Here at 1966 we love a great feel good story as much as the next person. Hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar is making headlines for his mission to Pay It Forward to a generation of inner city children in order to help them flourish due to well-meaning guidance. Lamar has never forgotten his roots and what has empowered as well as spurred him to greatness. His passion led to this feature: Kendrick Lamar Goes to White House to Talk to President Obama.

Lamar recalls that if it were not for the dedication and mentorship received from others he would not be in the position he is in currently. Kendrick does not just spit some of the realest lyrics ever heard, but he also lives by them. For this reason Lamar took his ambition to the White House to speak with President Barack Obama in regards to numerous issues plaguing inner cities and any solutions.

The White House visit is apart of a video that showcases the Pay It Forward program. In the video Kendrick remarks,

“I look at where I’m at today and realize that most of my success is owed to the mentors that was in my life. I sat down with President Barack Obama and shared the same views. Topics concerning the inner cities, the problems, the solutions, and furthermore embracing the youth, both being aware that mentoring saves lives.”

White House representatives spoke about the visit between Obama and Kendrick stating the president described Lamar as being ‘a very fine young man.’ Besides personality Obama is also on record for mentioning that his favorite song of 2015 was Kendrick’s hit “How Much a Dollar Cost.” With that being said most likely this will not be a visit that our president or Kendrick soon forgets. Nevertheless, we wish Kendrick Lamar the best with his Pay It Forward program and are confident of its success.
