We wanted Halle to reprise her role as Storm in Black Panther 2; but honestly, this is the next BEST thing. Oscar winner, Halle Berry Stars in Moonfall, a new action thriller film by the great Roland Emmerich! Yes, the man, the myth and legend behind such movies as: Independence Day (hey Will Smith); The Day After Tomorrow, The Patriot, Stargate, Midway and Godzilla (1998- yes the one with Diddy’s song Come With Me) just to name a few.

Now Emmerich has turned his attention towards a new adventure. Something he is all too familiar with… space and the ultimate as well as demise of all life on earth. Where do we sign?

Emmerich is making Moonfall along with movie studio, Lionsgate. The premise? We’re doomed (LOL). The Moon has always been our friend who lights up the night sky UNTIL… BOOM!! A mysterious force knocks it off it’s normal orbit sending it hurtling towards the earth!

Is this it? Can anything prevent this collision? With just literally weeks before the moon slams straight into our precious little world. A seemingly impossible mission is launched, catapulting a ragtag team into space to leave all that they love behind. They must risk EVERYHING and find a way to land on the moon in order to save our planet from annihilation before it is too late.

 

 

Dire? Oh yeah. Impossible, well you will just have to watch the movie to find out. Nevertheless, how does Halle Berry come into all of this? Well, word on the entertainments streets is that Berry’s character is an astronaut turned NASA administrator whose previous mission holds a clue to the castastrophe. So the plot thickens.

 

 

Halle is so far set to star opposite actor, Josh Gad. Gad is a scientist who first discovers that something is majorly off with the moon’s course. Thus, making him one of the very important people on the earth during the film.

When Can Moonfall Be Expected?

 

 

Believe it or not, Moonfall has actually been in development for years. Say what?! Yep… try four years to be exact. Development began back in 2016; however, Emmerich’s commitments to Midway (the war movie that reached number one in the U.S. box office); helped put Moonfall on the “backlot” back burner.

 

 

Nevertheless, all of that is about to change. Emmerich can now turn his full attention  and expertise to Moonfall. Therefore, that just leaves the question, when will production begin? Well, given the pandemic things are still a little sketchy. Quarantine and stay home orders will need to be lifted first. As a result, the goal for now is for production to begin this fall.

Why should you try kickboxing? Well, in her usual weekly health post Halle explains,

“It’s Fitness Friday… Yay! And today I’m channeling [actor] Michael B. Jordan and my inner Creed. Nothing says warrior more than self defense; and boxing can empower the true warrior in all of us.

It’s also a high cardio workout that will definitely get your heart pumping! Today, we’ll be showing 4 entry level boxing and kickboxing moves that should give you the same everyday oomph it gives me.”

Therefore, is your fitness goal to become stronger, tone, gain energy and shed pounds? Well, then this is the workout for you! Let’s get to those 4 moves that Halle mentioned.

Here it is, a kickboxing workout for beginners! Check and study the photos and read the accompanying descriptions. Each description will also detail how long or how many reps to do of each move. Work up to performing the entire routine/circuit 5X through.

Jab, Cross:

Hips facing forward, feet front and back, elbows in, chin towards chest. Turn punches in horonzontally at full extension then retract back to starting boxing posture. Repeat continuously for 60 seconds.

Left & Right Hook:

(Left) – Point your right knee towards your left knee by pivoting, remember to stay low and “sit down on the punch;” unwind your body and  throw a horizontal left hook with your palm facing you. Don’t swing just your arm, use your entire body as one unit. Remember, it all starts in the legs. Complete 20 reps on each arm. (Opposite instructions for Right Hook).

Uppercut:

(Right) Point your left knee to your right knee, dip low and keep your hands up by your eyebrows, while pivoting towards the right; bring your right uppercut in front of you, just below chin level. That’s the target zone. Remember, palm also faces towards you on this particular punch. Complete 20 reps. (Opposite instructions for Left Uppercut).

Push Kick:

Bring either your Left or Right knee towards your chest, chamber the knee for a split second; lean back slightly and launch your kick out by extending it in front of you. Aim with the ball of your foot or entire bottom of your foot. (Imagine kicking down a door off its hinges). Complete 20 reps on each leg.

So then, did you notice anything about the above women? You know, other than they all have amazing bodies that would even look fabulous in a paper sack? Hopefully you took note that they all are still THIN and are very TONED thanks to LIFTING.

Yes, lifting isn’t an enemy. In fact, it can not only help you lose weight, but keep it off. Muscle burns fat. Time and time again science has proven that when you exercise you are using your muscle groups.

The more you use them the more opportunity to build muscle mass. The resulting muscle tissue will burn more calories, even when you are at rest! According to some research and studies, even 10 pounds of muscle would burn an additional 50 calories in a day spent at rest.

While on the contrast, 10 pounds of fat would burn only 20 calories. That is over 50% less of a calorie burn. So then, which would you rather work to have more fat or more muscle?

Here is where working hard to gain more lean muscle comes into play. If you are able to maintain your muscle mass you will most likely find yourself in the group of people who keep from gaining weight as they get older. However, to maintain your muscle mass you will need to strength train. There is no way or shortcut around it; AND doing only cardio will not do it for you either.

Nevertheless, knowing all of that is wonderful, but if you do not do it out of fear of becoming “bulky” you will do yourself a major disservice. Oftentimes, the bulkiness look occurs when one is eating way too much while lifting weights. A lot of guys do this method in order to look “bigger.” However, it really boils down to one having excess body fat. While a calorie deficit will help you lose excess, when strength training you should never go below a 25% calorie deficit; or you may jeopardize your training from not being able to sustain your diet/workout routine.

If you are someone trying to be leaner the goal should be to add muscle without excess size. This can be achieved by stopping one or two reps before failure. Meaning before you literally cannot do another rep. If you push the muscle past failure and fatiguing you will encourage the muscle to add size. Therefore, your focus should be on gaining more strength while avoiding failure in order to build a more firm as well as dense looking muscle.
