They’re beautiful, hard-working and also simply want the best treatment for all. ELLE magazine shares why they are honoring this cool set of Hollywood elite by saying,
“To say there’s been a paradigm shift in the entertainment industry in the past year would be an understatement. And no one has faced its brave new landscape more head on than our eleven honorees for 2018. – the twenty-fifth anniversary of Women in Hollywood.
To start, Lady Gaga, the ever-outspoken singer-turned-actress currently selling out theatres in A Star Is Born. [Also] Yara Shahidi, who at 18 is a leading voice for social justice; and the powerful writer/producer Shonda Rhimes; who recently signed a multimillion-dollar megadeal with Netflix.
[There has been] gradual progress made in the… movement to get more female story-tellers behind and in-front of the camera. This theme emerges again and again in our November issue, from our Black Panther cast spotlight featuring Lupita Nyong’o– who went from penning a powerful New York Times op-ed about a disturbing encounter with Harvey Winston; to storming the box office alongside fellow Wakanda women of Black Panther Angela Bassett, and Danai Gurira.”

Oftentimes, many only think of “adult” opinions on the situation that Hollywood is currently in. However, ELLE mag also shares what Blackish’s Yara Shahidi is experiencing. They reveal,
“For Yara Shahidi, this is what it means to be a woman in Hollywood in 2018:
‘There’s an intentional knowledge disparity in any industry. Which is tied to the maintaining of power. [Moreover] I love the fact that this community of women is disintegrating that.
I’ve been able to reap the benefits of it; and I’m also fortunate to have my parents with me, guiding me. This is a hobby, so I haven’t had to do this as something that my family and I depend on. Which has helped alleviate pressures that many actors feel.”
