Missy Elliott Trash Bag… We Mean Suit! Elliott FINALLY Speaks On It

Missy Elliott Trash Bag

FUN FACT: Go to Google and start typing ” Missy Elliott Trash Bag ” in the search; and you are going to come across a FLURRY of images of Missy in one of her most iconic looks. Seriously, try it (Lol).

You won’t even be able to finish typing it in before it pops up. Which means, there are a lot of beings out there who grew up; or still believe Missy got down in her music video for her single, The Rain, in a Hefty trash bag. But, did she?

Sorry the y’all, the myth is over. Like officially, officially over. For years, Elliott has done her best to let the people know the truth. However, the trash bag theory has always been able to live on.

Nevertheless, on Twitter a fan piped up about the “trash bag” fit and Missy actually answered! This is what occurred between the two:

Fan Tweet: “22 years later and I still don’t know why she was in a black trash bag but the song is still fire.”

Missy Elliott Tweet: “Lol it was never a trash bag it was a patent leather blow up suit [winking emoji]. And why was I in that? I don’t know [laughing emojis] cuz I’m Missy.”

Yes, Missy has always had a style all her own. An aspect of her career that still sets her apart from all other Emcees. Nonetheless, don’t let her coy response on Twitter fool you. Back in the day when Elliott dropped The Rain video; there was a very good reason why she wore the blow up suit.

In 2017, Missy hit up ELLE magazine about it in an exclusive interview. In regards to her black bodysuit style she told ELLE,

“To me, the outfit was a way to mask my shyness behind all the chaos of the look. Although I am shy, I was never afraid to be a provocative woman. The outfit was a symbol of power.

I loved the idea of feeling like a hip hop Michelin woman. I knew I could have on a blow up suit and still have people talking. It was bold and different. I’ve always seen myself as an innovator and a creative unlike any other.”

Till this day, Missy still is able to get people talking about her and her music. A testament to her sound and vibe being classic and timeless in every sense. Right now, Marie Claire is paying homage to Missy’s career as she covers this August issue. Inside Elliott talks about longevity and the real ups and downs of the music industry when you are in the spotlight.

Made props to Missy for leading the way and pack for females in the hip hop realm; and for speaking out on a look; that is truly one of BIGGEST and BADDEST fashion statements in music video history!

So what all is Lais talking about in this edition? She bares everything. From her early beginnings to having to fight for her spot in the fashion and beauty industries as a top model. Marie Claire Brazil EIC (Editor in Chief) explains further stating,

“Our beautiful cover [for] June with Lais Ribeiro, rehearsal and interview [conducted] in NYC (New York City) by two editors, Larissa Lucchese and Camila Lima. For us, Lais shows a powerful woman, a woman poor since childhood in Piaui; faced an early maternity, [also] harassment of famous photographer; racism and child autism. She tells all of this exclusively in this edition. To the newsstands!

[Thanks] of course, to Lais, our first black top model, which shows that fighting against racism and harassment does not imply loss of professional space; indeed, on the contrary. Very happy to have noticed the fact I never had it on our cover before.”

For the 2017 October edition Henson had a vivid discussion with Janet Mock. What did the two talk about? Taraji laid it all down when it comes to love and relationships, haterade as well as being an iconic role model for young women. Here are a few quotes from her in-depth interview:

“I love black people; I love telling stories. Also I want young girls to study me like I studied Meryl and Bette Davis and Carol Burnett. [Furthemore] I want them to study my work, because I put a lot of work in. A lot of blood, sweat and tears

How can we get ahead if we’re feuding and hating on each other all the time? I made a pact years ago that I would never hate on another female, ever, especially in this industry.

I would love to be in a relationship. [However] he has to see how I move and deal with it, because I don’t have time to explain. I’ve got work to do.”

Lupita Nyong’o & Aja Naomi King Attend Marie Claire Image Maker Awards

Lupita Nyong'o and Aja Naomi King Attend Marie Claire Image Maker Awards

It is about time for the creation of the Image Maker Awards! As they say, behind every glamorous Hollywood star is a rockstar team of people. It takes a village to take a celeb from resting face to red carpet queen. With this in mind Marie Claire is honoring the hardworking Image Makers who beat faces, slay fashions, fleek hair and have us living to look like our favorite shining stars.

Last night, Marie Claire embarked upon their first ever Image Maker Awards which was held in swanky Beverly Hills, California at the Chateau Marmont. Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o as well as How to Catch a Murderer actress Aja Naomi King were both in attendance for the festivities. The ladies looked stunningly gorgeous in their bold tinted frocks.

Chanel Iman For Marie Claire UK May 2015

Chanel Iman is the cover girl for the Marie Claire Fashion UK May 2015 edition. In the fabulous editorial Iman models fashions by: Michael Kors, Chloe, Emporio Armani and Roberto Cavalli. Chanel seems to channel a modern Roman gladiator as she plays on a track field as well as on and below bleachers. If she really was competing, with the couture she showcases she would definitely be a winner in our book!

Hair Notes: We are seeing long braids in several editorials this year and we are loving them! Last year, skinny and down-to-there french braids were all the rage. Nevertheless, it seems that braids with a middle part is the new hot hairstyle of the year. Moreover, this hair look is a great protective hairstyle to grow hair and keep it strong.

First Look: Zoe Kravitz Covers Marie Claire

First Look Zoe Kravitz Covers Marie Claire

Zoe Kravitz is Marie Claire’s newest covergirl and on the cover as well as inside the May 2015 issue Zoe flexes some style muscle. For the cover she wears a moto jacket from the Pre-Fall 2015 Christopher Kane collection. Another shot we loved shows Kravitz in a cute knit sweater dress with snake skin boots. Nevertheless, Zoe also revealed a little insight into her own style preferences:

“I’ve been trying the art of dressing up sweatpants. I feel like an NYU student. Not in a good way. But if you wear them with, like, a chunky boot, it’s kind of cool.”
