TV One Triumph Awards Fashion Color Trend: Jet Black

TV One Triumph Awards Fashion Color Trend Jet Black9

Black Hollywood as well as other influential black entertainers came out to support the 2015 Triumph Awards which were hosted by funny lady, Tichina Arnold. The star-studded show aired just last night (October 3rd) with appearances by Tyrese Gibson, T.I., Soledad O’Brien, John Legend, and Wanda Sykes. The Triumph Awards were created in order to recognize the positive effect and impact individuals of color are having on the community. Among this year’s honorees were: Chief Diversity Officer and Global Director of Education and External Relations for Intel Rosalind Hudnell, Wanda Sykes, Tyrese Gibson, John Legend as well as civil rights leader Reverend Dr. Joseph Echols Lowery.

There were many reasons to feel proud last night after taking in such an empowering show. As the saying goes, ‘Teamwork makes the dream work,’ so working unitedly towards a positive end will accomplish the most good. Speaking of good, what other wonderful sights were able to be seen?

We could not help but take note of all the glam that went down including one trend in particular. It seemed that as if everyone got the same memo before the show…that black was the color to wear! Enjoy the red carpet fashion highlights and congratulations to all of this year’s impactful honorees.

Ankle Boots: Make Your Feet Happy With These 63 Designs

Finding ankle boots that you truly love at prices you can actually afford is not always a simple task.

But, if you spend a bit of time learning some valuable tricks to finding hot styles at great price points, you will be justly rewarded.

For instance, if you have bad feet, you should think about buying ankle boots that have an all leather bottom since they help protect your feet from damage. They cost a bit more than other boots, but that is far less than you will end up paying for regular visits to a podiatrist!

You can find great deals for women’s ankle boots online.

There are many online retailers that are competing for your business. When shopping online, make sure that you check several coupon websites to see if you can find a coupon code for a percentage off or free shipping and handling to maximize your savings.

Prior to purchasing any booties, get them on your feet and walk around. You might only notice discomfort after your purchase if you do not walk in it before buying it. You may need to switch sizes a few times before finding one that fits just right.

Although it’s great to be stylish, avoid buying shoes that are trendy, but don’t really accentuate your body. For example, if you have short legs, wearing ankle boots will make them look even shorter. Wedges and platform heels are still trendy, but wearing them will enhance the look of your legs.

Fashion Psychologist Dawnn Karen Attends Harlem Derby

Fashion Psychologist Dawnn Karen is a Columbia University graduate, the founder of the fashion psychology field and a Professor at The Fashion Institute of Technology. She attended the Harlem Derby this past Saturday as a Celebrity Judge. She judged the best hat and best dressed.
Churchhill Downs Comes to Harlem. The Derby is not just about horse racing, it’s about the magic that makes the first Saturday of May unique in Sports, Fashion & Style.
How did this event come to happen?
Three years ago, St. Croix native Kevin Krigger was the first black jockey to ride in the Kentucky Derby race in 12 years. In honor of the return of a black jockey to the derby, Lenox Avenue restaurant Settepani held a Harlem Kentucky Derby Party in true Southern style.
Kentucky Derby comes to Harlem Derby
“Historically, there have been many African-American jockeys, and their contributions have never really been recognized,” said Leah Abraham, the restaurant’s owner and one of the event organizers. “We wanted to do something honoring them.”

When the first Kentucky Derby was raced in 1875, 13 out of the 15 jockeys riding that day were black. Over the next 28 years, more than half of the derby’s winning jockeys were black. But there have been fewer African-American riders since the earlier part of last century.

As mentioned, the Third Annual Harlem Derby Gala was held at Ristorante Settepani. There Dawnn Karen deliberated with celebrity Judge Musa Jackson (Screen Writer, Producer, Special Events Coordinator) and Judge Sharon Rainey (Deputy Director Communications and Advocacy of AMREF Health Africa).

Women wore simple outfits, so as not to detract attention from their fascinator hats while drinking mint juleps. Men wore simple hats. No way they were going to detract from their suits as well!

The paparazzi and jazz musicians made for a festive event as the who’s who of Harlem made their red carpet entrance.

About the Author

Barbara Summers is the editor of the bestseller I Dream A World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America and author of a collection of short stories, Nouvelle Soul, and the novel The Price You Pay. Her own story as a model is one of many told in Black and Beautiful.

My wonderful, hard-working father used to call me Daughter #2. He and my mother had 4 girls before their one and only son arrived. We girls were born in Springfield, Mass. When the family moved to Hartford, Conn. my parents literally built our house. My beautiful mother – a Hunter College graduate – mixed the mortar, and my father – a Morehouse man – laid the bricks. Their passionate, productive partnership laid the foundation for my concept of how women and men should – and could – live together.

I went to the University of Pennsylvania, Yale, and the Sorbonne, where I promptly became a grad school dropout and a lifelong Francophile. In the surprising adventure that is my life, I have been a Ford fashion model, a world traveler, a teacher, a writer and editor, a lover, wife, and mother, a sister to several, a good friend to many. I define myself as an artist. Artists are charged with the special responsibility not just to speak truth but to sing it.

I believe:
*We are all related – literally.
*While politicians, terrorists, and maniacs of power strive mightily to prove otherwise, war is not the answer. Love is.
*Sing, and if you can’t sing, hum.
