel’s Winter 2018 handbags are trendy with an original edge. There are big bags, small bags, crossovers and of course, totes.

One element we love is the matchy-matchy look. Several handbags were twinning with their accompanying ensembles. Literally, tweed met tweed and hues met the exact same color(s). Whatever fabric was used to craft a couture design that same high end material was used for the look’s very own handbag.

This is great for the person who enjoys a perfect match. Or for someone who may struggle with pairing accessories with their clothing. Either way, Chanel has things covered.

One other detail that is certainly worth mentioning before moving on is Chanel’s use of the double bag. Have you ever needed two bags just to carry your essentials for the day? Well, Chanel wants you to know you are not alone. During the fall/winter runway show a model hit the catwalk with not one bag, but two swinging from her shoulder.

One smaller shoulder handbag layered over a larger tote made up the completed look. While carrying two bags may not become the next big thing. It is fun to see a neat way on how to make this style dilemma work in the best way.

Chanel Winter 2018 Fashion Show – Accessories

Hair was kept simple but was embellished with luxe, crystallized hair accessories. Other outfit additions we noticed included scarves, leggings/tights, chain belts as well as logo/name earrings and necklaces. Moreover, with the earrings we noticed Chanel indulged in the super hot uneven earrings trend. To rock it all you have to do is wear two different size earrings. They match but one is always super longer than the other. Thus making the finished result stylish, yet dramatic.

Furthermore, gleaming details were not just noticed in the accessories. Various boots, tights and pants all had shimmery elements. Proving that winter fashion does not need to be drab like the season’s weather. You can easily spice things up by utilizing sparkle.

Lastly, one other piece we loved was the fingerless gloves! Very Material Girl meets punk. The fun gloves came in different lengths; both regular hand glove size as well as elbow length. Certainly, a design that easily garners attention without trying too hard.

Another icon is gone. Fashion visionary, Vale Hubert de Givenchy noted for dressing some of the world’s most famous women; passed away at age 91. Hubert’s designs were widely celebrated for not only their sophistication, but divine elegance.

The French luxury couture designer was born in 1927. In future years, the couturier would come to redefine the modern woman’s form of attire. Givenchy often referred to himself as “the eternal apprentice.” However, his masterful creations since the start of his fashion house in 1952; clearly demonstrated his true skill, talents and pure genius.

Furthermore, Givenchy truly understood the female form. His luxe and dazzling frocks always fit a woman’s body in the most desirable as well as alluring way. His motto? Hubert once said, “The dress must follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress.”

This understanding led to Givenchy being highly sought after by the Hollywood elite. As a result, Hubert dressed some of the most influential women of the 20th century. Ladies of Givenchy included Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy and Grace Kelly. Men too experienced the Givenchy treatment, such as the legendary David Bowie.

Hepburn who wore Givenchy couture in some of her biggest roles is quoted as stating, “His clothes are the only clothes in which I am completely myself. He is far more than a couturier, he is a creator of personality… I’m as dependent on Givenchy as some Americans are on their psychiatrist.” Her sentiments sum up what numerous starlets, models and women around the world have felt in Hubert’s pieces.

To this day, women around the world keep a LBD in their wardrobes. The LBD, or Little Black Dress is a classic, iconic garment that never goes out of style. Seasons come and go. Trends see the light of day then quickly vanish, but the little black dress continues to command the spotlight.

Who of us can forget actress, Audrey Hepburn’s black dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s? The actress also can be seen in Givenchy designs in her films Sabrina and Funny Face. Moreover, in 1954 Audrey put down Hubert in her contracts as the designer who would design all of her film costumes. Ultimately, the move that sealed designer and muse as lifelong friends and workmates.

Even though Hubert de Givenchy made the LBD (little black dress) look so easy to pull off, he made it starkly clear it is not. In regards to the look Givenchy states, “The little black dress is the thing to realize, because you have to keep it simple.” Listen to him fashion lovers, less can be oh so more.

Besides his beautiful gowns Hubert also changed how the fashion world viewed separates. A blouse, jacket, skirt, or trouser could produce a plethora of stylish combinations. Limitless outfit choices instead of one. His concept of mixing and matching separates truly revolutionized the industry.

The Givenchy fashion house reached out to fans and admirers via social media in order to release a statement pertaining to Hubert de Givenchy. The label says,

“The House of Givenchy is sad to report the passing of its founder Hubert de Givenchy. A major personality of the world of French Haute Couture and a gentleman who symbolized Parisian chic and elegance for more than half a century. His enduring influence and his approach to style reverberates to this day. He will be greatly missed.”

Hello Readers,

Like you, I am also deeply saddened by this unfortunate news regarding the great Hubert de Givenchy. Growing up, his designs were one of the first to make me want to shed my Tomboy ways and hop into a black dress!

I also remember fondly talking about the glamorous old Hollywood with my grandmother. Not just the bright lights, triple threat talent or fascinating productions; but the fashion! The undeniable breath-taking couture that was chic, high-end, mesmerizing yet sexy all in one.

It was my grandmother as well as my mother that exposed me to a few classic films that left me wishing I was old enough to have a credit card. Since if I had had one, a lot of the available funds would of went to Givenchy couture. Therefore, maybe it was a good idea that could not qualify (LOL).

Being a fan of the fashion house, I was moved to write this feature. Not just to tell the impact that Givenchy had on me, but the impact He and his label left on the world. Truly an industry leader that will be missed. Below you will find a complilation of a few of my favorite Givenchy moments of all time. New York Fashion Week continues to plop us into a time machine and transport us to the era that was the 80s. The Marc Jacobs Fall 2018 runway show absolutely brought it. Showstopping pieces and over the top couture that displayed impeccable tailoring and pure opulence.

This fall go big. Marc Jacobs is leading the way to this trend with his latest collection showcasing humongous shoulders, hats and trousers. A nice departure from the normal “less is more” ensembles checkered throughout social media.

Jacobs entire collection is noticeably very modest. No high splits. No cut-outs. Just garments oozing of extravagance and tons of flashy appeal. Throughout the show models strutted down the catwalk in designs that covered them completely from head-to-toe.

The point? If you are not into skin or would enjoy mixing it up; you can still be insanely fashionable without displaying cleavage or legs. Marc Jacobs proves that covering up can still be uber glam and make a strong style statement.

With that kind of work load sometimes the best one can do is throw their hair in a pony or topknot and call it a day. As a side note, you might also want to try alligator hair clips!

Alexander pulls from this business aspect and translates it into a smooth, sophisticated hairstyle. The model’s in the runway show tresses were pulled back with the front kept super slick. After that the now signature silver AW clip was added into the hair mix.
