Serena Williams did not lose her groove this week, but she did lose her phone… momentarily. Williams was out having dinner with a friend this week when she noticed a particular man who seemed to be standing awkwardly close to her dining table. It was his extreme closeness that caught Serena’s attention and made her more cautious about protecting her valuables. Williams cell phone was sitting pretty in chair right next to her.
It wasn’t long before this strange man made his true intentions known. Before Serena knew it her phone had been swiped and the man was gone in the darkness of night. Well, that is most likely what the phone thief thought as he was making his getaway. Nevertheless, he didn’t know Serena Williams was a superwoman on and off the court. We will let Williams recount the rest of the story in her own words. She tells us,
“I looked at the chair, then shouted ‘OMG that dude took my phone!” Not thinking I reacted (hence the superwoman photo) I jumped up, weaved my way in and out of the cozy restaurant (leaping over a chair or two) and chased him down. He began to run but I was too fast. (Those sprints came in handy) I was upon him in a flash!
In the most menacing yet calm nonsense voice I could muster I kindly asked him if he ‘accidentally’ took the wrong phone. He stumbled on his words probably not expecting this to happen. While he was thinking of the right thing to say and eventually he said ‘Gosh you know what I did! It was so confusing in there. I must have grabbed the wrong phone.’
Always listen to your superhero inner voice… Just because you are a lady don’t be afraid to step up to any challenge and not be a victim but a hero!”
Now that is one amazing story! We are very happy that Serena Williams retrieved her phone safely and is a true-life superhero. All of us may not be brave enough to chase down a thief but can still work to show bravery in other aspects of our lives. Want that A+ on public speaking, a new job promotion or raise, cute guy’s number or push to start your own business? Go for it and be brave like Serena and be your own superhero achieving all your goals in life!
