Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. We’ve heard that saying a million times and as we grow up we come to realize the ugly truth. Bones will break and words can definitely hurt. Ghostbusters starlet Leslie Jones is experiencing this firsthand. Nevertheless, Leslie Jones Twitter account is exposing a serious underlying issue and has sparked an outpouring of love from fans with the hashtag LoveForLeslieJ.
Leslie Jones Twitter
Actress Leslie Jones has been through a whirlwind. From surviving a fashion crisis to achieving box office success. Many had thought the Ghostbusters reboot starring an all female cast would flop. However, girl power won out and the film has proven to be a moneymaker.
Furthermore, right before the premiere Leslie Jones had tweeted out that no designers wanted to dress her. With the biggest premiere of her career on the line what would she do? Well, her tweet did not go unnoticed. Designer Christian Siriano took on Leslie Jones’ fashion nightmare and turned her into the Belle of Ball!
Leslie’s red Christian Siriano gown was an instant hit. Everyone including Instagram’s own page posted about Jones’ triumphant couture outcome. Twitter had truly saved the day. However, ironically the social media platform that had rectified her style issue in days would become a true source of pain. Leslie Jones Twitter page was about to get ugly.
Leslie Jones Twitter- Unkind Comments
Celebrities not only receive accolades through social media they also get some pretty rude comments. Case in point, Jimmy Kimmel has an entire segment devoted to celebs receiving mean tweets. We laugh at the skits but we forget the ones receiving the tweets still have to deal with the aftermath. Regarding this Leslie says,
“I use to wonder why some celebs don’t have Twitter (accounts) now I know. You can’t be nice and communicate with fans cause people crazy.”
Leslie has always aimed to stay in touch with fans, but a few bad apples may have ruined that for everyone. The Leslie Jones Twitter attack wasn’t anything nice.
Compared to An Animal
What year is this? Seeing some of the tweets Leslie retweeted in order to show fans what she was dealing with made our hearts hurt. Some of the cruel tweets she received involved comparing her to a gorilla.
Anyone could see Leslie was hurt. All the woman wants to do is make people laugh and entertain. Yet, she faces being compared to an animal instead. Leslie shared more of her thoughts stating,
“It’s like when you think “ok I’ve proven I’m worthy” then you get hit with a shovel of (hatred)… I’m numb…I’m not stupid to not know racism exists. And I know it will probably live on way after me. But we have to make people take responsibility…for the hate they (spew). We have to stand up to it.”
Leslie Jones Twitter -The Stand Up
As the mean tweets rolled out fans immediately began to speak up and stand up! Tweeters told those making racist comments to go away and called on Twitter to take action. The director of Ghostbusters, Paul Feig, also spoke out stating,
“Leslie Jones is one of the greatest people I know. Any personal attacks against her are attacks against us all.”
