This month Winnie Harlow joins the likes of Beyoncé, Naomi Campbell, Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o on the biggest issue of the year for any magazine entity. Marie Claire as well as Harlow shared their thoughts on the history making cover. They state:

“Marie Claire Brazil thank you thank you thank you! September issue! It’s so crazy posting this right after a baby pic; because I’m sure Baby Winnie could’ve never dreamt of being on magazine covers. I was so ill during this shoot, but thank you to my entire team for making me feel comfortable; and keeping me going through the day! Life stops for no one! Endlessly grateful.”

“Exclusive! Winnie Harlow premieres on the cover of a Brazilian Magazine – and [it] could only be in Marie Claire! [The] first top [model] with vitiligo making campaigns for luxury brands. More history is being made! Lais Ribeiro Covers Marie Claire Brazil June 2018 issue; and becomes the first black top model to do so! The journal is very excited over their new work. So much that they have immediately hit up social media to discuss it. The magazine writes,

So what all is Lais talking about in this edition? She bares everything. From her early beginnings to having to fight for her spot in the fashion and beauty industries as a top model. Marie Claire Brazil EIC (Editor in Chief) explains further stating,

“Our beautiful cover [for] June with Lais Ribeiro, rehearsal and interview [conducted] in NYC (New York City) by two editors, Larissa Lucchese and Camila Lima. For us, Lais shows a powerful woman, a woman poor since childhood in Piaui; faced an early maternity, [also] harassment of famous photographer; racism and child autism. She tells all of this exclusively in this edition. To the newsstands!

[Thanks] of course, to Lais, our first black top model, which shows that fighting against racism and harassment does not imply loss of professional space; indeed, on the contrary. Very happy to have noticed the fact I never had it on our cover before.”
