Demi Permanent Hair Color – How to Really Keep Your Hair Healthy!

Demi Permanent Hair Color

Demi Permanent Hair Color or Semi permanent hair color… ladies, that is the question! This hair debate never seems to end; however, one thing is for sure. Regardless, of which method you choose, you most likely want to not only keep your strands healthy; but also maintain if not grow more hair in the process.

Can it be done? Of course it can! Remember healthy hair clings or holds onto any applied hair color the best. So then, if your hair is dry or brittle, the color will most likely fade faster than normal. Yikes!

Demi Permanent Hair Color

In this article we’re getting into the nitty gritty of hair color. We will explore and dive into what can be done to keep your tresses in top notch shape, even while you change up your color like a kid in a candy store.

In order to keep strands extremely healthy  while implementing dyes, you must develop an excellent haircare routine specifically for hair color; and never deviate. For instance, what products do you currently use for your color treated hair? If they are the same ones you were using before you began your hair color journey; those same products may not still be as effective.

That’s why it’s important to use products specifically formulated for color treated hair or focus on heavy deep conditioning treatments. This would include regular hair masks, applying high quality hair oil to lock in moisture and deep conditioning treatments that can sit on the hair for at least 30 minutes before being rinsed out.

Also, if strands seem weak; a break from coloring may be in order. We know playing with the rainbow can be fun; but breakage and losing all your hair is not. So if your hair is not at its strongest, take 2-4 weeks to get them stronger before applying more hair color. This step is also beneficial to do before coloring your hair in general at all.

During this time of much needed hair rest, really condition your strands. This little break will give your tresses time to heal, restructure and fix a lot of damage. As a result, once you do add your color of choice, your hair will be able to man up and handle it effortlessly.

Hair color can take a little more work and effort to maintain. However, the result is healthier tresses that continue to grow. Score.

Nevertheless, what types of hair color products should be utilized? Should you opt for Demi Permanent or perhaps Semi Permanent hair color items?

First of all, ask yourself, am I dealing with light graying; do I want to use no chemicals or perhaps do I need more coverage? If you wish to stay away from having a full head of permanent bleached strands then demi or semi permanent hair color is the way to go.

There’s not as much fuss with these types of dyes because unlike using permanent hair color… they’re not well, permanent. Every wash will cause the color to fade. Till eventually it’s completely gone.

Demi permanent lasts much longer than semi permanent hair color but it does has its drawbacks. You see Demi color can only darken hair and does contain small amounts of peroxide which helps the color to look richer. So then, if you wish to go lighter or want to stay chemical free you may not enjoy the Demi route.

Furthermore, for the above reasons, many opt to use semi permanent because it does not contain chemicals. You’re able to achieve coloring minus harmful elements.

Nonetheless, always remember that the most important part is protecting your hair with the right products before and after processing. If you treat your hair like a treasure, it will look like one. So then, have fun with your hair, it’s your crown and glory! Just keep it well polished with an awesome regimen and you will be good to go.

How Cold Water Helps Your Hair Color

How Cold Water Helps Your Hair Color

If you want your hair color to look salon worthy as well as to last you will want to use as many tricks from your hair arsenal as possible. First, always start with a healthy head of strands. If your tresses are not in a good condition adding chemicals is only going to make matters worse.

How Cold Water Helps Your Hair Color2

The tip we will discuss in this post is going to apply when you have finished applying hair color and allowed it to process. While rinsing your strands it is better to rinse with cold water than a warmer temperature. This is because warm water opens the cuticle which in turn will allow your precious hair color to escape. Moreover, if your strands have been processed with more than one color or tint, rinsing with cooler water will also help to lower and reduce any bleeding.

How cold does the water need to be when performing the rinse? Of course, colder is better, but you do not want to freeze yourself. Go as cold as you can comfortably stand and you will be able to still reap the benefits.

Revisited: How to Remove Hair Dye Stains From Skin

Revisited: How to Remove Hair Dye Stains From Skin

We received a lot of response in regards to a previous post that delved into how to remove dye once it’s come into contact with skin. If you have ever experienced or encountered this situation you already know that it is not any fun. You can rinse yourself silly and the hair dye will remain right where it’s landed.

