Monica Brown Shutdowns Brandy Beef In True Act of Sisterhood
Since the 90’s one the biggest rivalries in the music industry has been between Brandy and Monica. Both ladies are R&B legends that helped break barriers for young black artists. Heck, Brandy even played the first black Cinderella opposite Whitney Houston on national television. Moreover, Monica who has sold over 25 million records is also the first artist to ever top the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop chart in the 90s, 2000s and 2010s.
With so much success it would seem to be little room for hate. Yet, for years many have tried to pit the two singers against each other. Tenses rose after Brandy appeared on the 2016 Soul Train Awards to perform and accept the Lady of Soul Award.
Many viewers felt shade had been thrown by Brandy due to a few lyric changes. However, Monica was not swayed by rhymes or fans. She took to social to clear things up. She mentioned:
“Love that goes BOTH ways. Its disappointing to leave ICU and come to my page to see the foolishness of the 90s ever so present among BOTH groups. I will forever respect the legend she [Brandy] is and the history we created. All of you guys do the same. She’s a vocal beast and we’re both great in our own right! This is her moment. She earned and deserves it. No mention or “@” of my name needed it.”

Can we please get a round of applause for that statement? It looks as though we are not the only ones who feel this way. Several fans of both artists weighed in saying:
“Monica you are the best!”
“Well said Monica.”
“Good for Monica taking the high road and not letting people hype her up on social media.”
“Very graceful, always classy. I love them both, Brandy congrats.”
“You are so right. I’m glad she shut that down.”
“No need to tear them down let’s build them up no matter what happen we are all imperfect humans. They both need our love, I love them and their music.”
Yes, let’s compliment each other. Let’s always root for one another. Moreover, let us not be afraid to congratulate each other when it comes to individual successes. Black girls and women are accomplishing great things and setting positive trends. Do not allow negativity to reign which will only get in the way of further accomplishments. Instead lets do an Aaliyah to all the haters of women of color. Brush them off, they tried it and failed.
