Beyonce, Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Garner are among the female role models who are fronting a campaign to ban the word “bossy” from being used to describe women.
The Ban Bossy campaign, run by the Girl Scouts and the organization Lean In, aims to promote leadership roles among women and raise young girls’ self-esteem. The average girl’s self-esteem drops 3.5 times more than boys’ between elementary and high school, an issue the campaign aims to dispel.
Influential females, including Glee star Jane Lynch and American diplomat Condoleezza Rice, want to change the culture around leadership and discourage the use of a word, which they believe stops girls from expressing themselves.
Repeat after me: “I’m not bossy, I’m the boss.”
