The 2018 Black Girls Rock was a night of comradery, girl power and eye-popping fashion! From supermodels to music icons every single lady brought their style A-game as well as beneficial words of wisdom for girls of color the world over.

Honorees for this year include: Janet Jackson, Naomi Campbell, Lena Waithe, Mary J. Blige, Tarana J. Burke and Judith Jamison. Hosting duties for 2018 fell upon the one and only Queen Latifah who absolutely killed it; despite coming right off the heels of a major concert at the prestigious Hollywood Bowl with hip hop artist, Common.

Rihanna has been slaying from the music charts to the red carpet. In music, Rih’s Work single has stood atop of Billboard for an impressive six weeks! On top of that, it seems like fans cannot get enough of hearing Rihanna or seeing her. Youtube announced that Rihanna has just become the first female ever to have 20 million subscribers. All of these impressive records clearly indicate that Rihanna is killing the game. To honor and recognize the huge successes of the mega songstress, Black Girls Rock 2016 is presenting our favorite badgal, Rihanna, with the Rock Star Award.

For the one of the year’s biggest events celebrating the achievements of black girls, Rihanna dazzled in Miu Miu Fall 2016. Her hair was super glamorous with shiny, sleek tresses and a deep off-center part. Hair was effortlessly pulled back behind her ears. To add more drama, pearl and jewel encrusted hair accessories accompanied her hair look.

For a ensemble to be successful, overall harmony must exist. If pieces compete or clash, an outfit’s appeal can begin to diminish. We love how the hair accessories worn by Rihanna for Black Girls Rock 2016 matched the rest of her pieces including her clutch, rings as well as shoes. Yesterday, the 3rd Annual Black Girls Rock! hit the television waves hosted by Regina King and Tracee Ellis Ross. Black Girls Rock! Inc. is an non-profit youth empowerment and mentoring organization which promotes the healthy development of young black women and girls. The organization aims to,

“To build the self-esteem and self-worth of young women of color by changing their outlook on life, broadening their horizons, and helping them to empower themselves.”

As Whitney Houston once sang, children are the future and with such encouragement they are sure to shine brightly. There has been much hoopla regarding the beauty of black hair, so we have decided to highlight why black hair rocks!
