Naomi Campbell, Iman, Tyra Banks, Beverly Johnson, Donayale Luna, Jasmine Tookes and Jourdan Dunn. All black supermodels who have help push open the door wider in the fashion industry in order to allow for more diversity. Now name twenty black designers. Sadly that is a little harder to do for most and only goes to prove there is still more work to do within the fashion realm. Nevertheless, fashion label Saints by SJ is working hard to change the style game, yet again.
Saints by SJ, Black Girls Killing the Fashion Industry
So then, who is this new fashion brand that is taking the industry by storm? Sisters Natacha and Anise Saint-Juste, make up the fashion design-duo behind SAINTS by S.J. The Haitian born designers know all about honing one’s craft as well as “keeping it in the family.”
Their father was a tailor who passed on his plethora of skills, thus teaching his girls the art of fashion construction. Garnering such experience served these talented ladies well. Apprenticeship under the watchful eye of their father allowed Natacha and Anise to gain the same level of couture aptitude as any student attending a school for fashion design.
This education gave the girls much confidence to take on the beast known as the fashion industry. They recently showcased their Saints by SJ Spring/Summer 2017 collection which oozed of sophistication as well as romanticism. The sisters are a fresh breath of style air that are plowing the road and movement of more black girls making waves in fashion. The diversity tide is certainly turning and thanks to designers such as Saints by SJ it is having one powerful effect!
