Last night, NBC’s viewer audience was treated to a live production of The Wiz. The broadcast was a three hour event that boasted 11.5 million viewers giving NBC its best Thursday night rating in two years which poetically came from another live production, The Sound of Music Live. If you missed out on the broadcast take heart, an encore presentation will be aired on December 19th.
Nevertheless, if you have been enjoying these yearly live Broadway shows then you may want to look forward to January 31st when FOX network takes a stab at it. FOX’s Grease Live comes out right on the heels of The Wiz, just a little over a month apart, air date wise. Grease Live will star Broadway’s first black Cinderella, Keke Palmer!
We are huge nerds for anything Keke Palmer related so we are already geeking out about her role in Grease. Palmer will take on the character of sassy Marty Maraschino who was a Pink Lady member. Keke will play alongside Vanessa Hudgens and Julianne Hough, two actresses who are also very familiar with acting in a musical environment. Broadway writers Jonathan Tolins and Robert Cary have been tapped in order to write the Grease Live adaptation.