Last time, we had mentioned that using toothpaste can help to resolve this hair color issue. If you do decide to take the toothpaste route make sure that you are using a non-gel form. Nevertheless, we mentioned that this topic is being revisited, so what new light can be shed on this topic?

Recently, we did a little testing with the baking soda method. We had heard about it through a hair care professional but was still skeptical. Therefore, we decided to do a quick experiment to put our skepticism to rest once and for all.

During our experiment we focused on removing hair color stains that had attached themselves around the hairline as if you had forgot to apply Vaseline in order to stop the dye from running. We combined baking soda and dish detergent and stirred until the two ingredients formed a paste. The paste was then vigorously brushed onto the hair color skin stains using a toothbrush.

What was the results of the baking soda method? The hair color stains were removed proving that this hair fix truly is effective. The skin was left clean appearing as though no stain had been there before. Now we will say that we had to seriously put some elbow into it but the baking soda & dish detergent did their jobs.

The Risks of Dying Your Hair Purple

The Risks of Dying Your Hair Purple

To be honest, when we first saw purple hair popping up we thought it was another cool, hip, punkish trend that would stick for a bit then vanish. However, it seems that more and more ladies are joining in on the purple hair trend. So then, what makes this bold hair shade such a draw for several voguish women?

For thing one, the purple color trend is the for the gal that doesn’t like to take the road that everyone else is rolling on daily. She’s fierce, boisterous and a kick butt risk-taker who takes names and then hands it back once she’s fully done with it. Basically, purple dyed hair is for women that aren’t the mold, they are the creators telling the mold what to do.

The Risks of Dying Your Hair Purple2

So okay, boldness is key to walking into a salon and demanding a pastel tint be applied to your tresses stat. However, is it really that easy to look that fab with a purple strands? As mentioned, this style is for ladies that like to take risks so of course there are some warnings and hair hazards to keep in mind.

Show Me the Benjamins Baby– This hair trend is expensive because after the initial coloring job you will need to go in for touch-ups regularly.

Beach Please– It’s hot as H to the E hockey sticks outside and all you want to do is take a dip. Uhm, how about no, that is if you do not mind losing your hard-earned hair color. One dip could possibly leave your hair color a different shade after the post dip shampoo and conditioning.

The Risks of Dying Your Hair Purple3

It’s Like You’re at the Beauty Counter– Whoa man you may feel like you are tripping out or having deja vu once you begin your journey of dying your hair purple. Finding the right shade of purple to match your skin tone is like searching for the perfect foundation. Trust us, one shade does not fit all.

Warned You Will Be– That’s the best advice Yoda will ever warn you about when dying your hair purple. There is not one professional salon or stylist that will not tell you about the risks of purple hair. For example, for a pastel purple color your hair will most likely need to be dyed platinum blonde first. Think Mary J. Blige then go even blonder…yeah, that could leave a mark.

The Risks of Dying Your Hair Purple5

Alrighty, so let’s say you were able to make it past all the risks and achieve the purple dyed hair of your dreams. Now what do you do besides celebrate with the hair gods? Maintenance dears, it is all about maintenance.

1. Invest in a VERY good conditioner that will help your strands maintain moisture. Dying can suck the moisture out of strands and ultimately have them looking quite lifeless.

2. Don’t you dare but a sulfate infested shampoo on your hair! Sorry for the exclamation point, but just wanted y’all to take us very seriously. When it comes to purple dyed hair aim for a sulfate free shampoo that is specially formulated for color dyed hair.

3. Back to summer activities such as hitting that swimming party that your crush is going to be at. Just make sure you look really cute instead and avoid the swimming pool water at all costs. Chlorinated water can fade hair color, so if you want your purple hair to fade then by all means go for it.

Coloring Your Hair and “The Wait”

Hair Coloring and the Wait

Hair Quickie: If you have just colored or dyed your hair try to wait at least 48 hours or more before washing your strands. This is because every time you wet the hair the cuticle opens and you want to give your hair time to seal in the color. Therefore, if you are planning activities where you know you will need to shampoo your hair it is best not to color your hair right before that time.
