Make Your Summer Barbecues a Little Bit Healthier

Make Your Summer Barbecues a Little Bit Healthier

Barbecues are fun and usually have a lot of rich and fatty foods. You can make your barbecue healthier and still have fun with lots of great food.

If you’re going to have a creamy dip, use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. If you are a guacamole lover, cut down on the fat from the avocado by mixing in another vegetable. A good add-in would be frozen peas, they keep the guacamole green while adding a little sweetness.

Trick your friends into eating their vegetables. You can replace the chips and dips with beautifully cut crudités. Try seasoning the raw vegetables with lime, salt and chili powder.  They look good, taste good and are perfectly healthy.

Salads are great but the lettuce tends to wilt so try making something like a Greek salad that doesn’t require lettuce and will hold up for the duration of a long barbecue. Also, use less cheese in the salad to cut down on the calories. Put the salad at the front of the serving table as your friends are more likely to put some on their plates. Plus it leaves less room for unhealthy options.
