HOLD UP… Serena Williams Covers Teen Vogue December 2018 Issue! The magazine hit up social media this morning to announce it by stating, “Our December cover is Serena Williams! [In this issue you can] read her conversation with activist Naomi Wadler and new Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Lindsay Peoples Wagner.”

This cover comes on the heels of the trio (Williams, Wadler and Wagner) getting together for the recent Teen Vogue Summit. An event where hundreds of influencers and young leaders flock to make new friends, challenge new ideas and work to make the world better.

Furthermore, Wagner is continuing to make black girl history; since she has become the latest Editor of color to head a major print/digital publication. Lindsay has only been the Editor-in-Chief of Teen Vogue for a little over a month. However, she looks forward to working hard and bringing continuous amazing content to the table.

Talk about girl power! Two actresses and budding supermodel are showing young girls everywhere that they can be bonafide achievers. Miss Stenberg is very excited about her latest cover with Teen Vogue. Regarding what she says inside the issue, Stenberg mentions,

“I am so honored to grace my second Teen Vogue cover and to be sharing Volume 3 The icons Issue with Kaia Gerber and Millie Bobby Brown. I swear, this sort of stuff still doesn’t feel real to me. And I regularly take moments to sit down, take a deep breath and count my blessings.

I was interviewed for this issue by the epitome of love, light and soul. My sis and friend, Janelle Monae. The cover quote was inspired by our conversation, in which Janelle said to me, ‘One of my mantras is ‘Embrace what makes you unique even if it makes others uncomfortable.’

I keep that with me in my back pocket. Shoot, I keep it in my front pocket! I keep it in my hair. We have to live that.

I told her the reason why I feel like I’m able to embrace myself is because of icons like her. Who carve out spaces that the world says shouldn’t exist. Joyous, creative spaces.

It is so imperative to revel in that joy and creativity at this moment. Even if it is difficult and seems at odds with the state of the world.”

As many television shows have helped to emphasize is that a model has to have that special something or Je Ne Sais Quoi that electrifies them off the pages of editorials, runways as well as ad campaigns. Teen Vogue is diving into this industry and giving attention to those believed to be rising new faces.

It wasn’t that long ago where black models were barely seen or utilized regularly as muse’s of top designers. So then, it is very exciting to see three black models receive a nod of approval and highlighted as the new “It” girls on the block. Models Aya Jones, Imaan Hammam and Lineisy Montero are all featured in the August issue.
